Unless a card says so like "if you control a battleground" then sites that are controlled cannot be spotted nor anything on them. Lost in the woods will only work with sites on the adventure path, regardless of whose turn it is.
Not true. The rules for control say nothing about a site needing to be on the site path in order to spot it. Cards like Lost in the woods and dark approach that say "for each x you can spot" can count controlled sites in your opponents support area. The key word there is spot. Spotting means the card must be "in play and active". Active cards include sites on the adventure path and sites in any players’ support area. If the card says "for each x you can spot on the adventure path" such as Arwen, Staunch defender, then the card cannot be controlled.

Rulings taken from the definitions of Control, Spot and Active in the comprehensive rule book 4.0

you know what would be fun? M_H and bib25 disagreeing on some rules issue. of course they would probably lose poor spammer’s like me by page 2...

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. Razz

It has happened before, but usually when someone challenges my ruling I go back and find out that I made a really stupid mistake somewhere along the line in my reasoning. Also, there are very few things that I think are worth arguing over unless I know I’m right. I’ll bow to Bib’s judgment pretty much any day.
