I know its pedantic but id phrase it spot luthien (or 2 elves). Ok fair enough card.

Nice; risky but worth a shot at the gamble if it only cost less to play, id even make it cost 0 as the downside is horrific.

In a thread in the members lounge there was a poll run about daftest looking image from a card. Someone posted (think it was DI) that they thought lost in the woods looked like the nazgul was snapping his fingers so i said i hadnt noticed but now i thought about it, it did look like a rythmic ringwraith. El said if he ever got a custom subtitle he’d have to have that. I forgot about it til now, but he’s only gone and done it!

Taking a break from Beren and Luthien for a moment (I’ve been stricken by inspiration) let’s take a look at what else will be in this set. Silmarillion stuff, The Hobbit stuff, and the original stuff I promised in the first thread... which you all probably don’t remember. Also, probably some stuff from the 2nd age and a bit from The Fellowship of the Ring. But right now, I’m getting some good ideas for [moira]. I was looking through FotR for Balgy lore (for LH’s contest) and I just got inspired for some cards. So here they are! Oh, by the way, there’s gonna be a TON of cards here... but please review them anyways!
The Terror of the Mine
Condition
To play, spot a minion. Plays on an underground site. No player may play skirmish events or use skirmish special abilities at this site.
Shadow: Discard this condition to make the fellowship’s current site gain underground.
On all the others a dread fell at the mention of that name. Even to the hobbits it was a legend of vague fear.
He Watches All Roads
Event * Skirmish
Choose one: spot a minion to make a minion damage +1 until the regroup phase, or spot a minion to make a minion fierce until the regroup phase.
`We do not know what he expects,’ said Boromir. `He may watch all roads, likely and unlikely. In that case to enter Moria would be to walk into a trap, hardly better than knocking at the gates of the Dark Tower itself. The name of Moria is black.’
And now... we start a little on the wargs in this set.
Howling Like the Wind
Event * Shadow
Choose one: Play a Warg from your deck to add , or play an mount from your deck to make the Free Peoples player exert a companion.
Suddenly Aragorn leapt to his feet. ’How the wind howls! ’ he cried. ’It is howling with wolf-voices. The Wargs have come west of the Mountains! ’
Yes, there will be Warg minions AND mounts in this set.
Much Needed Haste
Event * Regroup
Spot 2 Wargs (or 3 mounts) to make the Free Peoples player move again this turn (if the move limit allows). If the Fellowship has already moved more than once this turn, spot 2 Wargs (or 3 mounts) to make the Free Peoples player place a companion in the dead pile.
’Need we wait until morning then? ’ said Gandalf. `It is as I said. The hunt is up! Even if we live to see the dawn, who now will wish to journey south by night with the wild wolves on his trail? ’
Made Much Worse
Discard an Orc assigned to skirmish a companion to play a Warg from your discard pile, it is twilight cost -X, where X is the twilight cost of that Orc. Then, you may assign that Warg to skirmish that companion.
’The wolf that one hears is worse than the orc that one fears.’
Howling and Prowling
Event * Shadow or Skirmish
If you play this event during the shadow phase, spot a Warg to play an or minion from your discard pile.
If you play this event during a skirmish phase, spot an Orc to make a Warg damage +1.
`But where the warg howls, there also the orc prowls.’
Weighing Fear
Condition
Strength: -1
Resistance: -1
To play, spot a Warg. Bearer must be an unbound companion. Limit one per bearer.
Response: If another condition is about to be discarded, discard this condition instead.
’These howls freeze my blood. I don’t ever remember feeling so wretched.’
*Wolfish Chieftain
Minion * Warg
Strength: 9
Vitality: 3
Site: 4
Fierce. Captain.
The twilight cost of each other Warg and mount is -1.
Skirmish: Exert this minion twice (or discard it) to play a Warg or mount from your discard pile.
At a gap in the circle a great dark wolf-shape could be seen halted, gazing at them. A shuddering howl broke from him, as if he were a captain summoning his pack to the assault.
*Entrapping Troop
Minion * Warg
Strength: 11
Vitality: 3
Site: 4
Fierce. Lurker.
Response: If another Warg loses a skirmish, you may exert Entrapping Troop to assign it to the winning companion (canceling Entrapping Warg’s skirmish if necessary) and begin a skirmish involving this minion and that companion.
Without warning a storm of howls broke out fierce and wild all about the camp. A great host of Wargs had gathered silently and was now attacking them from every side at once.
In the The Hobbit part of Rise of the Ring, some of the Goblins (the Warg-bearing ones) will be of the culture... and there will be more mounts. Eventually. Here’s some freeps cards from that part in the book (there’s a lot of stuff I never knew was in there!)
Gondorian Swordsmanship
Event * Fellowship or Skirmish
If this event is played during the fellowship phase, play a hand weapon from your draw deck.
If this event is played during the skirmish phase, wound a minion skirmishing a companion bearing a hand weapon.
Through the throat of one huge leader Aragorn passed his sword with a thrust; with a great sweep Boromir hewed the head off another.
Should have made stuff like this for the UDC... are you liking the or-if cards?
*Wizard’s Brand
Possession * Hand Weapon
Strength: +1
Spell.
Bearer must be a wizard. This possession may be borne in addition to one other hand weapon.
You may play this possession any time you could play a skirmish event.
While skirmishing an Orc or Warg, bearer is strength +1 and damage +1.
It flared with a sudden white radiance like lightning; and his voice rolled like thunder. "Naur an edraith ammen! Naur dan i ngaurhoth!" he cried.
A spell possession? What’ll that crazy vampire think of next?
*Bill the Pony, Fortunate Steed
Possession * Mount
Strength: +1
Resistance: +1
Bearer must be Frodo or Sam. Discard Bill the Pony while at an underground site.
Each time Bill the Pony is discarded, discard a Free Peoples possession to heal each companion.
`Poor old Bill! ’ said Frodo. `I had not thought of that. And poor Sam! I wonder what he will say? ’
Darkened Pools
Condition
Plays on the fellowship’s current site. It gains Marsh.
At the end of each turn, the Free Peoples player may add a threat to discard this condition.
Response: If the Fellowship Moves to a site, you may remove to transfer this condition to that site.
It was green and stagnant, thrust out like a slimy arm towards the enclosing hills... Frodo shuddered with disgust at the touch of the dark unclean water on his feet.
Not a Good Sign
Event * Response
If the fellowship moves during the regroup phase, you may play the next site if it is a marsh (replacing opponent’s site if necessary) to play a tentacle or The Watcher in the Water from your draw deck.
There came a soft sound: a swish, followed by a plop, as if a fish had disturbed the still surface of the water. Turning quickly they saw ripples, black-edged with shadow in the waning light: great rings were widening outwards from a point far out in the lake. There was a bubbling noise, and then silence.
More to come tomorrow, and then back to Beren and Luthien. |

