Definitely ass Gondor Bow and Aragorn’s Bow.
Well there’s no need to swear.

Tweaked the minions as recommended, and that (plus cutting a Warg) opened up room for two copies of Encirclement. Should I try to squeeze in more somehow?
ok, i’ve done some more research, and i am of the opinion that some changes need to be made. your main strategy it to stack besiegers, make them strong, and swarm your opponent. i’ll go card by card here:
Gothmog, Lieutenant of Morgul(4 copies is good, he’s a solid minion with a great wounding text and is most of the time fierce.)
Siege Troop (i’d have 4 of these puppies in the deck, but you can get by with 3)
Troll of Gorgoroth, Abomination of Sauron (this guy works well with your strategy, he is strong and a besieger. don’t put any more than 2 copies in.)
Mordor Pillager (this dude is awesome, he is great against three hunters.)
Gorgoroth Troop (yes, he can stack you guys and become strong, VERY strong. i like to combo him with officer though.)
Gorgoroth Berserker (you can get away with 2x of these guys. you also want to save your threats for playing minions.)
Gorgoroth Agitator(great for adding threats. 2x is sufficient)
Gorgoroth Engineer (great combo with Their Marching Companies.)
Gorgoroth Keeper (stacks himself, which is good)
Gorgoroth Swarm (nails large fellowships, and combos well with itself. there are plenty of times when i’ve played one controlled a site and played the other from my discard pile, and controlled another site and played another minion.)
Grond, Hammer of the Underworld (i see why you have this, you want to help with the troll, and it can get rid of pesky conditions, but i think you will find that it can be more of a hindrance than a help.)
Ithil Stone (essential, 2x should be sufficient, don’t be afraid to discard them to set up a good swarm.)
Gothmog’s Warg (i wish i had a pair of these in my deck, they would work wonders with siege troop enabling him to control up to 2 sites for his text! you can get by without them, but i think they are far more worthwhile than the gronds.)
Encirclement (get one more copy if possible, but its more important that you shrink the size of the deck.)
Troop Tower (this is an AWESOME condition, adds strength and controls sites, but you can get away with 2x)
Tower Walkway (you will find that you can pull this text off more often than you think, and it makes your minions incredibly strong, i’d add 1 more.)
Their Marching Companies(without this, your deck becomes a lot less effective, because you can only stack with the minion’s texts, and you can’t play any of them.)
Din of Arms (2x of these is good, they are so much fun when you have 5 besiegers out!)
Sauron’s Might (get rid of this card. it hinges on the freeps having a token to remove, and all it does is add a threat. throw it out and don’t let it back in. you need to be drawing a bunch of minions not events that won’t help you.)
i think this deck needs dome gorgoroth sappers to be most effective. and i HIGHLY recommend dwarven cycling to set up sweet swarms. my deck is standard format, and it works well. you could get away with a bigger deck if you added 4x gorgoroth sapper and used him every chance you can get. |

Swarm massively. Grond gets mega tokens. Buh-bye FP cards.
Sure, it only works when the minions are first played, but the massive accumulation of tons of cheap minions, even if they only work once can mean no Hobbit Sword on Frodo, no pumping for the RB, or any protection, no whatever you want! |

Okay, I’ve tweaked the Shadow side based on the reviews. Thanks, guys!
Each side is now 1 card bigger, but with the Gorgoroth Sappers and Officer, I think I can get away with that. The FP side has an extra sword but is otherwise unchanged.
Free Peoples (40 cards):
Isildur, Bearer of Heirlooms (w/ The One Ring, The Ring of Rings)
Companions (9 cards):
Gandalf, Leader of Men (starting)
Knight of Dol Amroth (starting)
Aragorn, Captain of Gondor x2
Boromir, Hero of Osgiliath
Elendil, High-king of Gondor
Imrahil, Prince of Dol Amroth
Garrison of Gondor
Faramir, Wizard’s Pupil
Artifacts/Possessions (14 cards):
Anduril, Sword That Was Broken
Narsil, Blade of the Faithful
Glamdring, Foe-hammer
Gondorian Blade x3
Gondor Bow x4
Knight’s Mount x2
Gondorian Steed
Scroll of Isildur
Conditions (8 cards):
King’s Legacy
Fourth Level x4
Sixth Level
Watch and Wait x2
Events (9 cards):
Sharpen Your Swords x4
Citadel to Gate
Duty of Two x2
Stout Resistance x2
The Shadow side has dropped Sauron’s Might, tweaks the Towers and Walkway numbers a bit, and dropped a couple minions (a Berserker and a Swarm) in favor of a few Sappers and an Officer.
Shadow (40 cards):
Minions (26 cards):
Gothmog, Lieutenant of Morgul x4
Siege Troop x3
Troll of Gorgoroth, Abomination of Sauron x2
Mordor Pillager x2
Gorgoroth Troop x2
Gorgoroth Berserker x2
Gorgoroth Agitator x2
Gorgoroth Engineer x2
Gorgoroth Keeper x2
Gorgoroth Sapper x3
Gorgoroth Officer
Gorgoroth Swarm
Artifacts/Possessions (5 cards):
Grond, Hammer of the Underworld x2
Ithil Stone x2
Gothmog’s Warg
Conditions (7 cards):
Encirclement x2
Troop Tower x2
Tower Walkway x2
Their Marching Companies
Events (2 cards):
Din of Arms x2
How’s THAT now?
I know this might pair better with a FP side like Dwarves, and if this Shadow does decently in playtesting, I will certainly pair it with some different FP sides. But I like the story aspect of having knights on one side and besiegers on the other.
Any more ideas? What about recommendations on what to cut if I take this down to, say, 36-37 cards per side?
Thanks for all your help so far, guys. I’m giving s away to AP, mm, and NBarden. |

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |
