Dáin’s DC Duos #134

Here’s a couple more powerful skirmish-boosters for those Númenóreans. Enjoy!

7 Meeting the Storm Gondor
Condition • Support Area
Toil 2.
Each Gondor Man is defender +1.
Each Orc and Man skirmishing a Gondor Man is strength -1.
At the start of the regroup phase, exert each Gondor Man or discard this condition.
“He gathered as large a force as he could, and taking command of it himself made ready as swiftly as might be....”
It seems okay. With a large defender bonus, companions stand to take plenty of wounds, and it will be hard to exert each Gondor man. Seems balanced to me.

I know defender bonuses given en masse are a big no-no. But I wanted to see if I could make a balanced card that did it anyway. How’d I do?

1 War-hardened Gondor
Condtion • Support Area
Each time a Gondor Man wins a skirmish and you cannot spot 3 tokens on this conditon, you may exert that Man to add a Gondor token here.
Skirmish: Remove a token here to make a Gondor Man strength +2.
“With Isildur went his three sons... and his Guard of two hundred knights and soldiers, stern men of Arnor....”
It seems really cool. Although, it would be easy to have less than 3 tokens on that card, if the tokens provide the strength boost needed to win skirmishes. But with the exertion cost, it seems balanced. Could get deadly with a ton of token reinforcement, though...

Every now and then, we humble DC makers make a card that, humble as we try to be, we can’t help but smile about. This is one of those cards. I’m proud of it. It might be my favorite Gondor card I’ve made in ALL of my sets thus far. I don’t know WHY I like it so much, I just do. How about you? (Hey, that rhymes!)

Does it need further tweaking then? And if so, any suggestions?

Okay, I can do that.

Yoiks. Good catch(es). Embarassed

As for casualties, it was simply an "untold" number of Orcs, but it was said to be up to 10 times the numbers of Númenóreans. There were about 200 Men, so you’re looking at roughly 2,000 Orcs. Not too shabby for those early Gondorians, especially considering they were unprepared for battle, weary from days and days of travel, and had the low ground with their backs to the swelled Anduin River.

Hm...maybe increase the limit to 5.

Dáin’s DC Duos #135

More skirmishing cards for the early Gondorians. But this time, it shows their close ties to their Last Alliance allies: the Elves. Enjoy!

0 Muster of the Númenóreans Gondor
Event • Skirmish
Make a Gondor companion strength +2 (and exert a minion if you can spot an Elf companion).
“...the Númenóreans were strong and tall, and terrible in their wrath.”

5 United Gondor
Condition • Support Area
Tale. For each Gondor and Elven character you exert when playing this, its twilight cost is -2.
If an Elf is about to take a wound that would kill him or her, exert a Man companion to prevent that wound.
“...they perceived that Sauron was too strong and would overcome all his enemies one by one, if they did not unite against him.”

I wanted this to have toil, as many of these powerful Gondor cards have had, but I wanted it to work for Elves, too. I was racking my brain about how to make that work without changing the rules of the game, and then it hi me: why not just write out what toil allows, and throw Elves in there along with Gondor Men? So the end result is wordy, but it also works like a charm. Smile

The Elves have virtual copies of both of these cards, by the way (which we’ll get to another time), so there could be some serious Gondor/Elven partnership going on. Very Happy

By the way, we are simply FLYING through these Gondor cards since I got back. There’s only a couple more Duos to go!

Like I said, the Elves have a card that pretty much IS a vice-versa. You’ll just have to wait until we get to them. Razz
