Blast! I’m losing 3-0 already.
Good card, EL, and congrats on the trip to Round 5! |

1st Matchup: At first, I was disposed to vote for the second one. The first seemed... cluttered, or something. But looking at the second one closer... the more threats you add, the less chance of getting this guy to add a threat (sicne he’d be fierce), and the enduring seemed out of place with the rest of the stuff on the card. If I wanted a good enduring minion, I’d pick Thrall of the One, if I wanted a good threat minion, I’d have played Faster Than Winds. Also, #1 is original (if little too dependant on multi-culture) so I voted for it.
3rd Matchup: #1 gets my vote here. Nelya would be a lovely corruption card (Keening Wail, anyone?) or just all-around good for many purposes (toil, for example) and the assigning-to-the-ringbearer text is cool and not overpowered. The Otsea... doesn’t seem very towers- or king-ish with the region note, and overall is only usable with , which, while an interesting idea, is one that is extremely underdeveloped. |

Matchup 1: Entry #1 wrote: • Úlairë Attëa, Winged Predator
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 12
Vitality: 3
Site: 3
Fierce.
While you can spot 3 Free Peoples cultures (or 5 burdens), each companion skirmishing Úlairë Attëa loses all strength bonuses from possessions.
Each time Úlairë Attëa wins a skirmish, you may spot 3 Free Peoples cultures to make the Free Peoples player return an unbound companion to hand.
“It wheeled and went north, flying at a speed greater than any wind of Middle-earth. The stars fainted before it. It was gone.”
Interesting. It’s a little too complicated for my taste, and I would have either left out the parentheses or replaced the FP culture with burdens for the first ability.
Matchup 1: Entry #2 wrote: • Úlairë Cantëa, Winged Terror
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 10
Vitality: 3
Site: 3
Enduring.
While you can spot 3 threats, Úlairë Cantëa is fierce.
Regroup: Exert Úlairë Cantëa twice to add a threat (and discard a possession if you have initiative).
“Already men were breaking away, flying wild and witless here and there, flinging away their weapons, crying out in fear, falling to the ground.”
Very interesting, and I like it.
Entry #2 wrote: AUTHOR NOTE: Yes, he lacks the typical cannot-exert-during-skirmish text on purpose.
Obviously, because the only reason for that text is if you have a healing text during the skirmish phase creating a very nasty potential loop.
Matchup 2: Entry #1 wrote: • Úlairë Enquëa, Servant of Sauron
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 11
Vitality: 4
Site: 3
Fierce.
When you play Úlairë Enquëa, you may exert him and remove a threat to exert an unbound companion.
Maneuver: Spot 3 Nazgûl and discard a card from hand to make the Free Peoples player choose to either wound a companion bearing a condition or add a burden (limit twice per turn).
“‘His Nazgûl are still abroad. They passed over this field ere the sunrise....’”
I don’t like limits like that and he seems to be a bit too scattered. Fine if he’s doing threats, fine if he’s exerting people, fine if he adds burdens and fine if he likes conditions, but all 4 seems totally excessive.
Matchup 2: Entry #2 wrote: • Úlairë Attëa, Faster Than Winds
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 12
Vitality: 3
Site: 3
Fierce.
Each time Úlairë Attëa wins a skirmish, you may remove a threat to add a burden.
Skirmish: Exert Úlairë Attëa twice to make him strength +1 for each twilight token you can spot (limit +6).
“At his summons, wheeling with a rending cry, in a last desperate race there flew, faster than the winds, the Nazgûl the Ringwraiths....”
Not bad, but again very scattered.
Matchup 3: Entry #1 wrote: • Úlairë Nelya, Drawn By The One
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 10
Vitality: 3
Site: 2
Enduring.
Assignment: Heal Úlairë Nelya to assign him to the Ring-bearer. The Free Peoples player may make Úlairë Nelya fierce and damage +1 until the regroup phase to prevent this, and assign him.
“‘They’re here....They’ve come....’” [/quote]
Very interesting but possibly too powerful.
Matchup 2: Entry #2 wrote: • Úlairë Otsëa, Winged Shadow
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 9
Vitality: 3
Site: 3
Fierce.
While in region one or region two, Úlairë Otsëa cannot be assigned to a skirmish.
Assignment: Exert Úlairë Otsëa twice to play a Orc from your discard pile (or 2 Orcs if you can spot 6 companions). If you play Grishnakh, his twilight cost is -2.
“‘But the winged Nazgûl: not yet, not yet. He won’t let them show themselves across the Great River yet, not too soon. They’re for the War - and other purposes.’”
This is the most innovative of all the entries here, and reflects the Nazgul in the Two Towers exactly. The Nazgul were basically dead throughout that time, and pretty much the only thing they do in the whole book is deposit Grishnakh. And the fact that he can’t fight in the first 2 regions just makes so much sense, I don’t have any choice but to vote for this one (and it would make for an amazing theme to have a whole load of Nazgul that didn’t fight, but worked behind the scenes). It is, however, a little too much text, so I would find a way to remove the parentheses or the Grishnakh clause while keeping the balance.
Matchup 4: Entry #1 wrote: • Úlairë Attëa, Besieging Shadow
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 12
Vitality: 3
Site: 3
Fierce.
When you play Úlairë Attëa, you may exert him and remove a threat to make the Free Peoples player wound the Ring-bearer or add a burden.
Assignment: If you have initiative, discard a card from hand to assign Úlairë Attëa to a companion (except the Ring-bearer.) The Free Peoples player add two threats to prevent this.
“Ever they circled above the City, like vultures that expect their fill of doomed men’s flesh.”
This one’s a lot more focussed than some of the others and I like it - being very Return of the King.
Therefore, my votes go to:
1) #2
2) #2
3) #2

