Not for us it’s not. Here, it’s broadcast by AXN in Cable TV, on Mondays. But we’re behind the US, since the 3rd season has just started (btw, there’s a brazillian actor doing it now, the same one from 300, too bad he’s probably going to die anytime soon in the show). |

Rodrigo Santoro? Yeah, up here in the U.S. Rodrigo and Kiele, the new characters known as Paulo and Nikki have recieved a lot of criticism. I don’t mind them that much.
Just so you know, if you don’t like the first few episodes, it starts to pick up around Episode 11. Most people didn’t like the episodes before then, but it was worth the wait. I’m heading into Episode 16 next week and it’s really good.
By the way, if you want to get ahead of your broadcasting, go to http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing.
Last I checked they had all of this season’s episodes free to watch on that site (legal, of course). Hmm...it’s only Episode 12 and on now...rats. Oh well, worth a try. |

Ok, time for the ball to get rolling! First one on the line, this time, is thonnas7! Comments will be made after each card, then after the cycle, and a generic one at the end. Grades will go as such, with a small twist: the cycle’s grade will be its general grade as a cycle plus the average of the individual grades, divided by 2.
Rare + Cycle:
 •Army of Rhun
Companion • Man
Strength: 15
Vitality: 4
Site Number: 4
To play, spot 2 Men.
At the start of each skirmish involving a minion, you may exert this minion and remove to exert a companion.
Easterling warriors wore armor of shining silver.
Rare +
Card comment: All I can say is that this is a pretty well-made card, but I find it "meh" for a R+. Where is the oomph? It costs too much, it’s not worth its cost for the strength, and it’s certainly not worth it for the ability...
Grade: 7.0
 •Army of Mordor
Companion • Orc
Strength: 15
Vitality: 4
Site Number: 4
To play, spot 2 minions.
At the start of each skirmish involving a minion, you may exert this minion and remove 2 burdens to exert a companion.
Sauron’s army from Mordor were bred from the Orc pits, making them the largest army ever seen.
Rare +
Card comment: Same as the first one.
Grade: 7.0
 •Army of Isengard
Companion • Uruk-hai
Strength: 15
Vitality: 4
Site Number: 4
To play, spot 2 minions.
At the start of each skirmish involving a minion, you may exert this minion and remove 2 threats to exert a companion.
“So it begins. The greatest battle of our time.”
Rare +
Card comment: Ditto, although I DID like the hint on site number, having it lowered to better fit the cycle. Really interesting, and well fitting for the task.
Grade: 7.5
Cycle comment: I liked how the cycle came together, the small nuances pointing to how tight you meant this cycle to be. I’m just sad that the cards making up the cycle are so poor.
Cycle grade: 10
Task grade: 8.58
Rare Cycle:
Lothlorien Dug-out
Possession • Support Area
To play, spot an Elf.
While the fellowship is at a river site, the minion archery total is -1.
Fellowship or Regroup: Discard this possession to play the fellowship’s next site.
The boats from Lothlorien traveled silently on the river Anduin.
Rare
Card comment: I’m not too keen on classifying this as a possession, as such cards are usually better fit as conditions. I see where you got the idea from, but you see, it’s one thing to call, say, Bag-End a possession, and a TOTALLY different thing to call something made by the elves as such, they’d NEVER classify anything from nature as their possession. Also, I don’t know, isn’t non-uniqueness a bit too powerful forthis card? You completly hose an archery shadow for no cost at all...
Grade: 6.0
Fishing Boat
Possession • Support Area
To play, spot Smeagol or Deagol.
While the fellowship is at a river site, followers may be transferred without paying aid costs.
Fellowship or Regroup: Discard this possession to play the fellowship’s next site.
”I think I caught one!”
Rare
Card comment: THIS one I liked! Pretty cool card! However, it has come to my attention that it’s an already existing title, so I’ll have to knock down the grade for that.
Grade: 4.0
Brandywine Raft
Possession • Support Area
To play, spot a Hobbit.
