I LOVE going head-to-head with AC. I think we’ve each won one now, so this is kind of a tiebreaker. |
Best regards, Dáin, Vice Aftokrator of the Chosen Ones
Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |

SoP, i think youre right, its an effort to wade through all the threads to vote for contests and then theres the effort of reading the entires and judging. If i wasnt a member of the Chosen Ones i wouldnt spend my time trawling for contests requring votes. Its a shame contests dont get more votes but there it is.

 • Thorin, Oakenshield
Companion • Dwarf
Strength: 7
Vitality: 4
Resistance: 5
Damage +1.
While you can spot a Dwarf and a non-Dwarf companion, Thorin’s twilight cost is -2.
Maneuver: Exert Thorin and spot X Free Peoples races (limit 4) to make X unbound companions strength +1 (or +2 if that companion is a Dwarf) until the regroup phase. Limit once per turn.
“‘To me! To me! Elves and Men! To me! O my kinsfolk!’ he cried, and his voice shook like a horn in the valley.”
Very powerful, too powerful for me 5.
 • Orcrist, Goblin-cleaver
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Bearer must be Thorin.
He is damage +1 and gains hunter 1.
Response: If Thorin wins a fierce skirmish, exert him twice (or once if you can spot an Orc in his skirmish) to discard a minion in that skirmish.
“‘I will keep this sword in honour. May it soon cleave goblins once again!’”
Sweet. 8.
 • Tom Bombadil, Oldest and Fatherless
Ally • Home 2
Strength: 14
Vitality: 9
To play, remove a burden or 2 threats.
Each companion is resistance +1.
Maneuver: Spot 2 companions and exert Tom Bombadil X times, where X is the fellowship’s site number, to remove a burden (limit twice per turn).
“‘Mark my words, my friends: Tom was here before the river and the trees; Tom remembers the first raindrop and the first acorn.’”
Underpowered and not very useful. 4.
 • Bard, The Bowman
Companion • Man
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
Archer. Muster. To play, spot a Man.
Archery: Exert Bard and add a threat to exert a minion; Bard does not add to the fellowship archery total. You may take the next archery action.
“‘I am Bard, of the line of Girion; I am the slayer of the dragon!’”
Needs a bit more on him besides what he has but not bad 6.
AnxiousChieftain
 •Halbarad, Kinsman of Aragorn
Companion • Man
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
Ranger. Hunter 1.
Response: If Aragorn is about to take a wound, exert Halbarad or add 2 threats to prevent that wound.
"’We seek one Aragorn son of Arathorn....’"
Cool enough though restricted to just gorn. 6.
 •Standard of the White Tree
Possession • Hand Weapon
Resistance +1
Bearer must be a Man.
If bearer is Halbarad, each Man is resistance +1.
Skirmish: Play this possession from your hand to make each companion who has resistance 7 or more strength +2 until the regroup phase.
"...instead of a spear he bore a tall staff, as it were a standard, but it was close-furled in a black cloth bound about with many thongs."
Really really cool card but lack of strength bonus means using it over other hand wepaons is risky. So 7.
 •Erkenbrand, Marshal of the West-mark
Companion • Man
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
Valiant.
When you play Erkenbrand (except in your starting fellowship), you may play a possession on him from your draw deck or discard pile.
Skirmish: If the Ring-bearer is assigned to a skirmish, exert Erkenbrand to make a Man strength +2.
"Amid them strode a man tall and strong."
Very good in fact cant fault it. 8.
 •Lugdush, Raider from Isengard
Minion • Uruk-hai
Strength: 8
Vitality: 2
Site Number: 5
Hunter 1. Fierce.
Each time Lugdush wins a skirmish, you may discard an unbound Hobbit. The Free Peoples player may exert a non- companion twice to prevent this.
"’Bind their legs!’"
Sweet but bit specific. 6
Think that makes AC the winner for me. |

I just tallied the votes, and found that SoP neglected to vote on one of AC’s cards.

Hunter 1. Fierce.
Each time Lugdush wins a skirmish, you may discard an unbound Hobbit. The Free Peoples player may exert a non- companion twice to prevent this.

Once SoP has voted (on a scale of 1- on this card, I will announce the winner.
And remember: 1st place gets a mint condition copy of Sauron, The Lord of the Rings and 5 .
2nd place will receive a mint condition copy of Freca, Hungry Savage and 3 . |

The first sentence is rather easy to pull off. Gimli, BoG and a man would do it quite handily. Excellent maneuver text, though. 8.

I don’t think the Response action would be very useful, given that most minions in that skirmish would be dead already. However, the rest of the weapon is very solid. Fear Thorin!! 7.

Useful? Eh...not exactly. Substitute "region" for "fellowship’s site", and you’ve got a good one. 6.

High cost, but I guess it’s balanced. Not bad. I might make it wound, but...7.

Yeesh! Against a pure Hobbit deck with no companion recursion, this would be terrible! 6 for the balance issues...I would make it "return to hand". |

Voting is over. The winner of the final round of the [reputedly] best DC contest [ever] in CC’s [venerable] history is...
[allegedly] AC!
AC has [supposedly] defeated his nemesis, the [decidedly-not-so] renowned DáinIronfoot by the score of 138.5 to 135.5.
As [reputed] winner of this [prestigious] and [highly] acclaimed DC contest, AC will receive an [assumed-to-be] mint condition copy of Sauron, The Lord of the Rings.
As [unofficial] holder of second place, Dáin will receive a [supposedly so] mint condition copy of Freca, Hungry Savage.
Congratulations, fellows, and thanks for competing!
I will also allow the option of my signature to be [personally] signed upon the named prizes, which will undoubtedly and [most] assuredly increase their values by an infinite number. |
I had to put something here. |
