Hey I’m just starting to play again after stopping at the two towers set... I’ve been doing alot of reading and catching up.. I’ve got a few questions..

1. I noticed that there is now an "orc" civilization that has moria minions.. Did these replace moria? If I’m playing open format can I use moria things with these minions?

2. What sets are allowed in Standard Format??

The Orc culture is a separate culture from Moria. Cards that work with one culture will not necessarily work with the other culture. All cards do what they say.

Sets 7 and beyond are legal for Standard.
All cards do what they say.

Allow me to clarify a bit more...

When the Shadows set came out, Decipher reorganized all Shadow cultures into new ones. Instead of separating the forces of evil by location, it’s now by race.

There are now Men, Orcs, Uruk-hai, and Wraith cultures.

I wouldn’t say that these cultures replaced Moria, Raiders, and so forth, but instead that standard rotation made previous cultures unplayable. In expanded, however, all Shadow cultures are still thriving and (in my eyes) equally powerful as the newer incarnations.

And Bib is completely right... The Orc culture is not compatable with the Moria culture. However, you can still find ways to mix and match. I play The Balrog from older sets in my current Orc culture deck, and lots of old Isengard cards target Uruk-hai of any culture.

Welcome back to the game!

When I came to Abraham I let him live just a moment longer. When I came to Moses I saved his life more than once. But the salmon... I regret to say I had a hand in its death.

one quick Q.
I read somewhere on D, that with old culture cards you would remove the culture symbol IE morgul axe would be bearer must be a orc. anyone else remember that?
also am I correct in thinking that old ringwraith cards go with new wraith cards?

No, I don’t recall that...cards do exactly what they say. And Morgul Axe was never intended to work with any minions except Wraith orcs, as opposed to Moria orcs and Sauron orcs.

And yes, although the culture icon looks different, the old and new Wraith cards are interchangeable, because in the gametext the culture icons look the same.

Nope, never heard of it. Morgul Axe can definitely not play on anyone except a Wraith Orc.

You are correct, however, in assuming that old Ringwraith cards are interchangeable with new Wraith cards. The symbol stayed the same, and the name was just changed a bit to allow Barrow-wights and Wraiths from the Dead Marshes to join the Nazgul in that culture.

to a certain extent, the Orc culture murged several cultures.

Moria
Sauron
Isengard wargs

into

Orc

however, on the other hand it didn’t take its place. cards that work with Moria won’t work with Orc. Smile

Orc also has Wraith Orcs and non-Warg-rider Isengard Orcs.