While the fellowship is at a river site, Hobbits may not skirmish minions with a strength higher than 8.
Fellowship or Regroup: Discard this possession to play the fellowship’s next site.
“Mr. Frodo, jump!”
Rare
Card comment: Now this card could get dangerous, with all the site manipulation already available, plus the ones you’re creating. Perhaps you SHOULD let the Ring-bearer skirmish (this does not cancel his skirmish, so the glitch to keep him safe works), or limit HIS prevention by region. Or even the whole ability. As it is, it’s just begging to be abused. I like dthe flavor you thought of when doing it, though.
Grade: 9.0
Cycle comment: I just loved the idea of a bot cycle! Pretty cool. I just thought that you made that small mistake with the first one, maybe trying to "force" the cycle to be a tight one, and remember, you already did a cycle for the sole reason of being a tight one, no need to MAKE the others like that, too. Specially since here, you get to SAY "look, this is my cycle", we don’t have to figure it out. ONE condition could fit into this cycle without disrupting it.
Cycle grade: 9.0
Task grade: 7.67
An Uncommon Cycle:
Rebellious Warrior
Minion • Man
Strength: 9
Vitality: 3
Site Number: 3
Fierce.
While you can spot 2 other Men, this minion is an archer and damage +1.
The dunlendings were rallied off the calls of their companions.
Uncommon
Card comment: OUCH! I like the prospect of playing 3 of these at once, while the card not being overpowered on and off itself. It’s always good to give some oomph to the budget players! Cool one! I’m just worried with the HUGE vitality this guy have, Dunland is kept in control because of the low vitality. Give them good minions wh’re also wound-sponges, and they could get out of hand easily. Careful.
Grade: 9.5
Uruk-hai Warrior
Minion • Uruk-hai
Strength: 9
Vitality: 3
Site Number: 3
Damage +1.
While you can spot 2 other Uruk-hai, this minion is an archer and fierce.
Uruk-hai travel in battalions as their strength is in numbers.
Uncommon
Card comment: Cool, again! And this one is really nice. Nothing to say about it.
Grade: 10
Morgul Warrior
Minion • Orc
Strength: 9
Vitality: 3
Site Number: 3
Archer.
While you can spot 2 other Orcs, this minion is a fierce and damage +1.
The Orcs from Minas Morgul had few elite, as they did not fight often.
Uncommon
Card comment: Another cool one, but perhaps a bit too strong for the culture he’s in.
Grade: 9.8
Cycle comment: i LOVED how you made each minion turn into one another when conditions were mete, so that they were unique in a sense, but turned out into the very same minion after all. However, same problem here, you’re too eager to make your cycle as tight as possible, and that sometimes compromises your work. However, this one had a really cool purpose from a designer’s point of view (for instance, seeing if the players would get that those were the same minion), so I won’t knock down your grade on this one.
Cycle grade: 10
Task grade: 9.88
A Cycle of Conditions:
•There Is No Other Way
Condition • Support Area
While you can spot a companion with a resistance of 2 or less, Gollum is strength +3.
Regroup: Exert Gollum and discard this condition to force the fellowship to move again (if the move limit allows) and make the fellowship player discard 4 cards from hand.
“Now that I’m here, I’m not sure I want to go in.”
Uncommon
Card comment: Can you say "broken"? Ninja Gollum has just gotten an almost automatic kill condition for no cost whatsoever!
Grade: 6.0
•Take Back Your Lands!
Condition • Support Area
While you can spot a companion with a resistance of 2 or less, each minion is fierce.
Regroup: Exert 2 minions and discard this condition to force the fellowship to move again (if the move limit allows) and to make all sites gain plains until the end of the turn.
“They drove you into the hills…”
Uncommon
Card comment: Ok, you’re really into getting a whole cycle banned soon after release, then... Too bad...
Grade: 6.0
•Hordes From Mordor
Condition • Support Area
While you can spot a companion with a resistance of 2 or less, each time a companion is exhausted, add a burden.