I DO have internet here, apparently, but I am officially out of town through Monday, so voting is extended through then. At least one of the matchups is pretty tight, so PLEASE vote if you haven’t already! |

As before, I have kept the exact author of card anonymous (though it’s a little easier to narrow down now! ). They are NOT necessarily in the same order as I listed the names. Please vote for your favorite from each matchup...and obviously, don’t vote in your OWN matchup, please.

Doesn’t have the enduring Nazzie feel, heal to do something.

Other than mutilating the wording, nice. Interesting take on the enduring Nazzies. But...what with Keening Wail and stuff, you get a fierce damage +2 Nazzie, and without the exert during skirmish phase, you can get a damage +4 Nazzie on the fierce. Toss in Shadowy Mount or Ring of Rancor (what enduring nazzie deck DOESN’T run Ring of Rancor?) and you’ve got something OP.
Entry #2:

More FotR than TT or RotK. I like it though. Complicated, though.
AgentDrake vs. macheteman:
No entry from mm here, so he is eliminated by default. Sorry, old friend.
Here is Drake’s winning entry:
 • Úlairë Attëa, Besieging Shadow
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 12
Vitality: 3
Site: 3
Fierce.
When you play Úlairë Attëa, you may exert him and remove a threat to make the Free Peoples player wound the Ring-bearer or add a burden.

“Ever they circled above the City, like vultures that expect their fill of doomed men’s flesh.”
Nice.
Man, Attëa seems to be all the rage, eh? No less than THREE of them! If more than one moves on, I may change them to a different Nazzie so my sets aren’t overloaded with Attëas. We’ll see how things go.
Again, please vote for your favorite from each matchup (except the last one, obviously ). I know we’re coming up on Christmas, so we’ll have a rather long voting period this time. Please get them in by next Thursday, December 27th by midnight, EST. If very few votes have trickled in by then, I may extend it into that weekend on the assumption folks are just out of town. We’ll see how it goes.

I don’t see the link between flavour text and game text. It is a powerful anti-rainbow Attea, but it just doesn’t seem that exciting to me. A splash Nazgul that can take apart rainbow is all well and good but do rainbow decks need the hate?
Entry #2:
•Úlairë Cantëa, Winged Terror
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 10
Vitality: 3
Site: 3
Enduring.
While you can spot 3 threats, Úlairë Cantëa is fierce.

“Already men were breaking away, flying wild and witless here and there, flinging away their weapons, crying out in fear, falling to the ground.”
As others have said, he doesn’t need the can’t exert in a skirmish text, since he doesn’t have a skirmish heal ability. I like this guy very much. He ties the RotK nazgul together nicely, taking into account Enduring, Threats and Initiative in the regroup phase. As Cantea should he hates possessions. I would probably rather have seen a different Nazgul other than Cantea, since he has such a good Threatgul persona already. However this card gets my vote.
Entry #1:
•Úlairë Enquëa, Servant of Sauron
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 11

Site: 3
Very funky entry. Has very Enquea like exerting, and a nice RotK subtheme of hurting companions with wraith conditions. Not sure of the flavour text, and perhaps it did not need quite so many clauses and parantheses but this is an interesting and different Nazgul.
Entry #2:
•Úlairë Attëa, Faster Than Winds
Minion • Nazgûl
Strength: 12
Vitality: 3
Site: 3
Fierce.

“At his summons, wheeling with a rending cry, in a last desperate race there flew, faster than the winds, the Nazgûl the Ringwraiths....”
The second ability is very Attea, and the first is an interesting twist on threatguls. It’s quite a clean card, though I would be tempted to try it without the limit since it requires two exertions (might be broken but would certainly be dramatic).
I vote:
