Well, in a small break from LotR cards, I thought about making some animorphs cards.
I had tried before, although I had a problem with the morphing ability - I originally had it as conditions that were transferred during the maneuver and returned at the beginning of the regroup phase (sound familiar?). Well, I did notice the similarity, so when I redid it, I decided that morphs would be followers. I added a class to the morph followers, so that you could only have one on each companion, and it can only be transferred to Andalite or Animorph characters.
The Blue Box replaces The One Ring, however it can be transferred easier than The One Ring (only Frodo to Sam) - but it usually brings a penalty with it, and allows burdens on multiple companions. Burdens on the bearer of The Blue Box act as normal, while burdens on other companions only lower their own resistance.
Anyone who wishes to add cards is welcome, although I’d like to keep it mostly serious. The current cultures are Andalite, which will be represented by , Animorphs , and Yeerk - if you want to add another culture as well, feel free too, but try to make sure it has enough and that the representation works decently (for example Crayak = ), and I’ll add it when at least 5 cards of that culture are posted. Lore is always a plus.
I currently have:
2 The Blue Box ( )
10 Andalite ( ) (Free Peoples culture)
28 Animorphs ( ) (Free Peoples culture)
18 Yeerk ( ) (Shadow culture)
3 Sites
•The Blue Box, Andalite’s Gift
While bearer has a morph, each time he would be wounded, add a burden instead.
At the start of each maneuver phase, you may exert bearer to make a companion an Animorph until the regroup phase.
This shows off the basics of The Blue Box. It’s not worn, but adds burdens when its bearer is morphed. It is also the version of Box that gave them their abilities.
•The Blue Box, Morphing Cube
While bearer has a morph, each time he would be wounded, add a burden instead.
Fellowship: Exert bearer to transfer The Blue Box to a companion with Ringed Resistance. Transfer half the burdens from the old bearer to the new bearer.
This is the transferrable Box. It can only be borne by a companion that could have borne it from the start, and the burden transferring allows you to transfer it to lower the number of burdens, but not have virtually unlimited burdens.
Of course, the next key is the morphs themselves:
There are the odd...
Kafit Bird
Follower • Morph
-1 Strength
Aid - . May only be transferred to an Andalite.
Bearer loses his race and gains the Bird race.
At the start of each skirmish involving bearer, you may add to make him strength +1.
The common...
Crow
Follower • Morph
-2 Strength
Aid - . Flight.
While you can spot no companions without a flight morph, each minion skirmishing bearer is strength -3.
Bearer loses his race and gains the Bird race.
"’Crows are total punks.’"
The specific use...
•Fluffer McKitty
Follower • Morph
-3 Strength
Aid - .
Bearer loses his race and gains the Cat race.
At the start of the first skirmish phase, you may exert bearer to reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. Take each non-event card revealed into hand and discard the rest.
And battle...
Grizzly
Follower • Morph
+2 Strength
+1 Vitality
Aid - . Battle.
Bearer loses his race and gains the Bear race. Bearer is damage +1.
Skirmish: If bearer is Rachel, exert her to exert a minion she is skirmishing.
Wolf
Follower • Morph
Aid - . Battle.
Bearer is strength +1 for each battle morph on companions.
Bearer loses his race and gains the Wolf race.
While you can spot 3 Wolf companions, bearer is damage +1.
"’Are you going to tell me you’d rather be doing equations?’"
And, of course, with morphs comes the problem with it...
Nothlit
Condition
Playable only during the skirmish phase. Bearer must be bearing a morph.
Morph cards may not be transferred from this character.
I know it’s quite a few cards, but I thought I’d get a few out right away. |
Our time here is ending...
What did you want to see before the end?
It will be made in the Request-a-card Set #1 (name ideas also welcome ). |

