Add a threat to make a Dwarf Strength +3 (or +4 if it is skirmishing an Orc).
The dwarves of yore made mighty spells... // In places deep where dark things sleep / In hollow halls beneath the fells.
Strength doesn’t need to be capitalized. Good card! |
I had to put something here. |

ok that is a nice balanced card but make the first +2 Strength or make the Second, "and Damage +1"

I’d change the perenthesis text to say "an Orc or at an underground" since the title of the card hints at the dungeons underground. Great card. |

Just a couple more cards to flesh out the strategy.
Thanks all for the reviews. GPs to all when I can.
Stout Companions
Condition • Support Area
While you can spot 4 threats, each Dwarf is strength +1.
For one thing, Bombur was immensely fat and heavy.
H1 C 52
• Dwarven Fortitude
Condition • Support Area
While you can spot 5 threats, no Dwarf can take more than 1 wound in a skirmish.
... for dwarves can roll along at a tremendous pace, I can tell you, when they have to...
H1 U 26
Dwarven Mail
Possession • Armor
Bearer must be a Dwarf.
Response: If bearer is about to exert, add a threat (or discard a possession borne by bearer) to place no token for that exertion.
Each one of his folk was clad in a hauberk of steel mail that hung to his knees.
H1 U 27
Dwarven Battleaxe
Possession • Hand Weapon
Bearer must be a Dwarf.
While bearer is Damage +X, bearer is strength +X.
Thorin wielded his axe with mighty strokes, and nothing seemed to harm him.
H1 U 25
I know I said a couple, but what are you going to do?

You need some way to restrict this. Maybe make it unique or have it be stronger and discard at the start of the regroup phase.

Could reduce the cost a little. is hefty for Dwarves.

I actually disagree on both counts. The idea of Stout Companions is a bit like G for Grand. You have to keep the threats high to make them work, and then it’s much cooler to have 4 out at once. Of course, once a companion dies, all the rest lose their strength as well. I like that card the way it is.
And the argument go even more strongly for the second. Making it unique would have no real impact, since more than one copy doesn’t really do anything. It isn’t too powerful, just rather good.
These cards look playable to me, rather than broken.

I’d take out the perenthesis. T’would get overpowered with all the possessions about already.

Wow thanks! I’ve always wanted one of those!
Thanks, all, for the thoughts.

Right, time for some shadow cards and some lovely (and very hungry) trolls. But first, I’d like to justify my choice of culture before everyone complains at me.
I chose the culture for the majority of my minions, from Trolls to Orcs to Wargs to Giants. I know the dire state the culture is currently in, with broken combo after broken combo filling its ranks, but I actually chose my cultures before hunters certainly, and probably a long time before that too, and very early on I decided I’d rather make old cultures more interesting than invent my own. Currently, I haven’t changed the culture, but I may yet do so, I haven’t quite decided. I am also well aware that quite a few of my cards are probably completely over the top for the current official cards, so if people can avoid pointing out broken combos in their interaction and just appreciate the cards in themselves (unless such combos are very cool, or very entertaining) it will probably save a lot of time. I am, however, open to any suggestions to resolve these issues and welcome any thoughts people have.
Another quick word about a keyword featured on one of these cards. Terror X - When this character is assigned to skirmish another character, you may make that character’s owner exert X of their characters.
Awful Howl
Event • Skirmish
Make a companion skirmishing an minion strength -1 for each Troll you can spot. Unless that companion is a Dwarf, they may exert to prevent this.
Trolls simply detest the very sight of dwarves (uncooked).
H1 U 148
Roast Mutton
Possession • Support Area
When you play this possession, you may heal an Troll twice.
Skirmish: If an Troll is skirmishing a companion, discard this possession to draw a card.
’And time’s been up our way, when yer’d have said "thank yer Bill" for a nice bit o’ valley mutton like what this is.’
H1 C 193
• Bert, Eater of Mutton
Minion • Troll
Str: 14
Vit: 4
Sit: 3
Fierce.
Tom and William’s twilight costs are -2.
Shadow: Exert Bert twice to make an Troll gain Terror 1 until the regroup phase.
’Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don’t look like mutton again tomorrer.’
H1 C 149
• Tom, Wanter of Manflesh
Minion • Troll
Str: 15
Vit: 4
Sit: 3
Fierce.
William and Bert’s twilight costs are -2.
Each time Tom wins a skirmish, you may draw 2 cards.
’Never a blinking bit of manflesh have we had for long enough...’
H1 U 203
• William, Speaker of Reason
Minion • Troll
Str: 12
Vit: 4
Sit: 3
Fierce.
Bert and Tom’s twilight costs are -2.
William is strength +1 for each card you have in hand.
’You’ve et a village and a half between yer, since we come down from the mountains. How much more d’yer want?’