Needs to say "no player" not neither as in multiplayer its daft. Cool though.

Suddenly Aragorn leapt to his feet. ’How the wind howls! ’ he cried. ’It is howling with wolf-voices. The Wargs have come west of the Mountains! ’
Cool again.

’Need we wait until morning then? ’ said Gandalf. `It is as I said. The hunt is up! Even if we live to see the dawn, who now will wish to journey south by night with the wild wolves on his trail? ’
"move again" not "move on", but nice, very nasty up its cost to 4.
Need to state what phase, and possibly rephrase it to replace that minion in the skirmish or assignment.
Nice.
 Wieghing Fear
Spelling mistake in title. Its ok, staple card.
Cool minion.
 Entrapping Troop
Minion * Warg
Strength: 11
Vitality: 3
Site: 4
Fierce. Lurker.
Assignment: If you can spot 6 companions, assign this minion to the Ring-bearer. The Free Peoples player may discard a companion to prevent this and assign Entrapping Troop.
Response: If another Warg loses a skirmish, you may exert Entrapping Troop to assign it to the winning companion.
Without warning a storm of howls broke out fierce and wild all about the camp. A great host of Wargs had gathered silently and was now attacking them from every side at once.
Excellent but not sure how the response text would work? Would he be assigned for the fierce skirmish, a seperate skirmish? Tricky.
Nice but possibly overpowered to wound something in the skirmish, add a drawback.
I see where your going with the spell possession thing and its not bad. Make it cost 1.
 *Bill the Pony, Fortunate Steed
Possession * Mount
Strength: +1
Resistance: +1
Bearer must be Frodo or Sam. Discard Bill the Pony while at an underground site.
Response: If Bill the Pony is discarded, discard a Free Peoples possession to heal each companion.
`Poor old Bill! ’ said Frodo. `I had not thought of that. And poor Sam! I wonder what he will say? ’
Hmmm ok.
Wow cool a site condition that follows you. Nice.
 Not a Good Sign
Event * Response
If the fellowship moves during the regroup phase, play a marsh site to play a tentacle or The Watcher in the Water from your draw deck.
There came a soft sound: a swish, followed by a plop, as if a fish had disturbed the still surface of the water. Turning quickly they saw ripples, black-edged with shadow in the waning light: great rings were widening outwards from a point far out in the lake. There was a bubbling noise, and then silence.
Need to rephrase it, "you may play the next site if it is a marsh (replacing opponents if necessary)". But cool.

