Wow. Awesome card. His ability to snatch a possession from anyone is pretty sweet. Win a skirmish with someone, then transfer it to Gamling. Double effect for all the possessions. Great card in the early game. No spotting requirements, easy to fit in the starting fellowship, what’s not to love?
However, previous versions of Gamling are also very good. This card may easily be stuck in a binder due to the better power of other Gamling’s.
Ah yes. Valiant. For old times sake.
That being said, a 4. |

What if the hokey pokey really IS what its all about?
As I lay in bed staring at the stars last night, I thought to myself, "where the heck is the ceiling?"

Nice, but other Gamlings beat it up bad.
I would have loved this text on a non-unique companion.

I’m with the majority. Very good, but so are other Gamlings, which is about the only thing that holds this back from getting a 5; it gets a 4 instead. |
Best regards, Dáin, Vice Aftokrator of the Chosen Ones
Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |

In the Fellowship phase, tranfer Gamling’s Horn to Merry.
Skirmish: Use the ability to boost Merry.
Tranfer the Horn to Gamling.
Skirmish: Use the Horn to boost Gamling and someone else.
That’s three strength +4 boosts from two Followers (and Elendil’s Army costs ) every turn... |

Hehe... the picture is funny. Who is Gamling looking at? Eowyn?
The text is really cool, but I would really rather use one of the other three Gamlings instead.

The pic is from the Extended Return of the King. Right after Eowyn gives Merry his sword, Eomer and Gamling are sitting outside the tent and Eomer makes a joke about the reach of Merry’s arm. |

Think of this:
Another guy is about to bite it. Instead of losing his possessions, Gamling can steal ’em.

Wow, lots of spoilers today!
I agree that previous versions may be better, but Gamling, Dutiful Marshal is still a very cool card. Expanding on menace64’s idea, this could be a great backup companion for the late game -- if someone’s about to die, Gamling will come fully loaded. (And if everyone’s in good shape, well, no complaints there. )
4 from me as well. |
