To play, spot a unique Gondor Man.
Response: If Estelmo is about to be killed, wound another Man to discard him instead.
He was the squire to Isildur’s eldest son Elendur, and was knocked to the ground and left for dead by Orcs in that awful battle.

He seems a little underpowered; maybe give him hunter 1? Think

I did the next best thing. How’s is he now?

Perfect! Smile

Excellent! Thanks, guys! You make me proud to be a Chosen One with the likes of you all. Smile

Dáin’s DC Duos #131

Isildur and his men may have lost the battle at the Gladden Fields, but it certainly wasn’t for lack of hard fighting. They slew many Orcs before they succumbed to the sheer numbers of the enemy, using some really cool tactics that Tolkien takes the time to describe. Since that’s something the great author does so rarely, I figured those specific tactics deserved some DC recognition. So here they are...enjoy!

7 Thangail Gondor
Event • Archery or Skirmish
Toil 2.
Spot 3 Men bearing shields to prevent each companion from taking wounds until the assignment phase (or the regroup phase if played during a skirmish).
“...a shield-wall of two serried ranks that could be bent back at either end if outflanked, until at need it became a closed ring.”

6 Dírnaith Gondor
Event • Skirmish
Toil 2.
Exert each minion assigned to skirmish a Man bearing a shield or hand weapon.
“...a wedge-formation, launched over a short distance against an enemy massing but not yet arrayed, or against a defensive formation on open ground.”

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!

I would raise the cost to 7 or make it just toil 1. Cool idea! Thumbs Up

Done and done again. Thanks! GPs to you both for such speedy reviews...as soon as I’m able to give them.

Oh, what the heck. Those reviews were so fast, I’ll post another Duo already while I still have such fine reviewers logged in. Very Happy

Dáin’s DC Duos #132

Both of those tactic events in the last Duo dealt with weapons or shields. But so far, the only Gondor weapons we’ve seen in the set are unique. Where’s the generic sword of the early Gondorians? And do they get a new shield? Scroll down for answers, and enjoy! Smile

1 Númenórean Sword Gondor
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Bearer must be a Gondor Man.
If bearer is a knight or is at a battleground, he or she is damage +1.
“Swords the Guild of Weaponsmiths still made, for the preservation of the craft....”

A direct knock off of Gondorian Blade, but certainly useful with a whole different kind of fellowship. Smile

1 Shield of Númenór Gondor
Possession • Shield
Bearer must be a Gondor Man.
Archery: Exert bearer or discard this possession to make the minion archery total -1 and prevent all wounds to bearer until the skirmish phase.
Response: If bearer is about to be overwhelmed, discard this possession to wound bearer instead.

The first Gondor shield since Boromir’s Shield way back in Mines of Moria, this makes Thangail and Dírnaith click. It might seem to far outshine Great Shield, but keep in mind that Great Shield is bearable by ANY Man and gives a perma-archery reduction instead of having to exert for it. I think there’s room for both of them to exist together. How about you?

Best Gondor card so far! GP

Fixed, though my solution is pretty wordy. Got any other, better suggestions?

I’d rather not, because when executed in the story, it’s the shields and swords that are used in the attack, not armor.

Is it? I was following the text of Gondorian Sword. I’m pretty sure I have it correct.

Thanks for the reviews! Very Happy
