macheteman wrote: very good, except the fellowship ability is a little un-beorn-ish. and underpowered. i’d make it add a threat to remove if i didn’t abolish that special ability altogether. and make it different. but altogether, not bad.
Here were my thoughts:
1) Choke (especially in the fellowship phase) gets broken very quickly and very easily (eg. Sting), which is why his ability is so minimal. If you really think it’s not good enough, I’ll try to change it.
2) It does kind of make sense in the story, as he helps them along their way, lets them recuperate from their journeys, and then guards them right up until Mirkwood, but I understand your point.
for your comments.
But now there’s a bit of a pickle - 2 people wanted me to tone Skin-Changer down and one wanted me to make him even harder! Another opinion or two certainly wouldn’t go amiss guys.
And I’m afraid SoP that I still don’t understand what LA is!

i still sugest making it add a threat to remove one. and i’d add: regroup: if you cannot spot 4 companions you may remove , (or exert Beorn to remove ).
or something like that to give him some versatility. either way, i definitely suggest making the original ability "add a threat". it can’t really become broken because at most there will be 3 companions in play, and it doesn’t bog beorn down in burdens. to tell you the truth, beorn is a guy who i think should be enduring. that would be another thing for you to think about.
anyway, those are my thoughts.

I understand the choking idea, but I still think his ability is kinda weak. Perhaps "exert Beorn to remove (or exert him twice to remove )." Now you can remove up to by exhausting him, or if you can bump up his vitality by just 1, suddenly you can remove ! THAT would be something I would consider.

Skirmish: If you cannot spot 4 companions, exert Beorn make him strength +5 and damage +1. Until the end of the regroup phase, he is not a Man.

Limit it to "At the start of each skirmish involving Beorn", or just "limit once per skirmish". Or do like AP said, and make it exert him twice. Otherwise you’re looking at a potential strength +15, damage +3 pump, which is just crazy.

Bearer must be Beorn.
Beorn is terror 1 for each wound on him.
He was clothed in a tunic of wool down to his knees, and was leaning on a large axe.

Comboed with the above, especially Agreeable Host, this is NASTY! But okay, I think. Barely. |

I’ll go with Dain on the first one, but thanks both of you! A each is definitely coming your way! And enduring is a thought...
And here are the only other cards specifically for Beorn in the whole set - but don’t worry, later he gets some bears to help him out.
Terror X (Each time this character is assigned to skirmish an opponent’s character, they may make that opponent exert X of their characters.)
Fierce Hatred
Event • Skirmish
Make Beorn strength +3. He gains Terror 1 until the regroup phase.
He came alone, and in bear’s shape; and he seemed to have grown almost to giant-size in his wrath.
H1 C 100
Fierce Enemy
Event • Response
If Beorn wins a skirmish, wound a minion (twice if that minion is fierce).
The roar of his voice was like drums and guns; and he tossed wolves and goblins from his path like straws and feathers.
H1 R 99
Beorn’s Animals
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot Beorn and exert a companion.
Response: If a minion is played, discard this condition to make a Shadow player discard a Shadow event from their hand.
Some horses, very sleek and well groomed, trotted up across the grass and looked at them intently with very intelligent faces; then off they galloped to the buildings.
H1 C 91
Very Great Person
Condition • Support Area
Each time Beorn wins a skirmish and you cannot spot 4 companions, add a token here.
Fellowship or Regroup: Remove a token from this condition to remove .
Fellowship: Remove 2 tokens from this condition to heal a companion.
’... he is under no enchantment but his own.’

I’m assuming there were no problems with these cards, then.

Very weak. Make each token dropped remove , I think, and then raise the cost of the card to . |