Well, next I’ll put up the Animorphs themselves, in their base forms:
•Ax, Uncle Ax
Companion • Andalite
8 Strength
4 Vitality
8 Resistance
Animorph. Damage +1. While you can spot Jake, Ax’s twilight cost is -1.
Maneuver: If Ax does not have a morph, exert him to choose a Shadow player who must discard a card from hand.
"’I would like to shuffle my artificial hooves to the music with you.’"
This is him in his natural form. His abilities are fairly standard, the Andalite tail-blades give them a damage bonus, and the maneuver ability is the mind game being played with having a real andalite among fakes.
•Jake, Prince Jake
Companion • Man
6 Strength
3 Vitality
7 Ringed Resistance
Animorph. While bearing The Blue Box, each other companion is strength +1 and resistance +1.
Response: If an companion is about to be wounded, exert Jake and add to prevent that wound.
"’Don’t call me prince.’"
A fairly straight-forward Jake. When he’s the bearer, his leading ability comes through, but he’s also able to protect the others.
•Rachel, Warrior Princess
Companion • Man
7 Strength
3 Vitality
6 Ringed Resistance
Animorph. While bearing The Blue Box, each time Rachel is wounded, make her strength +1 until the regroup phase.
Maneuver: If Rachel has a strength boosting morph, add a burden to make her strength +2 and resistance -1 until the end of the regroup phase (limit 3 times per phase).
"I’m ruthless at times. But even I have enough sense to know the words ’we have to win’ are the first four steps on the road to hell."
A more extreme companion, Rachel gets much more dangerous when she fights. She works best with the Grizzly morph, although others can help. This does further the thought of making the Ring-bearer a pincushion for archery by rewarding you further, but she’s also a fighter.
Also note her rage ability works even when someone else is bearing The Blue Box, by putting them in more danger in order to win.
•Tobias, Bird-boy
Companion • Man
5 Strength
3 Vitality
6 Resistance
Animorph. While you can spot Rachel, Tobias’ twilight cost is -1.
While bearing a Hawk morph, Tobias is resistance +3 and Hawk gains battle.
"’The Andalites will come. And until then...’"
The small, picked-on kid that would later become a hawk. He’s not that strong, and plays with Rachel well, as each are quite different than what they appear. When he becomes a hawk, he begins to adapt to it much better than he did as a human, and is able to make it work as a battle morph as well as others do with theirs (Grizzly, Tiger, Wolf, etc.)
•Cassie, Estreen [Animorphs]
Companion • Man
6 Strength
3 Vitality
8 Ringed Resistance
Animorph. While bearing The Blue Box, the cost to transfer a morph to Cassie is -2.
At the start of each regroup phase, the first Shadow player may discard a Man to make you transfer The Blue Box to another companion with Ringed Resistance.
"’I can get in free.’"
She has a much easier time in morphing than the others, most taking no further danger to morph into (interestingly, Wolf takes for her).
However, she has a slight problem keeping The Blue Box. There is no further negative effect to this ability as it is triggered by the Shadow player.
•Marco, Joke King
Companion • Man
6 Strength
3 Vitality
6 Ringed Resistance
Animorph.
Regroup: Discard an event to heal an Animorph companion.
"’So now what? Save the world?’"
Rather than do something rather serious, Marco takes a moment to break the tension. He also gives any event the ability to become a Regroup event that heals a wound. He doesn’t get a specific benefit for bearing The Blue Box, but he doesn’t have a specific drawback for it either. |

No problem, this is a light-hearted, when I feel like it set. And even without knowing anything about it, it still helps balance.
sickofpalantirs wrote: make it you may choose to add a burden instead
I wasn’t sure if that would be too strong or not. Can’t really wear it, hence the having to be morphed condition.
sickofpalantirs wrote: make it +1 something and cut the - strength, also make it only cost 1
+1 what?
The idea behind the minus is that when they morph, they become physically weaker. But I could see reducing the Kafit Bird to have no minus.
sickofpalantirs wrote: make it only -1 strength.
Makes perfect sense in combination with the Kafit Bird.
sickofpalantirs wrote: make it only -1
Well, Fluffer is much smaller and a much more specific use. I suppose -1 would still make sense, but you probably shouldn’t be using Fluffer McKitty when you need to fight...
sickofpalantirs wrote: cost to much, what does battle do? and flight? make it cost 2.
Well, the idea behind the cost is how hard it is to get to the animal. Battle and flight are unloaded keywords describing the morphs. They’ll get advantages, generally when you have multiple of the same type - indicating that they’re spying (Crow) or fighting (Wolf), but occassionally with different types (for example, a flight could boost the battle morphed by keeping an eye on the whole battlefield)
sickofpalantirs wrote: make it onlt cost 1. and have a limit and the + strength
Makes sense on the limit. Maybe +4? The cost has the same explanation as Grizzly. Although I could see it being reduced.

nice
I’m planning on have an version of Nothlit that indicates that they chose to stay past time. (Morphing having a time-limit, usually you demorph before time, when the morph is transferred to the support area - Nothlit means you were forced by the fighting to be in morph over the two hours) |
