The ability to make a companion defender +2 (or even +3 with a Ranger’s Cloak) and then sacrifice him to appease several scary minions at once is potentially very strong.
Generally speaking, the times when this ability is useful are not the times when minions are naturally roaming. But in a Ranger deck that makes minions roaming almost all the time, this guy could be an excellent safety net. I’m not sure he’ll make the cut, but I’d say he’s worth testing. |

Well well well, looks like we got another "ranger of the north". Couldn’t D wait for a set or two before they cut Madril?
He looks a tough litte guy, and he makes me wanna start my 9 gondorian deck into sth like:
Isildur RB
Faramir CoG
Ranger of the White tree x4
Aragorn, strider
Madril
Derufin.
After all, 7 strength is better than 6 strength! |

That doesn’t work, unfortunately. To get Ranger of the White Tree’s twilight cost reduction, you have to spot an unbound companion with twilight cost 3 or more. |

Unfortunately, since Madril is now on the X-list, this guy isn’t as good as he could be. |
All cards do what they say. |

Ouch then. The only use he has is get a decent defender bonus and die bravely in case of a swarm. Long live gondorian merchant, the only worthy ally! |

The card sure is tainted with the awkward wordings... |

He’s a good card, the potential defender + bonus is good. If you have armor as well...and maybe Ithilien Blade and some other pumps, he could be tough to overwhelm and only take one wound.
Oh, and on the starting fellowship, 2x Ranger of the White Tree? And a Madril...in expanded format...
And is it just me or is D starting a White Tree thing? |

Another 3 from me. The starting fellowship thing is nice, and he makes a good pincushion for swarms, but I don’t like the cost. I know, it works out in the right deck, but I still don’t like it. I’d be more likely to use Gondorian Prowler, personally. |

I think they have an error
"while this is in your starting fellowship..."
i think should be
"While this companion is in your..."
Am I correct? |

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. |

There’s that mistake, then writing "cost" instead of "twilight cost."
I assume Brad wrote this card, and then didn’t figure there was enough space to do it correctly. Naturally, he is wrong. "When playing" twilight reductions always follow keywords on the first line, and if he had the sense to put it there, it would have been fine.
As a perfectionist, I’m getting very sick and tired of the no-brainer typos. **ESPECIALLY** in the collector’s info. |
