That’s what initially got my attention.
Definitely a good image. |
Riddle 9
When I came to Abraham I let him live just a moment longer. When I came to Moses I saved his life more than once. But the salmon... I regret to say I had a hand in its death.

Falls of Rauros might just be the first spoiled card from RoS to stand up and make me pay attention.
Why?
Because it not only supplants the Rule of Nine, but also that of uniqueness.
Where many popular fellowships have gotten to the point of absurdity with their willingness to throw out twilight ad nauseum (Ents, especially, along with Elves of both the archer and fortune telling pursuasion, and Rohan in the second tier), old fashioned choke has had to get by with pump redundancy, a wing, and a prayer. Running four or fewer companions has become a real issue as of late, even though anyone that’s been playing at length wants to keep the count low. Fewer companions mean less twilight, a stronger pump core (when in conjunction with the right set of companions) and generally a lower need for support cards. Not to mention the ability to showcase the massive stregnths of particular sites- Caras Galadhon, Anduin Banks, and City Gates all call for compact fellowships, and can be gamebreakers against the right opposition.
The problem lies in safety. A four pack of companions can soak a hell of a lot fewer wounds than seven or nine. Given that the most basic companion can take three wounds before dying, one can spread out the archery lovin’ for quite a while before being forced to drop a spare Rider, Huorn, or Ranger. They might take more threats, but they are able to soak them up in the tradeoff.
Falls of Rauros breaks this trend by giving a small fellowship a chance. Case in point- basic Hobbits. Run Frodo (your choice) as the starting ringbearer. Let’s say he gets beat down early on. Takes burdens out the ying yang from some insane draw that an orc player got. Sack Frodo, and give Sam the Ring. What’s that? Falls of Rauros, you say? Hello Frodo, Frenzied Fighter. The runt is back, pissed, a finger short, and all out of pad and pencil to take names with.
The options are limitless. A lot of players have given much thought to a Three Hunters fellowship, with the bearer of your choice, but have had to watch their best laid plans be blown apart on site two by a silly Shadow draw. I myself recently walked four sites with just Frodo, Legolas, and Aragorn after a Crusher got a lucky pump kill on Gimli at 2. The Falls would have been a godsend in a deck made to (ab)use it; all it requires is a touch of redundancy that one can justify with an always handy discard to heal.
Nelya just got more stupid than ever, and I like it. Walk first, Aragorn exerts for Well-Travelled, Caras Galadhon. Something goes wrong early, Falls. Nelya, exert, Homestead, Nazgul, exert again, your choice. Wash, rinse, repeat. Now, if they had only taken the initiative and given us something like "No Stranger to the Shadows", or some real choke setup outside of Hobbits, you could use Confronting the Eye with Thorongil and just make it outright rude. |

wow. I love how wonderfully splashable this Gandalf is... supersweet for token decks, and so easy to throw in along with some condition removal, nice! |

Grr, they made a typo in Merry’s lore. They typed Pippen instead of Pippin. |

Hopefully that’s the only place where that error will show up. That would be awful if the designers for RoS actually thought that his name was Pippen.
Feral Ride is so cool! Wargs are coming!
And THANK YOU MENACE for that great Gandalf. He’ll be going into my deck. |
