This is where the cards in the Dark Minions set are to be posted. Yet another with a pair of subcultures, hosts the enemies of the powerful evil, the Wizards who are tougher the stronger their opponents are. Also the Ents, in their angry rush at the ring of Isengard, which make up the majority of the culture in Dark Minions.
We’ll start with the smaller half, the Wizards.
The first collection feature the Wizard-based cards that are designed to take down those that should not be faced by mortals. Our first card is a standard Gandalf name, who is a dangerous opponent against those fighting him without any protection or luck, but becomes much more fearsome against the disturbingly strong.
•Gandalf, Stormcrow
Minion • Wizard
3 Strength
3 Vitality
3 Site Number
Gandalf is strength +X, where X is the printed strength of the companion skirmishing him.
Skirmish: Exert Gandalf to exert a companion he is skirmishing with strength 12 or greater.
Skirmish: Exert Gandalf to wound a companion he is skirmishing with strength 16 or greater.
DU85
The next card combines well with this, and is showing a Gandalf who is hunting for those of his own strength, after the Ring has been found by the Shadow.
•Maiar That Remain
Condition • Support Area
Each time a Maia, Balrog or Wizard is played, add a token to this condition.
Skirmish: Remove 2 tokens from this card to heal Gandalf or make him strength +2.
Regroup: Remove a token from this card to heal Gandalf.
DR88
And of course, the other main ’Fighting Gandalf’ card in the set. This features Gandalf after having been killed and stolen the power from Saruman, now presenting himself as Gandalf the White.
•Recovered Power
Condition • Support Area
To play, remove your Wizard from play.
Gandalf is vitality +1. While skirmishing a Balrog, Gandalf is strength +1 and damage +2.
Skirmish: If Gandalf is skirmishing a Wizard, exert him to make a companion skirmishing him strength -2.
DR93
More lore when we get to the Ents... |

Took your suggestions. Yes, Gandalf, Stormcrow is strong - resulting in the weaker you are, the easier he is to overwhelm. However, you only need a +4 strength boost to beat him (such as Merry, From O’er the Brandywine with a Hobbit Sword, or Sam, Great Elf Warrior with the four hobbits) . Against Hobbits, he would overwhelm if they have nothing to boost them (although most minions would), but if they have boosts to overwhelm him, he gets to exert them.
Basically, he makes his opponents want to just beat him, but they’ll have to be tough to overwhelm him - otherwise he’ll just kill them off.
I figured I’d post the rest of the Wizard section (although it’s mostly just Gandalf, with one other ’Wizard’ card that helps Ents enough that it’s counted in the Ent section).
As seen in The Hobbit, Gandalf knows how to frighten off opponents. But, it works well enough against other things than just wolves... This first card takes off a Decipher card as well, considered a major part of many decks, at least in my group.
Flames
Event • Skirmish
Spot Gandalf to make a companion strength -1 (or make a mounted companion strength -3).
DU83
Of course, one of Gandalf’s most known abilities is getting things moving. He is able to pull the strings of almost anyone to get them to do what they need to. Getting the Dwarves to Bilbo, getting Bilbo out, starting Frodo on his journey, saving Rohan and Gondor...
Rally Together
Event • Shadow
Spot Gandalf and X Free Peoples cultures to add [X].
DC92
But, wait... These events need a specific minion. How will they be able to help if you can’t get your minion in play? They’ll just clog up your hand, right? No! Our next card is another Gandalf, that not only allows the use of those cards (as they call Gandalf by name), but make your minions much tougher to kill by geting them in the right spot at the right time. But his ability comes at a price, and if the Ring-bearer remains totally loyal to Sauron, Gandalf can’t risk bringing himself into the open.

Bearer may not be overwhelmed unless his strength is tripled.

Excellent, especially since the cost means he can’t just add for free by spotting himself.

I think damage should be bolded, but otherwise it looks pretty good. Removing a burden is, I think, a good trade-off for what you get for him. Perhaps raise his initial cost to since there’s a number of cards that could benefit just from spotting him. |

