Once again, an excellent summary, BW. GP Thanks for keeping us straight.

Now we just need Adalard’s stuff. Smile

As Rorin, Silvarin, and Ectheow went off to find Duinihir and see if he had any more ale, Ryle couldn’t help but shake his head in wonder at the many ironies in that simple act. “A Dwarf, an Elf, and a minstrel,” he mumbled to himself, grinning. “Sounds like the beginning of a joke.” He looked up to see Aeglirnen settle onto the branch of a dead tree near the river, watching the rushing waters intently. Eagles were often forced to hunt small mammals and insects, but what they really loved was fish. Ryle wasn’t sure if there were any in these waters, especially in this chilled air, but if there were, he knew Aeglirnen would find them.

“I wonder where this river flows,” Ellar said, walking up behind him. “It may be a tributary of the Mitheithel and flow down into the Greyflood, or perhaps it even connects to your Lake Evendim somehow.”

“I doubt it flows to Evendim,” Ryle said. “Only the Baranduin branches from there—you probably know it as the Brandywine—and that flows south.”

Nearby, Adalard’s ears perked up at the familiar name and he wandered over. “Did I hear you discussing the Brandywine River?” he asked.

Ryle smiled down at the Hobbit. “Sort of, yes. We were wondering where this river might lead.”

“Ah,” Adalard replied, turning to watch the rushing tide. “Well wherever it goes, it gets there quickly.”

“Indeed,” Ellar said with an amused grin.

“That’s an interesting thought, actually,” Ryle said. “A river flowing this quickly at this elevation...we are probably near its source. It is not very wide here, as it would be further downstream.”

Adalard furrowed his brow, but then said “Of course! That’s what I was getting at.”

“Of course,” Ryle replied with a concealed smile. “I wonder not so much where this flows to, but where it flows from. We must be at a higher elevation than I thought...and we are probably going to climb higher ahead.”

“Fascinating conversation,” said a voice with more than a hint of sarcasm.

“I would think you rangers would be at least somewhat curious about the lands we are roaming, Dirthon,” Ellar chided mildly.

The ranger shrugged. “A river is a river,” he said simply.

“Not to those from Dale,” Ellar replied. “The River Running which flows from the Long Lake is our very lifeblood, our main source of food and trade, at least until the refounding of Erebor.”

“Fair enough,” Dirthon replied, raising his hands defensively. “I just came to let you know that Curubethion wanted to see you for a moment, Ellar.”

“Oh?” Ellar looked past him to where Curubethion was stooped over the remains of one of the icewargs. “Thank you, Dirthon. Excuse me,” he said to Ryle and Adalard, and headed towards the company’s leader.

“Wonder what that’s about?” Adalard thought aloud.

Dirthon simply shrugged and watched as Ryle’s eagle dived into the flowing water and came out with a large fish before disappearing into the treeline. “Wow, that was fast.”

“Hmm?” Ryle replied, turning to watch the spot where the ranger was looking. “Oh, he got one? I missed it!”

“That was...a little disturbing,” Adalard said, who had seen it as well. But then he considered. “It would make fishing The Water by Whitfurrows and Budgeford a little easier, though....”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kind of a pointless section, I suppose, but until we move, I think there would be mingling like this going on.

Besides, I had to set up my event:

3 People of the Lake Gandalf
Event • Fellowship
Tale. Spot 2 Gandalf Men to discard a condition (and remove 2 if the fellowship is at a river site).
“‘The River Running which flows from the Long Lake is our very lifeblood, our main source of food and trade....’”

