I was wondering what new cycle could be done for minions (since Decipher apparently has run out of interesting ideas), and here’s the very first thing that came to mind:

Minions that are so devout to fighting that they don’t have an option!

Example:

3 Enthralled Southron Men
Minion • Man
Strength-9
Vitality-2
Roaming-4
At the start of the assignment phase, exert this minion to make him strength +2 until the regroup phase.

He’s got a better cost-to-stats ratio than most, but if he’s got the vitality, he *has to* exert for the bonus.

I must keep going!

1 Enthralled Scrabbler Orc
Minion • Orc
Strength-5
Vitality-1
Roaming-4
Each time this minion is assigned to skirmish an unbound companion, discard 2 Orc minions from hand to make it strength +5 and damage +1 until the end of the skirmish.

5 Enthralled Interloper Uruk-hai
Minion • Uruk-hai
Strength-10
Vitality-3
Roaming-4
Damage +1.
Each time this minion wins a skirmish, liberate a site you control to play an Uruk-hai Uruk-hai from your discard pile; that Uruk-hai is fierce until the regroup phase.

6 •Ulaire Toldea, Enthralling Wraith Wraith
Minion • Nazgul
Strength-12
Vitality-3
Roaming-3
Fierce.
Each other minion is strength +1, and each time another minion wins a skirmish, exert 2 minions to draw a card.

The problem is not wholly with Decipher, but also to the game itself. It doesn’t lend itself well to cycles like other games do (like Magic).

Interesting. Not sure if it would be better as a bigger minion to make sure you have the minions in hand.

Funny, but possibly too good an ability - there’s not much disadvantage to liberating your own sites, otherwise why do you control them in the first place.

Minion • Nazgul
Strength-12
Vitality-3
Roaming-3
Fierce.
Each other minion is strength +1, and each time another minion wins a skirmish, exert 2 minions to draw a card.

Make it Wraith minion for the first bit, and this is no penalty whatsoever in enduring nazgul decks!

I like the overall idea, and while I think these cards are pretty good, I have the same concerns Thranduil and SoP have about some of the specific ones. So just read their reviews twice and pretend I wrote them the second time. Razz

The problem with this is that if you have the minions, you have to discard them, right? That’s your intention? But how does your opponent know that you have them there to know to enforce that you have to discard them? Practically, this is open to cheating. I prefer your first example, where everyone knows whether you can do it or not.

I’m not sure on this one, just because I’m not sure I would ever play it in a site control deck, as the fear of losing an early site would be too much. I prefer the exertion trigger, and would like to see it explored for more of the cultures.

He could do with Lurker instead of Fierce, methinks. Perhaps that would be too much, though. Still, the idea is very cool. Would love to play it with some of the Enduring Nazgul or Wraiths.
