I think I’ve hyped him enough...here’s THE Balrog! Twisted Evil Enjoy!

14The Balrog, Demon of the Ancient World Moria
Minion • Balrog
Strength: 17
Vitality: 5
Site: 5
Damage +1. Fierce.
While at an underground site, The Balrog gains hunter 1.
Maneuver: Exert The Balrog twice to play a Moria artifact on it from your draw deck (or exert it three times to play a Moria artifact on it from your discard pile).
“‘It was a Balrog of Morgoth, of all elf-banes the most deadly, save the One who sits in the Dark Tower.’”

13The Balrog, Nameless Terror Moria
Minion • Balrog
Strength: 13
Vitality: 5
Site: 5
Lurker. Enduring. Damage +1.
The Balrog may not be exerted by Shadow cards.
While at a battleground or underground site, The Balrog is fierce and each Moria Orc is strength +1.
Response: If an event is played (except during the regroup phase), heal The Balrog twice to cancel that event.
“‘It was both a shadow and a flame, strong and terrible.’”

We’ll be on the "theme" of the Balrog for a while still...we’ve got at least a dozen Balrog-related cards to get through still. Very Happy

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!

I would drop hunter 1. Thumbs Up

Enduring needs to be between Damage +1 and Fierce, but otherwise, he looks great! Very Happy
I had to put something here.

Just one review? Shocked I thought Ol’ Balgy would generate a LITTLE more interest....

Bah, who cares about those Wizard-battling, elf-slaying fire demons?

Well, I do! So here’s a review!

P.S. That rhymed.

A Hunter Balrog? That’s nice. And... it’s my favorite Balrog ever. Just for that avility. I think it needs to be twice from discard, three from deck on those exertions, but that’s just me. Usually, it’s harder to play cards from your deck than from your discard pile.

I want this guy to be enduring! Razz Like him a lot, but is there any particular reason why you’ve changed the Balrog’s site number? Also, I might drop the hunter or damage bonus, or make one of them conditional to underground sites.

This guy rocks, but for his Orc ability, I want him to be a lurker, maybe instead of being fierce? Also, I want him to be better than normal at underground sites.

Wow awesome, i like that. Shame theres no way to wound him apart from archery.

Dain can you do me a huge favour and refrain from doing anything beyond possessions and artfifacts for the Rog or its gonna mess up my DC Contest forthcoming rounds! Please? Hiatus? Just until its over?

Hmmm. Well as it turns out, there IS one Moria subculture I completely forgot about until a couple days ago, so I COULD switch to them for a little while, but I’d be loathe to switch gears like that....

I’m out most of the day today, but we’ll talk about it soon. Send me a PM and let me know why it would screw up the contest, and we’ll see. Okay? Smile

In the meantime, I’ve tweaked both versions of Ol’ Balgy according to suggestions. Let me know what you think.

And here’s The Balrog’s stuff, which, of course, work especially well with Demon of the Ancient World. Twisted Evil Enjoy!

1The Balrog’s Sword, Stabbing Tongue of Fire Moria
Artifact • Hand Weapon
Strength +3
Bearer must be The Balrog.
This weapon may be borne in addition to 1 other hand weapon and may be played any time you could play a skirmish event.
At the start of each skirmish involving The Balrog, you may remove a burden or discard this weapon to wound each companion in that skirmish.
“From out of the shadow a red sword leaped flaming.”

1Whip of Many Thongs, Shrouded in Fire Moria
Artifact • Hand Weapon
Bearer must be The Balrog.
It is fierce and gains hunter 1.
When this weapon is played or discarded, you may exert a companion (except for the Ring-bearer).
“With a bound the Balrog leaped full upon the bridge. Its whip whirled and hissed.”

Pair this with Demon of the Ancient World’s ability to play during the maneuver phase for some real fun. Twisted Evil

Methinks the second one needs to be 14 now. Good stuff, though.

Unbelievably solid (though I’d probably take out the removing a burden clasue), as long as you realise that that lore text was used on the countdown collection version of the balrog’s sword (I know that because I used it in lem0n’s DC contest!)

Great, but I think fierce as well as all that other stuff is a bit much!
