Thanks Mr. Green - I’m slightly surprised I was the only one who added a note to my card though...

Shield Elf

3 • Gurthang, Wand of Death Gondor
Possesion - Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Vitality +1
Bearer must be Turin.
Skirmish: Exert Turin to make a minion skirmishing Turin exert twice (limit once per phase).

Not bad - I think it works better as an artifact, and the ability is worded oddly and fairly limited. Other than that, I think this would be a weak 3 cost, but a strong 2 cost card.

SoP

2 Gurthang, Iron of Death Elven
Artifact • Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Bearer must be an Elf. Bearer is damage +1 If bearer is Turin, he gains Intimidation. (During skirmishes involving this character, the opponent may not use skirmish special abilities.)

Good choice of cost and culture. It’s an artifact, so that looks good. However, I don’t think Turin would be able to bear it (as he was a Man), and it’s not unique (although I realize it was probably intended to be).
Other than that, it’s a good card.

-----------------------------------------------------

Celebrimbor

2 •Gurthang, Iron of Death Gondor
Artifact • Hand Weapon
Strength: +2
Resistance: +1
Bearer must Turin. He is damage +1.
Skirmish: Remove from the game 2 minions with strength 8 or less from your discard pile to wound a minion Turin is skirmishing, or to make a minion turin is skirmishing strength -1.
"And though ever black its edges shone with pale fire; and he named it Gurthang, Iron of Death."

Okay, it doesn’t look bad. Good use of a quote, although I find it better when the name of the card isn’t in the quote. The ability is interesting, although also oddly worded. Interesting choice of boosting resistance.
----------------------------------------------------

Dain

3Gurthang, Reforged of the Flaming Star Gondor
Artifact • Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Vitality +1
Resistance -2
Bearer must be a unique Gondor or Elven companion.
If bearer is Túrin or Beleg, he is damage +1.
While bearer is at a battleground, forest, or underground site, each minion skirmishing bearer is strength -1.
“‘Hail Gurthang! No lord or loyalty dost thou know, save the hand that wieldeth thee. From no blood wilt thou shrink.’”

Ah, Dain... Good quote (where I got my subtitle). Cost and culture make sense, and a decreased resistance. Easily transferable is also a good thing on it. Very fitting with the lore - it works for whoever holds it. As long as Turin will be able to bear it, well made.

2 •Gurthang, The Blacksword Elven
Possession • Hand-Weapon
Strength: +2
Bearer must be Turin.
Each time Turin wins a skirmish, discard each minion he was skirmishing.
It was said, that nothing which Gurthang had bitten could live.

Should probably be an artifact, and Hand Weapon should have a space rather than a hypen (but that’s a minor note). I don’t quite see the ability with the text or lore. However, the text and lore fit together very well as well. It might bea bit strong, though.

So, my votes:

1st - Dain
2nd - celebrimbor
3rd - shieldelf

SoP, if it wasn’t limited to an Elf bearer (and so not Turin, as I see it) - it would have made it above shieldelf, and possibly celebrimbor.

macheteman, if it was an artifact and had some sort of drawback, it would probably have made it onto the top 3 (depending on what the drawback is).

1.) Celebrimbor
2.) BattleWarg
3.) macheteman

Really, REALLY tough choice between #1 and #2. Both are EXCELLENT cards, but I just really like the creativity of Celebrimbor’s skirmish ability and felt I had to reward it. I also think BW’s response text could have benefited from a "you may" somewhere in there...the ONLY flaw I see in either card. Well done though. All are to be commended. Applause All of these are great cards...I’m happy to be competing against such competition. Very Happy

Where? The only places I can see would make it either a useless "you may" (’You may remove all threats’) or completely change the card (’You may place Turin in the dead pile.’)

The first would mean that when a character dies, you:
A. Don’t trigger the ability.
B. Remove all threats, put Turin in the dead pile.
or C. Not remove the threats, put Turin in the dead pile. (which would deal damage from the threats when Turin is killed. This wouldn’t quite fit with the idea I was going for.)

The second means you:
A. Don’t trigger the ability.
B. Remove all threats, put Turin in the dead pile.
or C. Remove all threats, choose not to put Turin in the dead pile. (I feel this would make it overpowered, as with one card, which is virtually impossible to stop as an artifact you shut down almost any threat deck.)

Right now you:
A. Don’t trigger the ability.
or B. Remove all threats, put Turin in the dead pile.
Our time here is ending...

What did you want to see before the end?
It will be made in the Request-a-card Set #1 (name ideas also welcome Smile).

OK, since there seems to be no more votes coming in, i will declare BattleWarg the winner of this contest!!! 5gp comin’ your way. (5 awarded so far)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we’re ready to start another contest!!!!

i expect to see a lot of different ideas for this one. the card to make is:

Silmarils. you can do whatever you want for this, you can make it of all three, or of just one. You can make it a shadow card because morgoth stole them, you can make the one Baren cut from morgoth’s crown, you can really do this anyway you want. you can even make the card be of morgoth’s crown, and sub-title the silmarils. it’s all up to you.

again, ANYONE can join, entry fee is 1gp. prize 5gp. cards should be PM-ed to me by next saturday.

Have FUN with this one!!

Contestants:
SoP
Celebrimbor
