--- description ---

Hobbits get big and damage +1 with a little help from their boy, Gimli. FP only, for now.

--- end description ---

Hey all, you guys are much more active than the boards at the big D so I thought I’d see if you could help me. I did this trick with Ents a long time ago where they’d all be damage +1 and huge. It did pretty well and they had amazing moving power. I’d always loved the idea of bringing dmg+1 to companions who would otherwise not get it, so now I’m trying it with Hobbits.

The main idea is for Hobbits to get big and win fights. They will be damage +1 due to the four copies of Dwarven Embassy (11C5) and Defending the Keep (5C6, it gets the Embassies back). Gimli also brings Blood Runs Chill, which addresses another of the Hobbits main weaknesses. Add this to their already impressive bag of tricks and the Hobbits should be pretty good, right?

The big problem is that I’ve never really played Hobbits before. I need some help trimming and maybe some advise on what to do to make these little guys into total beasts.

Gimli, BoG

The One Ring, Answer to All Riddles (I know it could get tricky with burdens, but he needs the vitality for BRC)

Starting Fellowship

Frodo, Frenzied Fighter

Sam, Great Elf Warrior

Decksize (43, that’s why I need your help )

Companions/Allies (6):

Frodo, Frenzied Fighter (s)

Sam, Great Elf Warrior (s)

Merry, The Tall One

Pippin, The Short One

Bilbo, Aged Ring Bearer

Rosie Cotton, Hobbiton Lass

Possessions/Artifacts (12):

Hobbit Sword x4

Gimli’s Battle Axe (1R14, static Damage +1 helps BRC)

Sting, Weapon of Heritage

Salt From the Shire x2

Mithril Coat (2R105, should help Frodo fight)

Phial of Galadriel, The Light of Earendil

Ring of Fury x2

Followers (2):

Daddy Twofoot, Next-Door Neighbor

The Gaffer, Master Gardener

Conditions (13):

Dwarven Embassy x4

A Promise x4

There and Back Again

Sudden Fury x2

Fates Entwined x2

Little Golden Flower

Events (10):

Defending the Keep x2 (recycles Dwarven Embassy)

Blood Runs Chill x3

Hobbit Intuition x3(played for the pump, not the stealth)

Sworn Companion x2

I may be able to help.

First off, get rid of Rosie. Allies are a big no-no in general, and she doesn’t give enough of a benefit to stay.

If you’re going for strength, drop both Salt from the Shires and Phial of Galadriel. Hobbits have good enough resistance without them.

You’re gonna want 4 Sudden Fury. They are amazing for Hobbits. Mithril-coat is a mabye, so drop it for a SF if you want to.

I also suggest a couple Dagger Strike. You’ve got the hand weapons, and it gives damage +1.

It’s a very, very interesting deck! Let me know how it turns out.

Riddle 9

When I came to Abraham I let him live just a moment longer. When I came to Moses I saved his life more than once. But the salmon... I regret to say I had a hand in its death.

Thanks for lending a hand!

Rosie? She’s gone. I’ll definetly work on getting 4 Sudden Furys in the deck, probably take out some pumps (Sworn Companion is gone). I’ll pitch the Salts of the Shire too.

As for the Phial of Galadirel, it might be necessary, if I can’t get the decksize down to 32-33 a little muster could really help. I think I’ll hold off on the Dagger Strikes for now as well. These guys should be Damage +1 anyway and we’ll have to see if that is going to be good enough during playtesting.

I think maybe that I should go with either Frodo/Sam fighters (promise, Bilbo, etc) or Merry/Pippin (Everyone Knows). That would let me boil the deck down a little more.

Any other ideas out there?

Bid as much as you feel comfortable with to get Green Dragon Inn and play Bilbo. Play it safe on that first move, your guys won’t be incredibly strong yet. Pair it with a shadow that is good early and it should do ok. |
