Spot Gandalf and a captured minion in your support area to reveal an opponent’s hand. Name a Shadow culture, and discard X cards of that culture from that player’s hand, where X is the number of captured minions of that culture in your support area.

I would raise the cost to , or make the naming of the Shadow culture be before the hand is revealed. |
I had to put something here. |

Think exerting an unwounded minion as well as the str modifier is bit strong, but i might be wrong. Id suggest just change it to exert that minion if its a

Not used to this new fangled "capturing" of yours Dain! But the gameplay of this is very nice. Id make it examine not reveal as in multiplayer thats just mean! And name the culture first.

Duo #175 has a pretty detailed summary of capturing and rescuing, if you’re still confused about it. I know some people don’t like it--especially capturing of companions--and I understand where they’re coming from. It IS pretty powerful. But I really think it will all balance out in the end and have proper, balanced counters for both sides.
I changed it to examining instead of revealing, and I’ll make them name the culture first (by spotting the captured minion), but then lower the cost back to .
Thanks, guys! |

Well, I’ve run out of steam with Gandalf a bit. Not saying I’m necessarily finished with him, but I can’t come up with any fresh ideas at the moment.
So let’s move on to some non-Wizard stuff. Like, say, Eagles! Enjoy.
•Gwaihir, Swiftest of the Great Eagles
Ally • Home 5 [LA] & 3 [FotR] • Eagle
Strength: 11
Vitality: 4
Signet: Gandalf
Unhasty. Damage +1. Muster.
Each time the fellowship moves, add .
Assignment: Exert your Wizard or discard 3 cards from hand to allow Gwaihir to be assigned to a skirmish.
Maneuver: Exert Gwaihir twice (or once if you can spot 2 Wizards) to rescue a captured companion or ally. Limit once per phase.
“‘...Gwaihir the Windlord...came unlooked-for to Orthanc; and he found me standing on the pinnacle. Then I spoke to him and he bore me away....’”
Similiar stats and cost to his Lasting Alliances versions, especially the other ally version King of All Birds, with which he shares the same first three lines of text (except for the addition of muster). But whereas the other pumps strength, this one is one of the best rescuing cards in the game. You can only use the ability once per turn, but still...a simple 2 exertions (or just one under the right circumstances) for a rescue is awesome, especially when you pair it with a powerful fighting ally like this. Oh, and for what it’s worth, this makes for another ally in my sets with a signet.
Eagle of the Mountains
Ally • [LA] & 3 [FotR] • Eagle
Strength: 8
Vitality: 3
Unhasty.
This ally gains each home site of each Eagle ally.
At the start of each maneuver phase, you may exert this ally to reveal the top card of your draw deck. If that card is a or card, you may take it into hand (and heal this ally if that card is a Wizard or Eagle).
“‘And the Eagles of the Mountains went far and wide, and they saw many things....’”
This simple ally ties together the old Eagles (Lasting Alliances’ Eagles) with the Eagles you’ll see from this point forward (almost exclusively Eagles). It has a nice cycling/healing ability, too.
•News Gathering
Condition • Support Area
Maneuver: Spot an Eagle to reveal the top card of your draw deck (limit twice per phase). Then you may exert that Eagle X times and discard this condition to take that card into your hand, where X is the twilight cost of the card revealed; otherwise return that card to the top of your draw deck.
“‘That was Gwaihir the Windlord....I sent him before me to watch the River and gather tidings.’” |

cut cost to 5 or 4.

I don’t follow what you mean by "or say 2". Clarification?
I can see reducing the cost of Eagle of the Mountains, but I think Gwaihir is okay as-is due to awesome abilities, easy fighting, and being a reviewer-approved cost for his other ally version. |
