Okay, here’s a really insane version of LOTR I just thought of:

You use a regular deck, but here’s what’s different...after you bid to go first, there is no move limit. You must continue to move in every regroup phase. Once there’s a shadowkill, note which site it was at (or, if you made it to Site 9 Shocked note that). All normal rules apply. Then, remove all sites but the first site, and the second player has a go. Whoever gets farther wins!

Well, what do you think?

I don’t think it would work very well.
It would?could get boring, dying before site 6.
Since you couldn’t heal wounds would pile up so archery decks could have a field day. I would like to know what sort of fellowships would do well.
Some type of fellowship that has a lot of vitality and since you would only get to draw one hand as the freeps player that would probably mean the game would only last until site 5 at most.
You should try it on SDA and see what happens.

Neat idea.

I’m thinking maybe you’d be allowed to heal when you move to a sanctuary. Anyway, I thought it would be interesting, seeing how far you can make it in one go.

Maybe something like rohan, that can pull cards from your deck, would work well, or maybe a deck with an ARB would work better... massive cycling dwarves might not be bad, either way, you could throw in some stuff with muster to drop shadow cards and pull what you need...

interesting idea, CG

ents they have high vitality and can basically fully set up in your first turn.

but yeah I thought of this once another weird thing we did was everyone started out with all their companion, possessions, and condition (freep ones) in play. it didn’t work to well

I’m also considering allowing the FP to take one Fellowship action per new site. This would give them a reasonable chance to get new cards in play.

Key strategies here:
Start lots of companions. Gondor rangers are definitely at a plus here.
    Grab cards in non-Fellowship phases.
Make sure to have those Regroup cards (Lembas, etc.) handy!

Another interesting thing: the player going second won’t have a chance to play his Freeps until the Shadowkill, so he’ll clog his hand!

Yes. Otherwise, the 1st player would almost always lose.

Right. After the first person goes and gets Shadowkilled or somehow makes it to Site 9, it’s as if he never played at all. So he still gets to play minions.