Alright, very minor changes needed to be made. But yeah, Gandalf, like Galadriel, is useful just in being in play. But, so much better when they are able to help a minion.
So, we’ll go into the Ent-homes of Fangorn.
There were two mentioned in the books, we’ll visit both, as well as their owner. The Ents are, of course, not quite willing to go to war, but when they do, they are strangely fast and very dangerous. Thus, as a replacement for the Unhasty companions and allies, the minions have an additional cost to play (for the most part), but are relatively cheap for their power otherwise.
First, we will visit the home of Treebeard, a safe haven of sorts for the few remaining Ents. It is also a place of gathering, for when the Ents go to war. There is a similarity to the Elves, who awakened them, which should be somewhat expected. The Ents can get you there, but Treebeard knows the best way. (I especially like the lore, because of Pippin’s ’Where are we going?’)
•Treebeard’s Home
Condition • Support Area
To play, exert an Ent once (or spot Treebeard).
Shadow: Discard a card from hand to play an Ent stacked here as if from hand.
Regroup: Exert your Ent to stack it here. If you can spot a Hobbit, add .
"’Where shall we go?’ asked Merry."
DR96
Of course, the Ent that it belongs to should be represented. He is a strong opponent, and is able to call together the Ents much easier.
•Treebeard, Tree-watcher
Minion • Ent
18 Strength
4 Vitality
6 Site Number
Damage +1. To play Treebeard, exert a or minion (or discard 2 cards from hand).
Shadow: Remove a threat to add (limit once for each Ent you can spot).
"Nothing grew there but a few grasses and weeds at its edge, and one old stump of a tree with only two bent branches left."
DU95
Of course, Treebeard had to participate in the Ent-moot. The hobbits couldn’t understand them, and would find it very tiring, so he sent them off with another Ent. Quickbeam.
•Quickbeam, Joyous Rowan
Minion • Ent
11 Strength
3 Vitality
6 Site Number
Damage +1.
While Quickbeam is skirmishing an Orc, he is strength +3.
"He laughed if the sun came out from behind a cloud, he laughed if they came upon a stream or spring: then he stooped and splashed his feet and head with water."
DC90
He took him to his own home. Quickbeam is able to get information, but it fades quickly, so it’s hard to save it up.
•Quickbeam’s Home
Condition • Support Area
To play, exert an Ent once (or spot Quickbeam). At the start of each maneuver phase, remove a token from here.
Shadow: Remove a token from here to draw a card.
Regroup: Exert an Ent to add a token here.
"Rowan-trees grew in a circle about it, and there was water, a spring bubbling out from the bank."
DR91
Looking at Quickbeam, I’m thinking he may need to have an additional cost... Right now, he may be one of those ’always use’ minions like Goblin Runner - easily splashable and stronger against Orcs (which are in , , and possibly ), so possibly making it Orc, but I’m not sure. |

Wow. I would add another cost to either the stacking or the playing, since Ents are so powerful.
Also, add "once" after "or exert Treebeard".

Whoa! Okay, he needs to be MUCH more expensive, especially since he has a built-in twilight-adding ability. This is like playing the Balrog for only !

Again, way too cheap! Nowhere else will you find a 14/3 minion for only , especially with an easy way to get +3 strength.

Added a ’discard a card’ to play it, allowing it to be a good combo with Quickbeam’s home. Exert your Ent during the regroup twice (most will be able to if they don’t get wounded - and with a high strength, they shouldn’t) and you’ll get to draw a card to play him off of it. That way, it’s not increasing hand size by itself.
DáinIronfoot wrote: Whoa! Okay, he needs to be MUCH more expensive, especially since he has a built-in twilight-adding ability. This is like playing the Balrog for only !
Well, I upped the Ents by 3 twilight, and changed spot to exert (as and minions are tough, high vitality by nature ).
Also, you can get the Balrog in fellowship block for from your deck. Terror of Flame and Shadow would be , except it would only be casual.
DáinIronfoot wrote: Again, way too cheap! Nowhere else will you find a 14/3 minion for only , especially with an easy way to get +3 strength.
That’s not quite right - he was a 12/3, I lowered it to 11/3, allowing for a 14/3 for .

Taken care of.

Alright... after the mistake of the Ents, we’ll go into their support for a little while.
First we go to the entrance to the ent-moot and view what Merry and Pippin saw:
Evergreen Guards
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot 2 Ents (or exert a Ent).
Each time the fellowship moves to a forest, add . If you can spot an Ent, exert an ally.
"Two great trees stood there, one on either side, like living gate-posts."
DU80
Of course, when they first arrived into Fangorn, Merry and Pippin found the water that caused the ’Small One/Tall One’ conflict. We find further that while the minions help Ents charge into battle, Ents can be a helpful addition to a side. I think the lore explains just as well as I could...
Water of the Entwash
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot an Ent.
At the start of each maneuver phase, heal a or minion.
"They were too eager to be surprised at the remarkable way in which the cuts and sores of their captivity had healed and their vigour had returned."
DU99
Lastly, as we found throughout the story, and even among the Elves of Lorien, Fangorn is a scary place by itself. And when Isengard rises to harvest resources from Fangorn Forest, the Ents will respond.
Woods of Fangorn
Condition • Support Area
Shadow: Play an Ent to add a token to this condition.
Skirmish: Remove 4 tokens from this condition to wound a companion skirmishing an Ent (or 2 [Gandalf tokens if that companion is an companion). Your opponent may discard a possession or condition from his support area to prevent this.

put a NOLINK before Where shall we go. IMO it is overcosted. make it exert once, or post treebeard, and possible lower the twilight cost
