In most contexts, Elves simply have better companions to play.
But, Elven Guardian is perfect as a fifth companion for the Three Hunters archery deck -- he’s a hunter, he can wield a bow, he’s strong for his cost, and he can recharge Legolas, Of the Woodland Realm to boot! |

Yah, he is a decent guy, especially for block format, but he won’t get to see the inside of many decks... |

They needed to stop making 2-costing elven companions since Elladan and Elrohir made their appearance. Those two make everything else seem oh so crappy. But, he is a great companion for three hunters decks... |

Bad maybe in that context, but consider: what are you getting for that 2-cost. you’re getting what is frequently a 9-strength companion with a solid ability. The only companion that outstrips him is Glorifindel (with his discount) and Huorn (who, when powered up, is fairly retarted for his cost). Though there are better elves to start, this guy is frankly amazing; he puts most of the old Naith elves to shame. |

This guy is great, especially compared to the older companions. He wouldn’t be bad in a Three Hunters deck.
I think that the ability to easily become 9 strength is what really makes this guy worthwhile. And, since he’s included in a starter deck, he’ll be easy to obtain - perfect for beginners looking for good companions to include in their deck. |
