I’ve been looking at some Solo Smeagol Free Peoples decks for a bit, and so I’ve decided to give it a try. As for the Shadow side, Ninja Gollum was an obvious choice because of its compatability with a Smeagol FP build. This is an Expanded Format deck.
Starting
Smeagol, Bearer of Great Secrets
The One Ring, The Ring of Rings
Faramir, Son of Denethor
Pippin, Hobbit of Some Intelligence
Free Peoples (32 + Starting)
Gondorian Blade
Follow Smeagol x2
Poor Wretch x4
Don’t Look At Them x2
Safe Passage x2
There’s Another Way x4
Nice Fish x2
Nasty x4
Still Far Ahead x4
Not Listening x3
Naked Waste x2
Something Slimy x2
Shadow (34)
Gollum, Mad Thing
Gollum, Stinker
Gollum, Hopeless
Shelob, Her Ladyship x3
Black Gate Sentry x2
Web x2
They Stole It x4
Promise Keeping x3
Fat One Wants It x2
Hidden Even From Her x2
Incited x3
Slippery As Fishes x2
Plotting
Captured by the Ring x4
You’re A Liar and a Thief x2
A Dark Shape Sprang
Strategy
Since both the FP and Shadow side will be discarding cards with They Stole It and Don’t Look At Them, this deck will cycle very fast. Considering that, I am thinking of adding a card or two on each side (any suggestions?). Of course, Incited can bring back a few cards a turn if needed. The Free Peoples side revolves around choking the pool, controlling the site path, and keeping Smeagol away from death and corruption. The Shadow side focuses on wounding and exerting companions (which, by now, we all know is Ninja Gollum’s greatest strength).
Any feedback is appreciated. |

I know nothing about the freeps strategy but on the shadow side i must say whats the point in having slippery as fishes and chasm’s edge if you only have one copy of each? that doesn’t give gollum a big enough boost. If you add cards into the shadow, more of those would be great.
plenty of they stole it and promise keeping, btw. but we all need some pallando defense... sudden strike would be a great card, also! |

I think another copy of Incited would be helpful. |

About that Shadow...take out Chasm’s Edge. It’s useless against any deck except hobbits and ring-bound rangers.
Consider adding Horribly Strong and/or Unseen Foe, even if you have Web. If you pull one of those, discard for some great wounding. If you don’t, stack the minions on Web. Once, I killed off Madril at Site 2 with Little Snuffler 2x and Horribly Strong. No nasty threat-roaming!! |

Yeah I only have one copy of each at the moment, but I’ll soon have another copy of Slippery as Fishes to replace Chasm’s Edge. I’ll throw in another copy of Incited as well, AC. I edited the deck design to include Faramir, Son of Denethor for added support.
I’m wondering whether I should use The One Ring, Answer to All Riddles or the One Ring, The Ring of Rings. AtAR boosts both vitality and strength, while RoR would enable me to use Smeagol, Bearer of Great Secrets’ regroup special ability more often. Any ideas?
Thanks for the advice guys. Keep the comments coming! |

Definitely use The Ring of Rings, and 2 of your sites should be Osgiliath Reclaimed and Caves of Aglarond to help remove burdens. Hobbiton Market is also nice for those double moves. |
All cards do what they say. |

Should I replace You’re a Liar and a Thief with Sudden Strike? You’re a Liar and a Thief helps with wounding, yet Sudden Strike would allow me to get my conditions set up more quickly. I’m also considering adding a few copies of Duality to choke the pool a bit more. |

Starting
Smeagol, Bearer of Great Secrets
The One Ring, The Ring of Rings => I disagree here and would play either the one ring, answer to all riddles or the one ring, the ring of doom , for the 2 additional life points they provide.
Faramir, Son of Denethor
Pippin, Hobbit of Some Intelligence
Free Peoples (32 + Starting)
Gondorian Blade => would switch to Faramir’s sword
Follow Smeagol x2
Poor Wretch x4
Don’t Look At Them x3
Safe Passage x2
There’s Another Way x4
Clever Hobbits x4
Nasty x4
Where Shall We Go x 2
Still Far Ahead x 2
Not Listening x 2
Something Slimy x 2
one way or another I would enter a footman’s armor that is gold, I don’t see any naked waste here, yet it’s a golden card for this deck.
Shadow (34)
Gollum, Mad Thing x2 => 1 will be enough
Gollum, Stinker x2 => same
Shelob, Her Ladyship x3
Web x2
They Stole It x4
Promise Keeping x3
Fat One Wants It x2
Hidden Even From Her x2
Incited x3
Slippery As Fishes x2
Chasm’s Edge => forget it
Plotting=> not very useful
Captured by the Ring x4
You’re A Liar and a Thief x2
A Dark Shape Sprang => I wouldn’t play it
at quick glande, I would enter here:
- nasty foul hobbitses
- unseen foe
- so polite + some big minions like sauron, the lord of the rings and the balrog who cannot be exerted on undergrounds, lurtz, minion of the white wizard is fine too |
orian - the French pirate, the Bloody Bastard |

It doesn’t really matter if Gollum is strength 5 or 6, since Gollum will be winning skirmishes using They Stole It and Promise Keeping. Besides, with only 1 copy of it, it probably won’t see much play anyway. |