Regroup: Exert 2 minions and discard this condition to force the fellowship to move again (if the move limit allows) and add 2 burdens.
“A battle brews before us.”
Uncommon
Card comment: Yep, that’s what you’re after alright.
Grade: 6.0
Cycle comment: This cycle is WAY too overpowered to ever see printing. The first card is an auto-win for Ninja Gollum decks, the second one is an auto-win for Raiders, and the last one is the farthest from an auto-win, but it still means basically 8 burdens added for free! Too broken, all of them. You DID complete the task of making a cycle of Conditions, but this one would never leave the sheets.
Cycle grade: 8.0
Task grade: 7.0
A Tight Cycle:
Aid From the North
Event • Fellowship
If you cannot spot an Elf, play an Elf from your draw deck or discard pile.
“There once was an alliance between elves and men. We come to honor that alliance.”
Uncommon
Card comment: Any elf? Wow... should’ve been a rare, if not for the smart fact that it only works well with splashes. Great thinking, and good idea. The fact that it also let’s you recover your precious splash, should it get lost for some reason, is just icing on the cake, really neat design.
Grade: 10
Aid From the West
Event • Fellowship
If you cannot spot a Man, play a Man from your draw deck or discard pile.
“Rohan will answer!”
Uncommon
Card comment: Same here.
Grade: 10
Aid From the Downs
Event • Fellowship
If you cannot spot a Hobbit, play a Hobbit from your draw deck or discard pile.
It was discovered that in their times of trouble, the shirefolk were able to bind together their strength unto victory.
Uncommon
Card comment: Same on this one, although it may be a little harder to pull off... Should have made it about Dwarves or some other thing...
Grade: 9.5
Cycle comment: All I can say is, very well done cycle, with a little unhappy choice in the last minute.
Cycle grade: 9.8
Task grade: 9.82
A Loose Cycle:
Caught a Fish
Event • Skirmish
Discard 2 cards from hand to heal Gollum.
“…caught a fish, so juicy sweet…”
Common
Card comment: Cool. Balanced, well fit for a common, and greatly put together, although a little too hurtful to pull off.
Grade: 9.5
Banners of the East
Event • Skirmish
Discard 2 cards from hand to make a minion bearing a possession strength +2.
The banners of the Rhun warriors were strange and battle-worn.
Common
Card comment: Again, fitting for a common.
Grade: 9.5
They Will Kill the Carrier
Event • Skirmish
Discard 2 cards from hand to exert a companion skirmishing a Nazgul.
“…and kill the one who carries it.”
Common
Card comment: And yet another fine choice.
Grade: 9.5
Cycle comment: I loved the cycle, it falls very well into the losse cycle, although you could have altered their cost, or made the cards as being a possession, a condition and an event, for instance. This cycle is still too tight. Also, the cards are too hurtful, I don’t picture a lot of players wanting to play them, not even budget ones. They’d rather play another minion or do something else than losing THREE cards at once for a meager effect...
Cycle grade: 8.0
Task grade: 8.75
A Multi-cultural Cycle:
•Servants From the East
Condition • Support Area
Shadow: Spot a minion and exert either an minion or a Nazgul to play a possession from your discard pile. It’s twilight cost is -1. (Limit once per turn).
Regroup: Exert a minion and discard this possession to add 2 threats.
One of the Dark Lord’s more trusted alliances were with those from Rhun.
Uncommon
Card comment: Cool! Perhaps it’s a little too complicated for an uncommon, as they should INTRODUCE trickyness rather than being all tricky themselves (we covered this concept before, remember?), but still very nice. Also, for a unique condition, and one fitting into an already "messy" by definition multicultural shadow, it shouldn’t have a limit, or at least the limit should be once per shadow phase.
Grade: 8.5
•Servants From Cirith Ungol
Condition • Support Area
Shadow: Spot an minion and exert either a minion or a Nazgul to make an minion damage +1 until the regroup phase. (Limit once per turn).
