When you play this minion, X is the difference between the number of companions and threats you can spot.
meaning companions - number of threats? or vice versa?
If you had 4 companions and 2 threats, and you subtracted one from the other (don’t matter) you get a number. 4-2 is 2. So his cost would be 2. 2-4 would be -2, but for the purposes of this card would be 2. (Since there are no - numbers in LotR TCG)

that is like, a free add a threat, first take away the remova a threat, then make it return another minion to hand, or else, you could do this an infinite amount of times

You may add up to 9 threats.
Shadow: Remove 3 threats to play an minion. It is twilight cost -2.
Skirmish: Remove 3 threats to make an minion strength +2.
At the end of this turn, remove all threats and discard this condition.
Change: Used SOP’s advice on adding the shadow ability.
Uruk Vagabond
Minion • Uruk-hai
Strength: 10
Vitality: 3
Site Number: 5
Damage +1.

nice captured it perfectly. you could add shadow, remove 3 tokens to play a uruk-hai. its twilight cost -1/2

You need a semicolon after "discard pile".
