Open-Undeniably broken. Infinite Gandalf and Fruit Loops.
Expanded-Still somewhat broken in places. Demoralized + Rapid Reload is still legal. And Ithilien Blade gets even more broken with What Are They?
Standard-Least broken of them all. Especially since anything you call "broken" in Standard is also playable in Expanded. |

Because they’re not in the spirit of the game. The object is not, "How can I bend the rules by mixing two very different cards in a freak combo?", but "How can I use these tools effectively?" |

Well I prefer expanded (I like having a big card pool, plus the older cards are cooler), but I go by PPE, and - more generally - restricting myself to fun cards that don’t piss off anyone I’m playing (Rapid Reload, etc.). |

Personally, I’m a huge fan of movie block. Not too many busted or nearly busted combos lots of variety on both the free peoples’ and shadow side. Quite fun. If I had to choose a tournament format, I’d probably say standard. There are very good reasons why cards are on the x-list. Let’s leave them there and interactions with certain Set 1-6 cards create a Negative play environment.
The format that I like best though is Fellowship draft. Kind of swingy, but very fun none the less. It has a tendency to level the playing field such that the better players have a tendency to win rather than those with the best cards. |

Standard is the most balanced format, but my friends and I don’t have tons of the new Hunters cards - thus we stick with Expanded (not too many NPEs, and the best format for the cards we have). |

I love booster draft. Period. It is so much fun! Especially since I seem to have a knack for throwing decent decks together with a very limited card pool. (not to brag, the decks usually stay "decent" and never get "good" or "awesome")
Okay, I take that back. I have one Killer Nazgul deck that dropped two of my opponents companions at site 3. That is a good deck. I might consider it awesome.
Anyway, booster draft is cool because you don’t necessarily get slaughtered by the guy who can afford four copies each of Aragorn’s Bow, Ranger’s Longbow and Aragorn, Thorongil.
Which is also why I like no-rares format... |