Regroup: Exert an minion and discard this possession to take an event into hand from your discard pile.
“This one’s still alive.”
Uncommon
Card comment: Same as before, but with CERTAINTY that the limit should be one per shadow phase. No limit would by it a passport to banishment quicker than you-know-what.
Grade: 9.0
•Servants From the Past
Condition • Support Area
Shadow: Spot a Nazgul and exert either an minion or a minion to add a burden. (Limit once per turn).
Regroup: Exert a Nazgul and discard this possession to take a Nazgul from play back into hand.
“Nine rings for men, who above all else, desire power.”
Uncommon
Card comment: This one ended up turning out to be the more balanced of the bunch, due to the limit.
Grade: 9.2
Cycle comment: Now, this cycle would’ve been most fun, weren’t it SO tight. Of course the wording on the cards would bind it together nicely, so there was no need to keep the abilities themselves so close to one another.
Cycle grade: 8.9
Task grade: 8.9
An On-culture Cycle:
•Fortress of Dol Guldur
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot a Nazgul.
Each time a Nazgul wins a skirmish, you may exert that Nazgul twice to add a threat.
After his defeat the Dark Lord resided in the old fortress of Dol Guldur for a time.
Rare
Card comment: Really cool!
Grade: 10
•Fortress of Minas Morgul
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot a Nazgul.
Each time a Nazgul wins a skirmish, you may exert that Nazgul twice to add a burden.
Long ago, Gondor lost the fortress that is now known as Minas Morgul.
Rare
Card comment: Maybe a bit overpowered? No cost at all, just slam it down and be happy adding some MORE burdens? Hum...
Grade: 8.0
•Fortress of Angmar
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot a Nazgul.
Each time a Nazgul wins a skirmish, you may exert that Nazgul twice to wound an unwounded companion.
At one time the Witch-King ruled the land of Angmar..
Rare
Card comment: Really cool, again, but didn’t need to be a rare.
Grade: 8.5
Cycle comment: I liked the cycle’s conceiving idea, I just didn’t like the rarity of the cards, and that second card’s cost... But other than this, a perfectly fine job.
Cycle grade: 9.0
Task grade: 8.92
FINAL COMMENTS: All I can say is taht I’m a little disappointed with thonnas7’s submission, as I hold him as one of the best competitors. He ended up doing too much work without the need, since if you check closely, A LOT of his cycles fulfill A BUNCH of tasks all at once, and that’s what I meant when I said the amojnt of work would depend on how cleverly you faced the challenge. Also, since he ended up making a bunch of cycles, and made them ALL too tight (even the loose one), the submission turns out boring at some point, since you already know what you’ll be getting, or at least a big part of it. Of course, he’s still a very good card maker (yep, from now on, you’re not just a DC maker anymore, you’re fit to make real cards wirth ease, as long as you have a team reviewing them, of course) so he got good grades, but he could still be knocked down by someone on this challenge. Let’s see how that turns out from now on... I’m knocking down 1.6 points of his FINAL grade (yep, you read it right) for not noticing how he could’ve performed better (after all, mistakes happen when designers work too much, and you COULD have avoided overdoing it with a little more wit) AND for the tightness of his cycles.
FINAL GRADE: 7.090 (and yet another gp!) |

I wondered about making the cycles too tight, but I guess I was just having too much fun.
Oh well, I still got a worthy grade, so I’m happy with myself. I’ll be coming up with the challenge in a bit. |

It has come to my attention (sorry, but you guys can figure from all the comments made and such that grading this challenge is breath-taking) only now that Fishing Boat is already a card title. Forthis, I changed thonnas7’s grade accordingly, and his final grade was lowered by 0.125 as consequence of the new grade. Sorry for letting that slip past my guard before. |

Yeah, same on this account. I didn’t check card titles and spotted it, but figured you’d just allowed it.
Anyways, yeah, I’ll make that my one challenge then.
There are two different Orc Pursuers (one from BoHD and one from RotK), but they have different texts.
