Hey, I’m noticing some combos (with AC’s article) - and found almost a complete one. But it’s missing a piece that I can’t find.
Is there a way to discard Smeagol in the fellowship phase (besides events)?
I’m sure it’s been seen before, but I haven’t and Erkenbrand’s Horn makes it too good... |

Well... we start with AC’s combo: (Note: I play casual with mostly movie block cards)
Start:
Frodo, Master of the Precious
Smeagol, Slinker
Sam, Son of Hamfast
Gamling, Defender of the Hornburg
If you feel confident your opponent won’t, bid 8 (not 9, as Smeagol’ll add another burden, if I remember right). Go first to get Dammed Gate-stream as site 1.
Do the Something Slimy to play New Chapter as AC pointed out (playing any New Chapters in hand - it gets fun with 2 or more...) - Sam and Frodo allow it.
Add to play Erkenbrand’s Horn from your deck if it’s not in hand.
If you can get 2 New Chapters out, each time you exert Erkenbrand and play a follower, you heal him once and Sam twice - Basically removing 2 burdens to play a follower from your deck.
If you can pull off 3 New Chapters, remove 3 burdens to play a follower from your deck.
Okay, I think there was something else in it last night, but I’m drawing a blank now...
But an ideal card would be something that can get a follower into your deck from play and discards Smeagol... As long as you have a single New Chapter in your hand, you get an infinite loop - more and you get free healing, burden removal.
Also, if you can get a combo that pulls it off, that would be useful, too.
EDIT: Okay, you do add twilight, true, but you can combime with AC’s follower deck to clear it out. |

Okay, I’m not quite sure why I need to get Smeagol played again and again, that might be the missing card that I forgot...
Assuming you have 1 New Chapter in hand:
Start with the 4 companions I listed, bid 8, start Dammed Gate-stream and add a burden for Smeagol.
Start of the fellowship phase actions:
Dammed Gate-stream: Play Something Slimy to play New Chapter from your deck.
Gamling, Defender of the Hornburg: Add to play Erkenbrand’s Horn from your deck.
Fellowship:
Exert Sam x3 to remove 3 burdens (6 burdens remain)
Play New Chapter from hand (any copies in hand, but we assume only 1)
Exert Erkenbrand to play a follower.
2x New Chapter trigger - Heal Erkenbrand once (fully healed) and Sam twice (1 wound)
Exert Sam to remove a burden (5 burdens)
...
If we can discard Smeagol to get a follower from play to your deck (whether directly, through your discard pile or through your hand) -
Do so.
Add a burden to play Smeagol using Frodo’s text, and add another burden.
Exert Sam twice to remove those 2 burdens.
Exert Gamling to play the same follower to heal him once and Sam twice.
It gets better with more New Chapter, as you get another wound healed each time. |

Ok yup i got the idea but why do you want to add the burdens with smeagol just so sam can remove them? The loops would only be infinite if there was a way like you say of getting a follower back inot your deck which i dont think there is. Otherwise the loops last for as long as there are followers in your deck. The smeagol discard is unecessary isnt it? Or am i being a bit thick? |
