Well, here’s all the conversation between myself, Carpe, and NBarden about the state of LotR gaming in Wichita, Kansas. It seems that things are coming back...
So if you’re from Wichita, get in touch with one of us!
menace64:
Tournaments don’t need to be scheduled and run through Decipher anymore. All you need is a group of players to enter a fee ($3 or so) and then get packs for the winners. On that note, it seems signs of life in Wichita are popping up. I’ve got a nice-sized playing group forming.
CarpeGuitarrem:
Really? Any place I can get info on that? Not that I play regularly, but...
menace64:
It kind of happened on accident... I got a couple boxes for Christmas, and a couple friends (, to be exact) were over and I built them all decks. Now they’re all interested in playing (even if it’s with just my cards). My brother is getting interested again , and I have another friend I need to bring into the fold . Counting me , and that’s a sanctioned tournament. I think it’ll be a little while before they’re all ready for serious play, though. Most of them need a lot more training.
NBarden:
We have a group of 12 playing informally in the Wichita area. Let me know, menace, if you get a tournament set up. Of course, if we play, it would have to be open or expanded, because half of us don’t even have enough standard legal cards to build a deck. And of course, we’d have to ban my friend’s knight/orc deck from play so that someone could beat him for once.
menace64:
More Wichitans!!??! But yeah, none of us play strict standard. I just let them build decks with any cards they like. I will definately let you and Carpe know when things get planned. It shouldn’t be too long.
CarpeGuitarrem:
No enforced deck styles...sounds pretty cool. I’ve finally got a small-sized collection now (a heap of C/U, and a few handfuls of rares). Too bad Prarie Dog isn’t around any more...I hear they used to run tournies.
menace64:
Actually Prairie Dog is still around, they just moved a bit east. I don’t have an address, but they’re (exactly) just north from the Towne West mall. It’s a little shopping complex. Their place is a *lot* bigger now. And yeah, I used to be a regular at their tournaments (And Blue Horse’s before that). But - if you haven’t yet - go by C&R Comics (immediately North of East High). They’re pretty cool, and I’ve talked with the owner enough to be able to get LotR going.
NBarden:
So, tentatively, how many people would show up, assuming that 12-14 come from my group? And would there be prizes?
menace64:
I’m speaking for my guys, but I’ve got 7 who know how to play (a few amazingly well). I’d have to check with them though. Now, for prize support, I think if we all chip in a buck or two we can award packs to winners (C&R doesn’t carry LotR packs [yet hehe]), so Prairie Dog might be in for now. Or, if everyone agrees, we could just do store credit. Whatever works and gets people to come.
So... any questions? |

Forgot something. I said that I bought out Prarie Dog a couple months ago. (All 5 booster packs).
So, we would need to order a prize. Maybe...pizza? Or the wraith collection? Or one of cobracards’ reflections booster boxes for $19? LotR may not be so hot any more, but that means we could get some stuff pretty cheap.
Or maybe cobra cards would sponsor the tournaments and provide prize support. With like a $3 entry fee to cobracards, they might make some money.
I don’t think we should ask decipher, they’re going bankrupt. (If rumors be true )
Anyway, some ideas. |

You know, the idea of somehow sponsoring LOTR TCG tournaments from a distance crossed my mind the other day. Anything that helps keep this great game alive is worth looking into... and from a purely mercenary point of view, I figure it might be a good PR opportunity.
PM me if you’re serious about this, I’m sure we can work something out. |

I’ve been talking with Cobra, and he’s up for the idea.
I’m in the process of moving into my own place with 2 friends of mine (both whom play now). Our move-in date is the 31st of this month, and I was thinking that it would be advantageous to hold events there instead of dragging in a third party.
If we can secure prize support from CobraCards, I think this would be a great idea. |

It’s a townhouse, so three floors. It’s not "huge oh my gosh I could have a big thanksgiving dinner here" but we’re thinking it’s fine for card gaming. |

So, any developments? And what format are we looking at? I know that a bunch of people in my group don’t even have a standard legal deck, so its probably got to be open or expanded. I know several people in my group also run expanded xd cards, so we would really, really prefer open. |
