Just wondered what people thought on this matter:

Decipher has definately been falling down the tubes over the years, especially after the end of their popular SWCCG game and the unpopularity of WARS TCG and the drop in playing in LotR TCG after the movies were finished being released.

It seems as though they are working out of a closet these days with minimal staff, and that they are not working as hard as they used to to bring us the best attempts at design, playtesting, and quality that they formerly did.

The question is this: What will you do when Decipher either shuts down or finishes LotR TCG? Will you continue to collect and play at least for a year or two or will you sell and switch to a new game? I am asking this and assuming that Decipher will at least finish the sets that they intended and promised us on the Answer To All Riddles Promo set list. It would be even worse if they quit before finishing that. What do you think?

Probably still play. LotR is a fun game, and with all the cards released, we calculated there are millions of possible deck combinations. So I don’t think the novelty will wear off that easily. Besides, I have some strategies I still need to investigate, like Isengard men, Isengard orcs, Sauron swarm, Twilight Nazgul, Morcs etc that I haven’t experimented with yet.

I’ll keep playing until the novelty wears off, which I think will be a while.

And I hope they can renew the license and keep making sets past the Great Eye. I would love it if the made a hobbit set.

yes, I know... I think that interest in LotR tcg hit rock bottom but it’s not going to get much lower than it is now. If they can keep bringing out sets somewhat on schedule (a lot of people stopped when Hunters was delayed like a year I think) then I think they can stay alive with LotR and their Star Trek game being their two main ones. They just need to rebuild and go back to the basics. I just hope that they at least finish the Great Eye

But if it turns out like T&D, do we really want them to?

I’ll play LotR for a long time, so long as I have someone to play against (*ahem* AL...). And I probably won’t ever sell, becuase by the time I stop playing, no one would buy. But I might switch to another card game. Depends on how old I’ve become. =D

Cobra needs a bigger MTG player base, so it’ll stay around if LotR goes totally under. I don’t want this site to die (and I might end up being a MTG player one of these days, who knows? Mr. Green )

Anyways, LotR is great and I’ll be playing it for a while.

If the rest of the seta are like T&D, then stop the presses. If D can clean up their act, then bring on Age’s End and beyond!

I am especially looking forward to Shelob’s Lair. Thumbs Up

I’ll still play for a year or two after. That’s what my entire player group did with Star Wars CCG when sets for it weren’t being produced anymore. It’ll be a loss, as Decipher had planned to bring us many more sets after this one. I think I read somewhere on this forum the idea of Treachery and Deciet living up to its name. In other words, the cards we’re seeing right now won’t have the gametext we’ll see on the actual physical cards. The pictures and card titles may be right, but the spoilers are faux. If this is true, I’ll be one happy Rings player! All the broken cards we seen get spoiled are just fake versions of what will really come out! If this isn’t true, I see a large LotR TCG fan base suddenly drop when the tournament scene is overrun by broken decks filled with cards from Treachery and Deciet that have yet to be X/R-listed. It would really be a shame to see some of these cards get through without being X/R-listed. I’ll still play only because my player group and I will come up with our own X/R-list, and strictly play casual.

You’re all so dependent on D.

If they die, start printing out your own cards. DCs and the like. Laughing

Although that could use up alot of ink, come to think of it.

I dunno if I’ll keep playing. It sorta depends on how well my "local" (AKA, spread across the entire northeast corner of KS) survives. Then again, I’m slightly tempted to quit as it is, and just become an obsessive-compulsive collecter of WETA cards.
Never kid about politicians. The more bizarre the joke, the more likely it is to come true.

I’ll still play for a while... or I’ll at least perfect my decks (which I’ve already almost done Twisted Evil). There are a lot of deck ideas that I’m itching to make, and in a way it’d be nice because I wouldn’t have to constantly be trying to keep up with the new sets and I could just focus on completing what I already have.

As long as my player group gets together I’ll play. If LotR does go under I’ll try to finish my culture sets ( Shire , Gollum , Gandalf , Isengard , Men ). Then I’ll just play Trek 2E until whenever.

Or if I ever get a decent job I’ll just vanish one day and you guys will know I’m in a better place. Wink
