Frankly, I’m pretty surprised that this hasn’t been DC-ed to death already.
I want to create a whole playable twilight sub-culture. Here’s my first pass.
Into Shadow
Condition
Strength -1
Twilight. To play, exert a twilight minion or discard 2 twilight cards from hand. Bearer must be a companion. Limit 1 per bearer.
While a twilight minion is assigned to a skirmish, bearer is resistance -1.
"Then Frodo felt himself falling, and the roaring and confusion seemed to rise and engulf him together with his enemies."
Just a quick note on that card. A twilight condition borne by a companion makes that companion a ’twilight companion’, but doesn’t add to the number of twilight cards you can spot (so it still only counts as 1 twilight card).
The Devouring Darkness
Event • Skirmish
Make a twilight minion strength +1 for each other twilight card you spot (limit +5).
"...three or four tall black figures were standing there on the slope, looking down on them. So black were they that they seemed like black holes in the deep shade behind them."
•Ulaire Attea, Slave of Shadow
Minion • Nazgul
Strength-12
Vitality-3
Roaming-3
Twilight.
For every 2 twilight cards you spot, Ulaire Attea’s twilight cost is -1.
While skirmishing a twilight companion, Ulaire Attea is strength +3.
"...dim and dark, the shapes became terribly clear. He was able to see beneath their black wrappings."
•Ulaire Cantea, Shrouded in Shade
Minion • Nazgul
Strength-10
Vitality-3
Roaming-3
Twilight.
While you can spot 3 other twilight cards, Ulaire Cantea may not take wounds.
Skirmish: If skirmishing a twilight companion, exert Ulaire Cantea to discard a possession borne by that companion.
"...but something seemed to be compelling him to disregard all warnings, and he longed to yield."
•The Witch-king, Most Perilous of Phantoms
Minion • Nazgul
Strength-14
Vitality-4
Roaming-3
Fierce. Twilight.
Each twilight minion is strength +1.
Each twilight companion is resistance -2.
"Terror overcame Pippin and Merry, and they threw themselves flat on the ground. Sam shrank to Frodo’s side. Frodo was hardly less terrified than his companions; he was quaking as if he was bitter cold, but his terror was swallowed up in a sudden temptation to put on the Ring."
And a few more...
Dead Lights
Minion • Wraith
Strength-6
Vitality-3
Roaming-4
Enduring. Twilight.
Each time you play a twilight card, you may exert this minion to take a twilight card into hand from your discard pile.
“‘Yes, they are all around us,’ he whispered. ‘The tricksy lights. Candles of corpses, yes, yes. Don’t you heed them! Don’t look!’”
Torches of Shadow
Minion • Wraith
Strength-2
Vitality-4
Roaming-4
Enduring. Twilight. To play, spot a twilight card.
The twilight cost of each twilight card is -1.
Regroup: Exert this minion to return another twilight minion to your hand.
“Suddenly he stumbled against Frodo, who was standing lost in thought, looking at the pale lights. His hands hung stiff at his sides; water and slime were dripping from them.” |
Riddle 9
When I came to Abraham I let him live just a moment longer. When I came to Moses I saved his life more than once. But the salmon... I regret to say I had a hand in its death.
Who am I? |

I love twilight minions!

This seems to me a little silly, I’m afraid. Why don’t you just say on Into Shadow ’Bearer gains ’Twilight’?
Love Attea. Cantea’s subtitle should be Shrouded in Shadow (I just think it sounds better) but cool nonetheless (with its oldschool nazgul possession discard).
Should the Witch-King say ’OTHER twilight minion?’ Nice though.
Dead Lights has an unbelievably rocking ability for an Enduring guy with 3 vitality! I’d probably take its vitality down 1.
Torches of Shadow looks maybe overpowered. Should cost at least and/or have ’To play, spot a twilight MINION’.
Good stuff.

Agreed. There’s entirely too few twilight minions.

Personally, I think it should add to the number of twilight cards you can spot, or say simply "bearer gains twilight". But I like the idea a lot.

Brilliantly simple and evil.

Perhaps limit that ability a bit, even if it’s just once per phase.

I think it needs to cost , especially since it reduces twilight cards’ cost (including itself).
I like these cards! |

I was under the impression that it didn’t include itself. Dain Ironfoot, King Under the Mountain certainly doesn’t.

Ah. You may be right, but I had thought it was good practice, at least, to say "other" in there to avoid confusion. Like: "the twilight cost of each other Dwarf is -1".
But it may not be necessary, I guess. |

I’d forgotten Dain said other Dwarves. Nevertheless, Encirclement certainly doesn’t apply to itself.

*shrug* Like I said, it may not be necessary...kind of a fuzzy area. But I think it would be good to clarify and avoid that fuzziness. |
