Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. |

Haha, no kidding. I checked out one of the Tengwar cards...it’s the Sindar version of Tengwar, right? Oh...and how do the numbers work? It looks like D made up some sort of funky numbering system. I know that Tolkien never actually made Tengwar numbers... |

I learned Tengwar a while back, long before I discovered LOTR tcg. I love it! Although I have no one to write to who would understand it.
D did not invent the Tengwar numbering system. Tolkien did. He even wrote about how the numbering system was developed through time by the elves. It started out with numbers 1-36 being represented by each of the 36 tengwa, with a single dot over them to show that they were numbers. The Eldarin don’t usually count in 10’s, the way that we do. They commonly count in 12’s. The dotting system caused some confusion, however, and a better system was needed. It becomes quite complicated after that, with different elven cultures using slightly different ways of numbering things. But Tolkien wrote that there was one numbering system that was more commonly used than others. I’ve got that system on my pc, but I can’t put it here on CC because CC doesn’t support it. Believe me, I’ve tried.
When I first looked at the Tengwar cards, I was a bit perplexed because they didn’t totally fit into any of the modes that I had learned (Quenya, Sindarin, Mode Of Gondor or Full Mode Of Gondor). I studied it a bit further, and I believe that D is actually using the second style of English Full Mode.
I could explain more, but you shouldn’t get me started on Tengwar or Elvish (note - too late ). I’ll talk for days and bore you all to tears!
If anyone wants a link to some good Tengwar or Elvish sites, I will be happy to help. |

Check out the Appendices of LOTR, specifically Appendix E.
SM: Thanks for the info about Tengwar numbering! I never knew that...do you know in which book of Tolkien’s you could find that? Unfinished Tales, perhaps? |
