Yeah, I have to vote for B. It’s not only the most balanced, it also has cool abilities (and it uses my keyword! ). |

I feel I can’t vote for Elfhelm, Captain of the Rohirrim, since it introduces this captain keyword which is not explained anywhere in here. So that leaves the other two....
Elfhelm, Mounted Warrior has a lot going for it. The twilight reduction is one of the things I’ve always liked about certain companions, and Elfhelm would be a good candidate to get in on that action. The plains text is typical Rohan, though it might be a tiny bit overpowered when coupled with the reduction AND the fellowship ability. I think he would be a much better card if the fellowship ability were either reduced (reducing the cost of a mount by -1 or something) or dropped entirely.
That brings me to Elfhelm, King’s Captain. The spotting text is good, as it helps offset his rather nice abilities. is not particularly good with threats, so that hurts the "each time a threat is removed" text. However, I like the unique flair this guy brings to the table. The fact that he DOES work so well with threats makes him (and the companion required to play him, of course) a good splashing option for a fellowship laden with a culture that does do a lot with threats. At the same time, Elfhelm can work very well with what little already has to offer in the threat department, especially the adding of threats with cards like With Strength to Fight and a few copies of Long Spear. Theoden armed with Herugrim, Sword of the Mark is good too. Rohirrim Herdsman works too.
Anyways, the long of short of it is that I can see Elfhelm, King’s Captain as being the most unique and creative of these three entires. Elfhelm, Mounted Warrior is good but has been done before, so King’s Captain edges ahead of it.
Nutshell: Option C for me. |
