You can return Pippin to your hand, and then if there ia a roaming minion you must wound him twice. If there isn’t a roaming minion, his effect does nothing yet you can still return him to your hand. If there is a roaming minion in play, you cannot choose to return him to your hand and not wound a roaming minion twice.
