How does Wood Elves work with shocklands (e.g. Temple Garden)? Does the shockland comes to play untapped and no need to pay 2 life, or you still have to pay 2 life if you want it untapped.
What is difference between "As it comes to play..." or "When it comes to play..."? As vs When.
Thanks. |

Come-into-play abilities are triggered regardless of how the card entered play, so with Temple Garden you’ll need to tap the land (or pay 2 life) even when using Wood Elves. |

To answer your sub-question specifically:
"As <this> comes into play"
and
"When <this> comes into play"
are functionally identical. I think "as" is an older wording, when the rules were such that the coming into play and the ability happend simultaneously. Now most (if not all) coming into play abilities are triggered upon coming into play and go on the stack, so newer cards use the trigger word "When". |