This event, when played, will discard Too Swift for Arrows, which will get rid of the -1 strength for Wargs, but also allow them to take wounds outside of skirmishes again. Archers are back in the mix, boys! Smile

Tuilin watched Silvarin and Rorin talk. He knew Silvarins history, he had been present when he was released from his bondage, and had been commanding elvish armies in mirkwood when Lyon was killed. A solitary tear ran down his cheek in memory of a friendship that might have been. He thought back to the battle with the ice-wargs. This time his arrow had hit. Problem was, though the shot had been "perfect" the area he hit fatal to most creatures that walked middle earth, the ice warg didn’t even pause. But, at least he could hit it now. He went back to Silvarin and Lyon, thinking. He though to of his own family. Rorin walked up to him after Silvarin had taken some ale and walked away. "The things you learn." The dwarf said as he sat down with a plop. Tuilin look at him slightly quizzically and then smiled. "Let me guess" said the dwarf, " You saw your own family killed by orcs and went out to seek vengeance, then you succeeded, became a warrior, and went around killing things."
"Actually yes." The dwarf looked at him "I can never tell when you elves are being cynical, are you serious?"
"Yes I am I did see my family killed by orcs, most of them at least, and i have spent the last several hundred years killing any foul creature I can find."
"The things you learn" Rorin muttered as he got up and walked away.

Ellar strode over to where Curubethion stood, hunched over a parchment.

"You wanted to see me, my old friend?"

Curubethion looked up from what Ellar could now see was a map of the area.
It was then that Ellar realized how haggard and worn the ranger looked. Before he spoke, the ranger nodded.

"Yes, I did, Ellar."

"About anything in particular?"

"Yes. I need some advice."

Ellar gazed kindly down at the ranger. It was clear that the mysterious spirits and unearthly wargs had shaken him as much as any of the other members; perhaps even more. Ellar nodded.

"Ask anything, my friend, and I will help you as best I may."

Curubethion looked gratefully at Ellar and a hint of a smile tinged his lips. He motioned for Ellar to come to his side. Together, the two men sat down on a fallen log to talk.

"Ellar, I need to ask you a question that is very personal to me, and I want you to answer with your most honest answer." Curubethion paused for a moment for Ellar to reply.

"I will give you that, on my honor."

Curubethion cleared his throat. "I want to know if you believe I am right in leading this company on this quest. It appears we are dealing with more then the natural any more...Ellar, I’m afraid that I might be leading these men to their deaths. I couldn’t bear it if any one of these valiant warriors died because of my poor leadership. I could never forgive myself."

Ellar listened and then thought for a moment. "Curubethion," he began, "I know you are a valiant man. Trust me when I say that you are doing what is right by undertaking this quest. You are doing exactly was a warrior should do, protect his country. If you weren’t here to lead this quest, think of what might happen to the millions of free peoples out there who would be slaughtered by these nightmarish creatures if we had not discovered them. Now, we know of them and can prepare for them. We will be able to defend our loved ones because of our scouting the enemies. Yes, Curubethion, I believe with my whole heart that you are doing what is right. I wouldn’t have joined you if I didn’t. None of these warriors would have. They also believe you are doing good, and they look to you for guidence. Take heart what I have said, and know this: that any one of these warriors would happily give their lives for those they love. That is the way of the warrior, that is how it has always been."

Curubethion was silent after Ellar stopped. Then he said, "Thank you Ellar. I appeciate your words. My mind is more peaceful now, even though it is still burdened by my tireless worries. Please, round up the others, we shall be continuing on soon."

Ellar nodded and stood up. "I understand. If you ever need some more advise or someone to talk to, I will be there, for that is what friends are for."

With that, the man of Dale turned and went to round up the other companions. They still had a long way to go. The journey was not over yet.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, now, sorry this took so long. Finishing up school and all...
Anyway, here’s my event. Also, I hope my story is okay, like Frodo, Curubethion is burdened by the thought of his companions getting killed on his account, so with Ellar was able to help reassure Curubethion that what he was doing was right and they he need not worry for the lives of his company as they are willing to die for the life of their loved ones.

2 Words of Advise Gandalf

Fellowship: Spot a Gandalf Man and exert him to remove a burden (Or two burdens if that Man was Ellar).

Looks great, KiE. Well done! GP The ONLY potential problem is that, right now, we don’t need to remove any burdens (I don’t think), but hopefully we can keep that in our "hand" or "deck" and use it when/if we need it later. Thumbs Up That’s up to our leader though, I suppose.

Now we just need Adalard to chip in, and we can be on our way. Very Happy

This had fallen to page 2... and we still need BW’s post and DC.
I had to put something here.
