Ok, with the new fighting ring-bearer Rohan strategy D has come up with, what do you all think of it?
Personally, I think the new Aragorn + Aragorn’s Bow, Ranger Longbow + Rohirrim Bow could wound minions so bad that a 1 vitality left minion could be assigned to the RB and Power according to his stature used to drop it. Then, resolve RB skirmish last so everyone gets their bonuses, bring in Where now the Horse? and if your opponent gets nasty and starts to win, drop him with power according to his stature. As an added safety measure, splash in a Sam that can take the ring if Frodo dies. And voila, you have a tough to kill ring-bearer, and even if he dies you can still carry on.
Of course, none of this works in Standard...but I think the Fightin’ Frodo deck would be pretty cool in Expanded/Open.
Now they need a new version of Bill the Pony, that works like a traditional mount.
So...what do you all think of the Fightin’ Frodo strategy? |

I think that D might just have something more up its sleeve to show us. After all, Where is the Horse? is the only Frodo-booster that we’ve seen so far. Might there be more? I’ll reserve judgment for now. |

At the start of each skirmish involving Frodo, each minion skirmishing him must exert. Jeez, that is really creepy... |

With the spoilers and reviews I’ve been posting for Rise of Saruman, I’m sure everyone here knows I’m not a big fan of making your Ring-bearer skirmish all the time. Usually it’s just too risky. Getting around that risk involves using up resources: cards, twilight, exertions, burdens, threats, and so on, depending on how you choose to protect Frodo. At the very least you’ll be using some rather inefficient combat tactics. Frodo just isn’t meant to fight that much; he says so himself, remember?
However, I do like the new Eomer, Northman and Aragorn, Defender of Rohan. Aragorn is always a solid companion; now he can benefit from skirmish events and other helper cards, and he can boost the Rohirrim’s archery potential and even provide pathfinding via Anduril, Flame of the West. Eomer can be a strong choice due to his multiple defender +1 ability.
So I should clarify my position a little. It’s not the cards themselves I don’t like (far from it!), it’s the idea of building a deck that’s designed to put your Ring-bearer at unnecessary risk. Eomer and Aragorn are plenty useful as it is, and their "While the Ring-bearer is assigned to a skirmish..." text should just be considered a minor bonus that can kick in under certain circumstances. |

Cobra, what do you think of a rohan/aragorn’s bow archery deck that exhausts minions to be dropped with PATHS? I think that would be pretty cool. And then bounder to provide a last line of defense, and if Frodo does die, have a Sam that can take the ring.
What would you think of a deck like that? |

I would be fine with assigning my ring-bearer to skirmish (even with the risks). Even with Where Now the Horse? you can include some less useful companions to discard, or, get this, PURPOSEFULLY let frodo lose to discard an exhausted companion... and drop another copy of that companion in a turn or two.
Decipher only needs to prove to me that this kind of deck is better than other strategies out there. |

What isn’t better than the current Standard pure- strats out there? They aren’t up in the ranks of good decks any more...maybe back in TTT, but they’ve fallen. This new strategy looks interesting.
How about something like discarding companions like Riders of the Mark, and then replaying them? That would be interesting... |

For some reason, I keep thinking of the companion who, on the turn you play him, gives each other man a +2 boost... |

Riddermark Soldier. Yes, both are excellent ideas. And combined with The Red Arrow...you could potentially have quite a fun deck. |
