Okay guys, a lot of reviews contrasted- Lem0nhead thought I should make
Hobbit Archer, unique NBarden thinks that is, as he put it "But being unique, Shire can now throw out a grand total of 1 archery. Useless, make it do something cool." And lem0head thought that a non-unique archer was, "too good." And SoP thinks that the Lothlorien Archer should be Archer, and NBarden agrees with Lem0n. Geez. Suffice it to say, the strength -2 is the archery ’shot’. I’ll ditch the defender stuff.

Needs rephrasing; When you play this minion, discard a card from the top of the free peoples draw deck or add a burden. But id remove the burden bit. WAY too powerful to get a burden just for playing him. If he’s not unique and you havent got a previous copy of him you dont need a subtitle.

4 Variag Scout Men

Strength: 4
Vitality: 2
Site:4
Variag. Hunter 6. Ambush 3.
Each time Variag Scout wins a skirmish,
discard a a card from the top of your opponent’s

Cut the ambush down to 1 and make it hunter 5.

4 Battle-Hardened Foe Men
Condition • Support Area
Each time you play a Variag
add 2 tokens here. Each time you play a Men
minion which is not a Variag add only one token
here. Remove X tokens from this card to discard
X cards from the top of your opponent’s draw deck (limit 4).

Rephrase it to "Each time you play a Men minion add a token here (or 2 tokens if that minion is Variag)."
The ability needs a phase such as Shadow: At the moment you cant use it because you havent said when to activate it.
As it is its way too powerful, this card alone could deck your opponent out in half a game with your other variags discarding. Need to say something like Shadow: Remove 4 tokens from here to discard the top card from the free peoples players draw deck.

If youre making it damage +1 id drop the site -1 and drop the strength to +1.

8 •Half-Troll of the South, Men

Play X Variags to make this minion
Strength +X. Regroup. Discard a 3 cards for each
card in you opponent’s dead pile.

The way of phrasing this minion how you want it to work is to say: This minion is strength +1 for each Variag you spot OR Shadow: Play a Variag to make this minion strenght +1 until the regroup phase. But the second one is probably too powerful. As it is it doesnt make any sense and doesnt work. Dont understand what the regroup ability does either. Damage +1 Hunter 4 and Regroup: all need bold.

Still doesnt work how you want it to. Phrase it one of the ways i suggested. And like i said unless you state it the strength wont last until the regroup.
And the last ability shouldnt have Regroup: It should just say At the start of the regroup phase. Or i would personally just edit yours to say Regroup: Exert this minion to make an opponent discard......3 cards from the top of the draw deck for..... Doing it from hand seems pointless.

Not a DC expert, but I think the assignment orc is too powerful. I can’t remember any minion before in the game with a so clean assignment special ability. Rare cards like Mouth of Sauron, Shadowy Mount, FOTR Toldea, all of them need something to get them going. You can splash him in any deck for an extra wound and to take the biggest guy out of your way, and it’s U.

I think you should add a very easy way for the freeps to get around his ability, actually make it more like a bonus because being an archer is already great for a 3/6/2 U minion.

The subtitle should come before the culture icon, and generally, only unique characters have subtitles anyway. I think he SHOULD be unique based on his text, so add a uniqueness dot (•) before his name. I agree with lem0n: his text needs a little rephrasing.

For me, the card would look like this:

4•Variag Captain, Battle-Hardened Warrior Men
Minion • Man
Strength: 8
Vitality: 3
Site: 4
Variag. Captain. Hunter 2.
Shadow: When you play this minion, you may discard a card from the top of your opponent’s draw deck.

Overall, though, a neat card. Just needs a little rephrasing and such. Thumbs Up

I think it would be better if the ability was optional, like this:

Each time this minion wins a skirmish, you may discard a a card from the top of your opponent’s draw deck.

Notice I also changed "Variag Scout" in the text to "this minion". I did this because, if the minion is NOT unique, it should say simply "this minion" in the text--always--instead of the name. The name is ONLY used in the game text for unique character. I also chopped out "Skirmish" because it’s not needed.

You had some extra text in there I cut out. I added a phase to the ability, though if you don’t want to do it in Shadow, then just do the phase you DO want instead. Smile I’d also make this condition unique, as it’s VERY powerful.

Again, subtitle before culture, like I did with Variag Captain, Battle-Hardened Warrior.

Rewording suggestions:

Shadow: Play another Variag to make this minion strength +1 until the regroup phase (limit 3).
At the start of the regroup phase, the Free Peoples player must discard 3 cards from hand for each card in their dead pile.

I added a limit to the Shadow ability and also reworded it...it wouldn’t work the way you had it written originally. I also tweaked the regroup ability so it’s clearer what you’re trying to do.

Neat ideas...I’m just trying to help you express them. Very Happy
