Had the idea to make each companion in each culture (Free Peoples and Shadow cultures), just for fun - it’ll be all nine in all cultures is what I’m hoping (all of which will be companions)
I’m going for the cross-cultures first... (and if anyone has some ideas, feel free to share)

Culture and companions completed:
Dunland - None
Dwarven - Legolas
Elven - Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli
Gandalf - Pippin, Aragorn
Gollum - Sam
Gondor - Sam, Pippin, Gandalf
Isengard - Merry, Pippin
Men - None
Moria - Pippin, Gimli
Orc - None
Raider - None
Rohan - None
Sauron - Frodo, Pippin, Boromir
Shire - Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, Aragorn
Uruk-hai - None
Wraith - Frodo

2 •Legolas, Delver Dwarven
Companion • Elf
6 Strength
3 Vitality
7 Resistance
While you can spot Gimli, Legolas is strength +2 and Gimli is resistance +1.
While you can spot Aragorn, Legolas gains hunter 1.
’An Elf would go underground, where a Dwarf dare not?’

5 •Gandalf, Past Death Elven
Companion • Wizard
9 Strength
4 Vitality
5 Resistance
Each time Gandalf is placed in the dead pile, you may discard 4 cards from hand to remove him from the game.
Gandalf is resistance +1 for each culture you can spot.
’White shores... and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.’

2 •Aragorn, Elven-blooded Elven
Companion • Man
6 Strength

3 Strength
4 Vitality
9 Resistance
Each time a minion is assigned to skirmish Pippin, that minion’s owner may exert it. If they do not, you may exert Pippin to draw 3 cards.
’There never was much hope.’

4 •Aragorn, Old Friend Gandalf
Companion • Man
8 Strength
4 Vitality

That better? Smile

On the notes:

Aragorn is after all, a decendant of Elros - Which, thanks to the hobbits (odd story), means he is Elrond’s great (to, I want to say 30-some, times) nephew (and Arwen’s first cousin 30+ times removed). In any case, this mean he does have Elven blood (although it’s a very small amount).
As for his reduced stats, it features his early days in particular, while still in Rivendell. (In a gameplay note, it allows him to be played with Arwen no matter the Ring-bearer)

And Aragorn, Free Defender is more along the line of ’defender of the free peoples’ - he is one of the Free Peoples (or the Free) and a defender. Although, he does basically get a free defender bonus (assuming you use the fellowship).

And, yes, I also liked the ability for Gandalf, Past Death. You kind of forget most everything for the ability to have him (or another) come back quickly. The really nice one is combining him with Saved From the Fire to cycle faster. Once completed, you’ll also be able to have a full Gandalf fellowship (of the original fellowship) that can get boosts.

Isengard companions? Oh, yes. I plan to get a full fellowship of EACH culture, and have decided to include shadow. To be fair, I know a few will be tough, and I don’t currently have Boromir or Gimli.

For, Pippin, Lucky Eye - Wouldn’t the resistance loss end at the end of the skirmish phase with the strength boost? (Note that it’s only going to be useful in regions 2 and 3)

Frodo, Never to Return...
yes, he is extremely odd. I had a negative skirmish ability when he’s the Ring-bearer because he has the option to not be. But it’s a fairly small cost, as it is Frodo, and it should be simple to get him the Ring.
As for the second ability, he realizes at the end that he won’t return. Once he leaves the world, he’s gone for good (and can’t be removed from the dead pile) - of course, I believe there’s a card that would allow you to put a copy into the dead pile from your hand (can’t think of the name), so yes, that would provide a +4 (to +8 ) resistance boost for the Ring-bearer but take up a slot for each +2 bonus.
It’s intended as a help for Sam, as when Frodo dies (or becomes exhausted), he becomes much tougher. (As is Sam, Frodo’s Mount - who greatly lessens the burden on Frodo, and significantly on others, but can’t be Ring-bearer)

And remember, Dark Minions needs some reviews Mr. Green

Finally, 2 Gimlis and a Boromir. I’d like to balance Boromir while keeping his ability, as I like the idea of it...

I also like the combo of the Elven Gimli with the Dwarven Legolas.

Might want to specify whether or not they still have their NORMAL effect, too. For example, does Blade of Gondor ONLY give Boromir +2 vitality now, or does it give +2 vitality AND +2 strength?

Love the idea, though. Very Happy
Best regards, Dáin, Vice Aftokrator of the Chosen Ones

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!

Thinking on the Wraith Frodo...

Good catch on Boromir, In Despar, Dain. It is intended to switch the modifiers (remember, also, that wounds are vitality modifiers, so on him they give strength -1). Which means that it’s difficult to kill him, but also for him to win skirmishes once he starts losing.

However, small shame on not catching the problem with Gimli, Dwarf of Lorien. He is a unique Elven companion, so his first line of text would always be in effect. Mr. Green

I liked Gondor Sam, just because he’s much better played during the game, as opposed to the other Sams which are almost all better in the starting fellowship.

3 Strength
4 Vitality
9 Resistance
At the start of each turn, you may heal a non-Moria companion. If you do, each Shadow player may draw a cards.
Skirmish: If Pippin is not assigned to a skirmish, discard Pippin to take a Moria card from your discard pile into hand (or 2 Moria cards if you can spot 3 other Moria characters).
