Uh, Felipe, you haven’t judged my entry yet, nor BobtheOrc’s . Thinking of doing that soon? |
My Trading List
Popcorn is not gooey like fat, and also not crunchy like potato chips, but crispy like lettuce which makes it a healthy snack. |

Ok, on to another one! Now, it’s Celebrimbor’s time, and then, only BTO will be missing so we can move along to the next one!
He missed Ally, so he’ll be getting a 0 for it, and he also submitted two companions, so I’ll just drop the second one.
•Thorondor, Mightiest of Eagles
Companion • Eagle
Strength: 12
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
Thorondor takes no more than 1 wound during each skirmish involving him.
Skirmish: If Thorondor is not assigned to a Skirmish, spot Gandalf or a Man to have him replace that companion in his skirmish.
"...Built his eyries in the inaccessible peaks of the Encircling Mountains when Middle-Earth was young."

VERY good card for an opener, way to go, Celebrimbor, I expected no less! However, his skirmish ability is WAAAY too powerful, he’s already splashable for lack of spotting requirements, having to spot ONE Man to have him replace him is over the line. Maybe exerting that Man twice, or spotting 3 Men, after all, you WOULD most of the times be saving a companion from certain demise, or winning an otherwise unwinable skirmish.
 •Gothmog, High-Chieftain of Angband [Balrog]
Minion • Balrog
Strength: 18
Vitality: 4
Site Number: 5
Fierce. Damage +1. Rallying. (When you play this minion, you may exert it to play another character from the same race from your draw deck or discard pile)
Gothmog is twilight cost -1 for each companion that has a shadow token on it.
Each time a possession is played, you may reveal this card from hand to place a shadow token on a companion (except the Ring-bearer).
R+ (Starter Rare is still a Rare, Celebrimbor. I’ll let it slip this time, only lowering your "Rarity" grade, but do not repeat this mistake again, or you’ll get a 0 on the whole card, for exceeding the given quota for the rarity.)

AMAZING card! Creative-wise as it can get! Creating a whole new culture for Balrogs was a VERY nice idea, which no one explored so far! Not to mention, this card would make it one tasty preview card for a new set! Comeback of The Balrog, a new culture, a new ability and new ways to use tokens, creating generic tokens which’ll be able to be spotted for several cards of several cultures, not to mention the fun it’ll be in a multi-player match! Too bad the rarity thing lowered your grade on this one!

MAJOR issues with this one, it has a RIDICULOUS aid cost for a TREMENDOUS strength boost, WAAAY too overpowered for an uncommon, or even a rare! Such strength should come at a high cost. For instance, if he had the following ability: "At the start of the regroup phase, return this card to your support area and place bearer in the dead pile", THEN it’d be a nice card. You get to win an otherwise unwinable skirmish, get rid of a pesky minion, but still can’t avoid the inevitable, and the character "takes one for the team", following the cue of the wraiths. Also, it should DEFINITELY be a rare.
•Orcrist, Goblin-Cleaver
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength: +2
Vitality: +1
Resistance: +1
Bearer must be a Dwarf. If bearer is Thorin, each Orc in his skirmish loses all game text (except for title and race).
The goblins of the misty mountains tremble in fear at the very mention of the ancient blade’s name.

Another amazing card. Looks like we’ll have tough competition in this Contest! My only problem was the word "Orc" in the ability. Actually, the sword is a GOBLIN cleaver. Now, I know thegame has no Goblins, they just treat them as orcs, so you should’ve limited to and orcs, as they’re the most suited ones.

To play, spot 3 companions.
At the start of the maneuver phase, you may wound each companion to make this condition a damage +1 companion that has 10 strength and three vitality that cannot take wounds or bear other cards, until the regroup phase. This card is still a condition.

Too powerful. Can you imagine how a swarm would overabuse this site? It should either be an old-school site for the beginning of the path, or the ability should be reduced to the first minion, or have a twilight cost itself.

Celebrimbor has proven to be the most creative Contestant so far! I’m very pleased he took part in the Contest! Here’s you gp for this challenge, well deserved! Ok, then, tomorrow, it’s time for bto! Starting on Thursday, this thread is open again for eventual pledges you might have (just remember the pledging rule), and each one will be responded in here, also. Then, on Sunday, I’ll be posting the next challenge! |

Just a couple Q’s:
R+ (Starter Rare is still a Rare, Celebrimbor. I’ll let it slip this time, only lowering your "Rarity" grade, but do not repeat this mistake again, or you’ll get a 0 on the whole card, for exceeding the given quota for the rarity.)
What does this exactly mean?
Oh, and also what does BTO mean?

Well, the rarity for those cards was "SR", and the closestthing I could associate with these are Starter Rare, meaning those rares that come into pre-constructed decks. |

Ok, on to the last cards, from bobtheorc! His Ring grade is 0.

