Hey, alright! Two first-time reviewers. Thanks, EL and Anvar. A for both of you.

Gollum is strength +1 for each card stacked here.
Maneuver: Stack a card (except a minion) or Shadow possession here (limit 3).
Shadow: Remove to take a card stacked here into hand.
“...fishbones, goblins’ teeth, wet shells, a bit of bat-wing, a sharp stone to sharpen his fangs on, and other nasty things.”
Looks pretty good! You need to specify where to stack the card FROM, although I assume you meant from your hand. I like the card, but I think it could be unique. It might be too powerful with 4 out. That could be +12 strength and the ability to take any of those cards back into hand. For example, I’d always use this with They Stole It to get tons of cards to discard.
Anvar wrote: You need to say where to stack the cards from. Also limit 3 means that you can only stack 3 cards here per phase, but without a limit overall. If you mean that it can only have 3 cards, it needs to say Maneuver: If you can’t spot three cards stacked here, stack a...
Otherwise this looks fun and potentially powerful.
Good combo idea, EL! That COULD be fun.
I made some fixes: made it unique, specified that the stacking is from hand, and fixed the wording so it’s an overall limit of 3 cards.
Thanks again to both of you. It’s always encouraging to draw new (to the Duos, at least) reviewers in.
I’ll give a little more time for another review or two, if anyone is so inclined. Then I’ll post some FP cards this afternoon. |

Gollum is strength +1 for each card stacked here.
Maneuver: Spot less than 3 cards here to stack a card (except a minion) or Shadow possession here from hand.
Shadow: Remove to take a card stacked here into hand.
“...fishbones, goblins’ teeth, wet shells, a bit of bat-wing, a sharp stone to sharpen his fangs on, and other nasty things.”
it does the job.its somewhat dubious whether all that would fit on a card. maybe make it limit +3 and cut from Spot to to.
 • Gollum’s Boat
Possession • Support Area
Gollum is vitality +1.
Each time Gollum wins a skirmish, add a token here (or 2 tokens if that skirmish involved a Ring-bound companion).
Shadow: Remove 2 tokens from here to play Gollum from your draw deck or discard pile.
“He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake....He paddled it with large feet dangling over the side, but never a ripple did he make.”
I like it.
Cross It Is
Event • Shadow
Exert Gollum to play a possession from your draw deck. Unless the Ring-bearer is a Hobbit, that possession’s twilight cost is +1.
“‘...impatient, precious. But it must wait, yes it must. We can’t go up the tunnels so hasty. We must go and get some things first, yes, things to help us.’”
again good. it might be simpler to make it twilight cost 1, and if the ring-bearer is a hobbit, its twilight cost is -1. |

That’s exactly what I originally had, actually, but as Anvar pointed out, that could be pretty ambiguous and accidentally be interprited as limit 3 per phase.
I considered dropping the spotting requirement, but then it’s too easy to splash into any old deck.
Maybe I should drop the "Shadow possession" part? |

Dáin’s DC Duos #45
Well, I was getting ready to post anyway, but SoP’s review (the third for Duo #44) clinched it...time for another Duo!
Actually, it’s another Trio: three FP cards. I have four more planned for tomorrow, and then the culture, at least for now, will be done! Just in time to start a new culture on Friday.
In Lasting Alliances, the Free Peoples side of the culture is actually based mostly outside of The Hobbit, from the story of Déagol’s discovery of the Ring and his subsequent murder at the hands of Sméagol, the first Ring-bearer in many ages of Middle-Earth...and the last for many ages more up until his encounter with a certain Baggins. (This story is actually found in The Fellowship of the Ring.)
The FP culture is pretty small: these three cards + the four tomorrow = only seven. But what’s there is pretty potent and would likely be used in many decks inside AND outside of Lasting Alliances.
Without further ado, let’s get this thing started. Enjoy!
Inquisitive and Curious-Minded
Condition • Support Area
Each time the fellowship moves to a river or forest site, you may add a threat to heal Sméagol.
“He was interested in roots and beginnings; he dived deep into pools; he burrowed under trees and growing plants; he tunnelled into green mounds; and he ceased to look up at the hill-tops, or the leaves on trees, or the flowers opening in the air: his head and eyes were downward.”
I think the threat adding will keep them from making a solo-Sméagol strategy overly powerful (especially when coupled with the card below), and keep it feasible only when Sméagol is part of a larger fellowship.
In THAT case, this card could be huge. As long as you can afford to throw out some threats, Sméagol becomes a tough guy to keep down. Add in some good threat removal and watch your opponent cry.
Then, just to be evil, play the following:
Land of the Stoors
Condition • Support Area
Discard this condition if you cannot spot Sméagol and Déagol.
Each site on the adventure path is a river.
Maneuver: Discard this condition and exert Sméagol or Déagol to make the move limit for this turn +1.
“Long ago, on the banks of the Great River, lived little Hobbit-like people. They loved the river, and often swam in it, or made little boats of reeds.”
Need I say more?
Déagol already exists as a follower, of course. One of the cards tomorrow will be the first Déagol companion, so this card becomes a real possibility.
Memories of Ages Before
Event • Maneuver
Exert Sméagol to discard a card (except a minion).
“...when he lived with his grandmother in a hole in a bank by a river. ‘Sss, sss, my preciouss,’ he said. ‘Sun on the daisies it means, it does.’”
I originally had this as a riddle-killing card, but I decided to leave that up to Bilbo and the culture instead. I’m much happier with the rewrite. Simple, powerful, and (hopefully) balanced. You tell me if I’m right.
EDIT: Couple tweaks after SoP’s review.
EDIT 2: One more tweak to Memories of Ages Before after NB’s review. |

really nothing to say very basic card.

the manuever ability should probably cost more. make it discard it and exert smeagol twice or something like that

What’s with the trios:D? works for me, but clever hobbits works oh so much better. IMO make it cost 1 oh even o. |

I added an exertion to the maneuver ability of Land of the Stoors and reduced the cost of Memories of Ages Before to . I’m reluctant to take it down to because then I think it might be TOO good, especially against the powerful new Shadow possessions. |

Hm...good card. May go in some IB decks with Smeagol.

Man that’s mean. No worse than that condition that makes each site a battleground, though.
Memories of Ages Before
Event • Maneuver
Exert Sméagol to discard a Shadow card (except a minion).

Nice. Good-bye Shelob, Eater of Light! (not the minion, but the whole support system). However, isn’t it rather specific? Maybe add a choose one kinda thing, and give it a more generic option. Maybe a condition of Shadow card? Oh, BTW, why does it have to be shadow? If someone wants to chuck some of their own cards, let em.

Yeah, Shelob hates this card.
I wanted it to be specifically because the title and lore refer to Gollum’s old memories coming out, which is very Sméagol-ish. I reduced the cost to while you were reviewing, so that might help. eh?
Good point about Shadow, though. I’ll drop that part. Thanks! |
