Hiya,
I’m both a Star Trek and a Lord of the Rings player, and I thought it’d be nice to make some LotR-cards that are based on mechanics already existing in Star Trek CCG. Anyway, here are some cards that I adapted. Comments/suggestions are very welcome, and if you have your own ideas, that’d be interesting to see as well.
I’ll start with some culture cards.
Star Trek card: Mutual Advantage
LotR card:
Mutual Advantage (FP)
Event • Fellowship
To play, spot Smeagol.
Each player discards a card from hand to draw a card. Then you may draw a card.
"Master looks after us now. We don’t need you anymore."
Star Trek card: Dukat, Pahwraith’s Puppet
LotR card:
•Smeagol, Puppet of the Ring (FP)
Companion
Strength: 3
Vitality: 4
Resistance: 5
To play, add a burden.
Each time the fellowship moves you may look through a player’s discard pile and remove a Free Peoples card revealed from the game.
While you have no Free Peoples cards in your discard pile, Smeagol is strength +3 and cannot take wound during skirmishes.
"We wants it, we needs it."
Star Trek card: Getting Under your Skin
LotR card:
•Getting Under your Skin (FP)
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot Smeagol. Each time you play a condition you may reveal the top card of an opponent’s draw deck. If it is a minion, you may choose: heal Smeagol twice, or exert Smeagol to discard a condition. You may do this only once each turn.
"What were you doing?" |

I think he’d be the Smeagol everyone would be using. Perhaps make his first ability only work when moving during the regroup phase.

Maybe add a drawback if you do NOT reveal a minion, but that may not be necessary. Wait and see if someone else says the same before changing it.
Awesome ideas. once I’m able. I look forward to more! |

Thanks for the comments, have a yourself! I made Smeagol a bit weaker, I hope he’s balanced now. I have plenty ideas for other ST-cards with cool mechanics, but then not for but other cultures, but I’ll first wait for some more comments on this lot. |

Really nice idea, WeyounsLastClone. I once played a game of star trek, though I can’t remember much of it. Nevertheless, even in their own LOTR terms these cards are fantastic.
You seem to have a thing about designing cards - I still like Provoked. And there’s a new challenge, just for you (and anyone else who wants to participate, obviously).

Thanks for the reviews guys. coming your way.
Here are some cards that are based on Star Trek cards.
Star Trek card: James T. Kirk, Highly-Decorated Captain
LotR card:
•Gandalf, Decorated Wizard
Companion • Wizard
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
When you play Gandalf, you may add to take two cards from your draw deck into hand. Those cards must be Spell, Follower, or Artifact cards. Shuffle your draw deck.
"I am Gandalf the White. And I come back to you now - at the turn of the tide."
Star Trek card: Dangerous Standoff
LotR card:
•Dangerous Standoff
Condition • Support Area
Each time Gandalf wins a skirmish, you may exert him twice to place a minion involved on this condition.
Minions with the same cardtitle as a card stacked on this condition may not be played.
"Go back to the shadow."
Star Trek card: Destined to Be
LotR card:
Destined to Be
Event • Fellowship
To play, you must command a Wizard. Discard a card from hand to take a card from your discard pile into hand. Your opponent may take a minion from his or her discard pile into hand. If he does, you may take this event into hand.
"The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass... And then you see it." |

For Gandalf, Decorated Wizard, I’d make it "When you play Gandalf, you may add to take two cards from your draw deck into hand. Those cards must be a Spell, Follower, Possession, or Artifact cards. Shuffle your draw deck."
Dangerous Standoff and Destined to Be look good.
GP for some cool cards. |

Out of curiosity, what’s he decorated with? Tinsel? Your wording is a bit off for LOTR, but I understand what you mean (I think). It should say something like (though I struggled, it’s not a normal ability for this game): ’add to take into hand 2 (i would also add here, ’Free Peoples’) cards from your draw deck (only spells, followers and artifacts),’ and the shuffling is a technical given.
Star Trek card: Dangerous Standoff
LotR card:
 •Dangerous Standoff
Condition • Support Area
Each time Gandalf wins a skirmish, you may exert him twice to place a minion involved on this condition.
Minions with the same cardtitle as a card stacked on this condition may not be played.
"Go back to the shadow."
Again, wording is a bit iffy. ’Each time Gandalf wins a skirmish against a minion, you may exert him twice to stack that minion on this condition. Copies of minions stacked here may not be played.’ Or something like that. Though this could be seriously nasty for minions that are easy to beat, but central to a strategy (like goblin runner!).
And then you see it."
Wording. You don’t ’command’ anybody in LOTR, it’s a free-thinking democracy. ’Spot a wizard and discard a card from hand to...’
Great cards!

Darn, I really should get rid of my Star Trek-wording style. Thanks for the comments though! |

Here are some cards:
Star Trek card: Learning Curve
LotR card:
•Learning Curve
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot 2 unbound Hobbits.
At the end of each of your turns, if you played two cards during that turn, you may stack the top 2 cards of your draw deck here.
At the start of each phase, you may exert your Hobbit to take a card on this condition into hand.
When there are 4 cards on this condition, discard this condition.
"What?"
Star Trek card: Charles Tucker III, Standing In
LotR card:
•Pippin, Diversion
Strength: 3
Vitality: 4
Resistance: 9
To play, spot Frodo. Each time the fellowship moves, if the first site of the current region is a Dwelling, you may remove and draw a card.
Fellowship: Discard your Follower to make a site on the site path a Dwelling until the end of the turn.
"He told Sauron nothing of Frodo and the Ring."
Star Trek card: Final Adventure
LotR card:
Final Adventure
Event • Regroup
Discard a number of cards from hand to make your opponent discard one of his or her cards with twilight cost equal to the number of cards discarded. You may exert Frodo or Sam to take this card in hand again.
"Then let us be rid of it... once and for all.." |
