Dáin’s DC Duos #153
Picture this: the kingdom of Gondor is besieged. Their steward is losing hope as his people are slowly beaten down and overwhelmed by the unceasing tide of the enemy. All seems lost, when suddenly, the Northmen arrive in a massive cavalry force on the open fields, drive back (and over) the enemy, and save the day! Return of the King? Nope. Try about five centuries earlier. The steward is Cirion, not Denethor, and the leader of the cavalry force is a young man by the name of Eorl rather than the old veteran leader Théoden.
That’s right, folks. It’s the Battle of the Field of Celebrant, one of the smaller yet most important events explored in Lasting Alliances. It led to Cirion granting Eorl and his people (at the time under the kingdom of Gondor) the land of Calenardhon, which from that time forward was known as the land of Rohan. An alliance was then pledged between Cirion and Eorl...one that was renewed 509 years later, leading to Gondor’s salvation once again. In fact, after THAT battle, King Aragorn and King Éomer renewed the very same oath sworn between Cirion and Eorl. Pretty neat, huh?
Okay, history lesson over. Let’s get to some cards! Enjoy!
•Eorl, Lord of the Éothéod
Companion • Man
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
Valiant. Hunter 1. While you can spot a Man, Eorl’s twilight cost is -1.
Each time Eorl wins a skirmish, you may add to heal a Man (or add to heal a Man twice).
Maneuver or Regroup: If Eorl is mounted, exert him to exert a minion.
“...praised in all such tidings as reached Gondor as a man of great courage and wise beyond his years.”
•Éomund, Chief Captain of the Éothéod
Companion • Man
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
Valiant. Hunter 1.
While mounted at a river or plains site, Éomund is defender +1.
Response: If a valiant Man is about to be overwhelmed, you may add and wound a valiant Man to prevent that.
“...chief captain of the host of the Éothéod at the time of the Ride of Eorl.” |

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |

Seems like a bit of text. I do like the Maneuver/Regroup ability... As for the skirmish win ability, what about "you may add to heal a Man (or add to heal a Man twice)."?

Alright, I do like it... Interesting when you want to win or be overwhelmed, though.
It is worded a little oddly, I think, but I’m not sure how to phrase it better. |
Our time here is ending...
What did you want to see before the end?
It will be made in the Request-a-card Set #1 (name ideas also welcome ). |

Nearly overpowered, but he seems balanced. Cool card!

Changes made to both cards. Thanks for the reviews, guys. s as soon as I can manage them.
Dáin’s DC Duos #154
No, we’re not through with companions, but I wanted to get to a couple powerful tales before we get too much farther. Enjoy!
•The Oath of Cirion and Eorl
Condition • Support Area
Tale. To play, spot a unique Man and a unique Man.
Each time you play a Free Peoples Man, you may heal another Man.
“Cirion granted to Eorl that land to dwell in, and he swore to Cirion the Oath of Eorl, of friendship at need or at call to the Lords of Gondor.”
•The Ride of Eorl
Condition • Support Area
Tale. To play, spot 2 Men.
Each time you play a Man, add a threat.
Each time you play a Man, remove a threat.
“In this peril Cirion’s thought turned at last in desperation to the Éothéod....” |

nice, it might be considered overcosted in some ways. you could prolly cut the cost to 1.

Yeah, this is probably a little expensive... Either cut the cost or add toil 2.

IMO, make it cost 1 and remove the threat from the cost. |

I like the tales. Well-made. I did figure out what looks odd about Eorl, though.
I think the skirmish effect should be above the Maneuver/Regroup ability. Much like Eomund’s Response is below the defender bonus.
So:
Each time Eorl wins a skirmish, you may add to heal a Man (or add to heal a Man twice).
Maneuver or Regroup: If Eorl is mounted, exert him to exert a minion. |
Our time here is ending...
What did you want to see before the end?
It will be made in the Request-a-card Set #1 (name ideas also welcome ). |
