Cool. Thanks for the reviews, guys!

Well, after much internal debate, I decided that if Pippin has two versions in the set, then by golly, so should Merry. (The original version is way back on page 2.) So here he is!

1Merry, Sensible Hobbit Shire
Companion • Hobbit
Strength: 3
Vitality: 4
Signet: Gandalf
Regroup: If Merry is unwounded, exert him twice to play a Shire card (or, if you can spot Gandalf, a Gandalf card) from your draw deck.
“‘We can’t leave Frodo! Pippin and I always intended to go wherever he went, and we still do. But we did not realize what that would mean. It seemed different so far away, in the Shire or in Rivendell.’”

The original Merry (Inquisitive Conspirator) and Pippin (Steadfast Friend) had somewhat-related abilities. So, much like the second version of Pippin (Fool of a Took) this version of Merry centers around playing cards.

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!

Would you still like it is his ability was like this?

Maneuver: If Merry is unwounded, exert him twice to play a Shire card (or, if you can spot Gandalf, a Gandalf card) from your draw deck.

Nice. Very usable, but not overpowered.

Hah! I thought of a combo with him. Get him a hand weapon, and pump him up to vitality 6 with Escape and Little Golden Flower. Transfer Frodo Gamgee to him. Exert 6 times to play 3 cards, then when your follower transfers back, he dies. Falls of Rauros him, and play a new copy.

Oh, the abusablity!

But the card is balanced, it’s those darn Falls that are broken.

Actually, unless I messed something up, I designed it specifically so you can’t do that. His ability only works if he is unwounded, so unless you have a way to heal him twice during the maneuver phase, you can only use it once during that phase. A couple copies of Stout and Sturdy would do the trick, perhaps.
