I’m a little confused about Vilya, Ring of Air.

the text says "Skirmish: Discard the top card of your draw deck. Make a minion skirmishing an Elf strength -X, where X is the twilight cost of the discarded card. Discard this artifact."

does this mean that i can discard the top card of my draw deck in a skirmish, and the choose whether i want to make the minion strength -X and discard the ring? or does it mean that once i have discarded the top card i have to make the minion strength -X and discard the ring.

because, say the top card of my draw deck was twilight cost:0. i don’t want to lose my ring for nothing.

you have to discard the ring upon using the ability.

You can use Glorfindel, Revealed in Wrath to take a look at your top card before you use Vilya.
All cards do what they say.

And, to expand upon that, the difference between Glorfindel and the Ring of Air is the word ’may’. Both cards have you discard/look at the top card of your deck, but Glorfindel gets to choose whether or not to do anything while the Ring of Air must be discarded.

Another combo, use Elrond, Witness to History to place Take up the Bow on top then use Vilya, Ring of Air.

Also, using Legolas, of the grey company and Rumil, Brother of Haldir to reveal cards works much the same way. Or Nenya, Ring of Adamant. Twisted Evil Stack Sauron on top, anyone?

Gandalf, Manager of Wizards makes an excellent splash here. Stack a high-cost minion there (discarding Sauron might be too hefty of a cost...) nice stuff!

Actually, Embarassed no. I have never seen an elf telepathy deck. I’ve seen fighting elves, elvents and archery, but never telepathy. I guess that’s how it works?
