Just wondering what people thought about the hunter mechanic. I don’t use any of the new minion cultures and I was just wondering what some people thought about Hunter. It seems a bit overpowered to me.
Cards like Gimli, where he is a hunter 3 don’t seem bad because he doesn’t do anything else but an Aragorn who is a basically 10 and has game text for 4 twilight seems a bit much. |

It’s an interesting--if not very creative--mechanic. I don’t have a strong preference either way about it: I don’t really like it OR dislike it, I’m just kind of "meh" about it. It fits pretty well for some characters, and seems pretty balanced in most cases. But with some who have nice abilities AND some decent hunter numbers, like Aragorn, Thorongil, Eomer, Horsemaster, and Ugluk, Ugly Fellow, it DOES seem a bit overpowered.
So, overall, I think it’s fine. But like any game mechanic, it can (and has) gone overboard at times. I think Big D’s done okay with it for the most part, though.
As for older Shadow cultures, as a DC maker, I’ve recognized how hunter can fit in pretty well with some of the pre-Shadows cultures, like , , and . |

I think it’s overpowered when it’s used on companions. I thought it would be great, but then I changed my mind when I seen Aragorn, Thorongil constantly beating my generic minions with his BASE 10 strength and exerting all my minions of strength 9 or less (if he had a sword) with his maneuver ability. |
In his eyes was the look of a hunted beast seeking some gap in the ring of his enemies. |

I was rather disappointed with the hunter keyword. It’s completely uninteresting and lacks any of the creativity seen in the other mechanics of the block (threats and site control, though I must admit I don’t think much of site control either, and both of them are reused). Compared to the amount of creativity seen in war of the ring block with muster, lurker and toil coming into use, hunters has nothing.
They have learnt one thing, however, that keywords are often more interesting if they have a number attached. How cool would it have been to see minions with 2 vitality but Enduring 7!

I dunno about its usefulness, but it makes you consider it when making decks. Its pretty harsh running up againt a hunters deck when your using old cultures or completely non hunter counter. So makes your deck building a bit more tactical i think. You really dont wanna keep facing Ugluk or like someone said thorongil without any hunters in your deck. |
