Why not just chop the first part its already better than On Guard and doesnt even need resistance spotting. Id also cut the until the regoup phase part.
Have you ever actually used On Guard? I haven’t, and I run 3 or 4 decks. Nevertheless, I’ve increased the cost and toned it down a little, and I’ve changed some of the others as well.
LOL sorry mate but yeah i do thats why ive referenced it, i have 3 dwarf decks and use it in 2 of them.
These cards are supposed to be versatile. It’s going to be quite a small set anyway so I’ve been trying to fit as much usefulness on each card as I can - there is very little that Tolkien ever wrote on the Second Age, especially outside of Numenor, so I don’t actually have many card titles, and certainly not enough lore texts!
Right ok.
I’ve been liking big regroup events for the culture in this set, so here are 2 more. The first one is representing the eagle-shaped clouds Manwe sent to deter the Numenorians from travelling to Valinor. I’m sure you can tell it worked real good.
 Eagles of Manwe
Event • Regroup
Spot an Elf with resistance 6 or more to choose an opponent who must discard a Shadow card from play. Then you may repeat this for each artifact borne by that Elf.
Cool.
 Promise of the Undying Lands
Event • Regroup
To play, spot 3 Elves.
Heal each companion with resistance 6 or more and exert each other character. Then, you may wound each minion.
Sound.

You may have noticed I decided to make Promise of the Undying Lands a legendary card, as part of a cycle of huge legendary events, I’ve decided.
Which leads me onto some ideas I’ve been having about the keyword legendary.
My idea was 2-fold:
1) That legendary cards should go to the dead pile when they are discarded from play (Shadow players would create a dead pile following the same rules for the FP). This would mean you would be unable to play another version of a unique legendary card in your dead pile.
2) That there should be a trigger to prevent legendary cards from being discarded by other players, something like ’Each time this card is about to be discarded by another player, you may exert your character of the same culture to prevent that’ or ’... to take it into hand instead.’
What do you think of this? Could either or both rules be attached to the keyword?

I think the first rule is fine.
The second is fine but needs to be rigourously controlled. Too easy to prevent the discard and its too good, too hard and it ruins the legendary "status". Balance will be the key to implemeting this. |

Well, I kind of figured that the discard prevention would more or less balance the disadvantage of going to the dead pile. Does it?

I have no idea.
I just really don’t know what you should do with them. |

Perhaps a scalar keyword? Or one with varying costs? Like Legendary - allowing making the opponent add/remove in addition to any other costs in order to discard the card?
I’m also going to use this opportunity to post some simple companions. The first one I have a bit of a problem with name-wise, because there are two completely separate accounts to the origin of Amroth (the Elf after which Dol-Amroth is named). By one account, he is the son of Galadriel and Celeborn and became King of Lorien before dying when his parents took up the post. By the other, his father was Amdir, the King of Lorien, who died in the Last Alliance and so he became the new king. So, my problem is whether to call this first character Amroth or Amdir (because in the second tale, Amroth only comes into his own in the Third Age which is not true of the first). Certainly, Amdir is a later version of the story. Any preferences?
• Amdir, King of Lorien
Companion • Elf
Str: 7
Vit: 3
Res: 7
Archer. Stalwart - exert or heal a minion.
While you can spot 2 Elves, Amdir’s twilight cost is -1.
Naturally there are also serious divergences on the origins of Celeborn. Some accounts make him from Valinor, others one of the Dark Elves who never went to Valinor but stayed with his relative Elu Thingol, the King of Doriath in the First Age. Again I think the latter is later and more widely used and hence his subtitle. Any preferences for him?
• Celeborn, Kinsman of Thingol
Companion • Elf
Str: 6
Vit: 3
Res: 7
While you can spot Galadriel, Celeborn’s twilight cost is -1.
Maneuver: Exert Celeborn to heal another Elf bearing an artifact.
Maneuver: Exert Celeborn to choose an opponent who must discard their artifact from play.
• Celebrian, Daughter of Galadriel
Companion • Elf
Str: 3
Vit: 3
Res: 7
While you can spot Celeborn and Galadriel, Celebrian’s twilight cost is -1.
Fellowship: Exert Celebrian to take into hand an event from your draw deck.
She married Elrond, by the way, and left for the West some time in the Third Age I think.

As regards preferences on these guys i dont know HALF the background you do Thran, that sort of level of details is beyond what i have read, so it doesnt matter to me i cant say!

Hes fine but extremely bland and useless as far as i can see.

Companion • Elf

Maneuver: Exert Celeborn to choose one: heal an Elf bearing an artifact; or choose a Shadow player who must discard their artifact.
As you know im not fan of these "choose one" its sounds daft and i think the way D would have done this is just to put it down as 2 seperate maneuver options.

Companion • Elf
Str: 3
Vit: 3
Res: 7

Meh ok, gets more useless as the game goes on so is great early on for fetching much needed events then u can throw her under a bus! .

I have to say that I wasn’t happy with that Celeborn either. I wanted him to discard artifacts, but didn’t want to leave it as his only ability as it’s useless against many decks. Any thoughts on that?
Would increased twilight reduction or archer make Amdir more useful?
Also, glad you’re here - everyone else seems to have gone off. I can’t believe mine are the only active DC threads (Dain has been absent for a few days) and that my contest is the only active contest (apart from AP’s but he’s having trouble getting people to send in the cards) - that’s really crazy.

No probs Thran im on everyday monday to friday at work so no worries!
Even a further twilight reduction wouldnt help him as he doesnt have anything useful to use in a deck.
Just change celeborns abilities to 2 of them instead of one line and choose, he will be fine. |