Agree with lem0n. Pretty cool stuff, but I’d make it require spotting a couple cards to play.

lem0n’s right once again...drop the "on", and up the cost a little. "fellowship" should be lowercase, too.

Need a ";" instead of "," after "discard pile", and yes, this needs a phase (I assume skirmish).

Great!

Fierce.
The response ability needs to specify that it either cancels Entrapping Troop’s current skirmish, or needs to be limited to when it is not assigned to a skirmish. And the minion needs to be unique.

If this event is played during the skirmish phase, wound a minion skirmishing a companion bearing a hand weapon.
Through the throat of one huge leader Aragorn passed his sword with a thrust; with a great sweep Boromir hewed the head off another.
Another nifty event.

Heheh...brings back happy memories of another Flaming Brand. Up the cost to and exert bearer to play it.

Eh, just make bearer a Ring-bound Hobbit...I see no reason Bilbo shouldn’t be able to get in on the fun. I’d specify "discard another possession", just to avoid potential confusion/abuse.

It was green and stagnant, thrust out like a slimy arm towards the enclosing hills... Frodo shuddered with disgust at the touch of the dark unclean water on his feet.
"marsh", "fellowship", and "moves" should all be lowercase. But an awesome concept.

No "The" in "Watcher in the Water", believe it or not, and lem0n’s right about the other wording, once again.
for a very cool batch. |

Shadow: Discard this condition to make the fellowship’s current site gain underground.
On all the others a dread fell at the mention of that name. Even to the hobbits it was a legend of vague fear.
Not ’neither’, has to be ’no’ or it’s meaningless in multiplayer. Interesting.

`We do not know what he expects,’ said Boromir. `He may watch all roads, likely and unlikely. In that case to enter Moria would be to walk into a trap, hardly better than knocking at the gates of the Dark Tower itself. The name of Moria is black.’
Very interesting. I’d like to see it work, though.

Suddenly Aragorn leapt to his feet. ’How the wind howls! ’ he cried. ’It is howling with wolf-voices. The Wargs have come west of the Mountains! ’
The mount ability is too good, methinks. Maybe make the FP player. Interesting card.

Spot 2 Wargs (or 3 mounts) to make the Free Peoples player move on again this turn.
Need to add ’if the move limit allows’. I think it’s cost needs raising.
elf lvr wrote: Made Much Worse
Discard an Orc assigned to skirmish a companion to play a Warg from your discard pile, it is twilight cost -X, where X is the twilight cost of that Orc. Then, you may assign that Warg to skirmish that companion.
’The wolf that one hears is worse than the orc that one fears.’
Very cool. Might make it though.

`But where the warg howls, there also the orc prowls.’
Change it so that it looks like we must have it, rather than putting the phase at the top. It’s cool.

’One’ should be ’1’. Good one!

The twilight cost of each other Warg and mount is -1.

At a gap in the circle a great dark wolf-shape could be seen halted, gazing at them. A shuddering howl broke from him, as if he were a captain summoning his pack to the assault.
Are Wargs mostly fierce? Otherwise his ability ain’t that useful, and I also think he should have to be skirmishing to use it.

How can you assign in the skirmish phase? Do you fight again? And I think this cards needs some enforcement on it, lest its first ability be far far too good.

Make the response ’Each time’ or you will have a fully healed fellowship without too much bother for moving to an underground site. Interesting thought, though.