Cool opener! I personally loved the flavor text. However, I didn’t like the ability very much because of the title of the card. It should either be "Friend to a Dwarf" and keep that ability, or its wording should be "wound a minion skirmishing Gimli".
•Ulaire Attea, Feared Wraith
Minion • Ringwraith
Strength: 12
Vitality: 3
Site Number: 3
Regroup: Exert Ulaire Attea and discard a card from hand to add a threat.

Another cool card! I loved the subtlety between title, ability and flavor text, not to mention lowering its cost was a very nice tough of originality, after all, the card doesn’t do that much. However, I think I miss it being fierce, otherwise, it’s a pretty costly for adding threats at the expense of your hand, and that if he’s wound-free until the regroup phase...
•Lady of Gondor
Allly • Home 3 [Tower] • Man

Shadow: Exert an Uruk-hai to place an Isengard token on a machine.

Now, on the other hand, THIS one should be an uncommon, at least. Not to mention, it should cost AT LEAST , after all, it has no spotting requirement, and makes uruk berserkers with Borad-Bladed Sword A BEAST! But GREAT sinergy, very old-school feeling!

Well, nothing new here at all. Also, Pathfinder costs 0, even if you wanted to give this card a cost (after all, it HAS a pretty steep spotting requiremente), it should be , TOPS! Also, well, a title-less card has some SERIOUS issues, so...
Armory of Rohan [Site] 3 [Tower]
At the start of the fellowship phase, you may exert a man to play a possession from your discard pile.
“The armory was well stocked... the three hunters found the possessions they required.”

Again, a remake of existing cards and abilities, without any hint of inovation. Also, I assume you DID want this site to be a one-shot thing, rather than a Fellowship action, so it must have the "may", otherwise, if there’s ANY possession at your discard pile, it’s mandatory that you retrieve it. Another thing, I think this site’d be more useful as a site 5 or 6, although as a site 3, it DOES allow you to discard a possession to try a better Shadow hand for free, so it has its value.
•Seeing Stone of Ithil
Artifact • Support Area
To play, exert 2 minions (or spot 3 minions).
Maneuver: Exert a orc and discard a card from hand to reveal the Free Peoples hand (limit once per phase). You may then discard a revealed Free Peoples event or condition.

I just think it costs too little for all the benefits. Also, I think you could’ve gone further on this one, making it a Possession • Shield, and adding the wording "bearer can’t bear more than one hand weapon".

Two major issues: it’s not unique, making a deck a discarding machine, and it should have "(except the Ring-bearer)" after the skirmish ability, otherwise, Ents would be just unbeatable by Swarms. Other than that, pretty nice.
FINAL GRADE: 8,156
Bobtheorc has some MAJOR formatting issues and a few wording issues he has to work on, and is still too "attached" to old concepts, but his cards look fine otherwise. A rightfully-earned gp.
Ok, from here on, thread is open for pledging (and discussion on impressions on the challenge, and such, whatever suits yourselves). Now, before this becomes a mess, here’s how this will work:
1- Find the post containing your cards;
2- Click the "Quote" button;
3- Find the card you’ll be pledging about, and delete everything except for the card, it’s grades and my comments;
4- Write a 5-line-maximum pledge for ONE of the grades, explaining which one you’ll be pledging about, and why.
I’ll get back to them as soon as possible.
PS: Pledging does NOT necessarily means you’ll get a better grade, but it’ll never LOWER a grade. Any Pledge ignoring this format will ALSO be ignored, and the author will lose his pledging rights for this challenge. |

I had only issues with this card’s title, since Bilbo Baggins is not an acceptable title anymore, they’re all named just Bilbo to avoid confusion. Also, I think this one is TOO close to the FotR Bilbo, so that lost some creativity points. The rarity was a BIG upside, after all, it’s a nice catch to put an out-of-context ally as a R+, since it’s an out-of-contest set after all!
Ok, my pledge is fairly straight forward. I believe that the score on Card Title should be upped, as we were suppossed to get the feelings of differen sets. In the early sets, Bilbo Baggins was entitled just that, Bilbo Baggins, it wasn’t until later sets when it was changed. That’s my pledge. |

Didn’t like the flavor text, I don’t think it keys well to the card. Also, one minor issue on formatting: If it’s a Shadow card, then you’re on your Shadow phase, thus, ANY companion played WILL be being played by the Free Peoples Player, too redundant.
I believe that the score for flavor text should be increased. The lore comes directly from the books, when Gorbag and Shagrat are conversing. Shagrat received news that spies were feared on the Stairs, and that they were to have "Double Vigilance". The game text keys off of this - it a companion is played, then the Uruks are to harry him. Everything flows together nicely - the title, the ability, and the lore.
That’s my challenge for the round.
