Okay, guys. We’re worked through EVERY culture in my first full DC set(s), Lasting Alliances, which has become SO massive (currently 569 cards!) that I’m splitting it into two--perhaps even three--sets when I’m finished. So with all the cultures and sites posted, why am I not declaring "I’m finished!" yet?
That’s where you come in.
I want my sets to be as "complete" as possible. That means that I want each culture to have its strategies fleshed out, and not have any cards that seem to just be dangling on their own and out of place.
So, I’m going to ask anyone who’s willing a very big favor: review the full cardlists, look for gaps or holes or any other potential issues you see, and let me know. I’ll make more cards to fill in holes, tweak cards that don’t seem to fit, and address any other things you think might need it. I’m asking this for a couple reasons: 1.) this set was put together during various designing spurts over the last 2+ years, 2.) sometimes you just need a fresh perspective on things, but mostly 3.) since I’ve never actually played LOTR TCG, there are things I have certainly missed that regular players would pick up on.
I know this is a huge undertaking, so s are in store for anyone who offers some advice that leads to improvements. I’d offer cards if I had any, but....
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps, and then the most massive DC set EVER will at last be complete! |

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |

All right, here’s something. You need to tie together the Elrond signet. Only six companions have the Elrond signet, and that’s not enough. And there aren’t that many cards that use the Elrond signet. The only card I saw that I would really even consider using the Elrond signet for is Master of the House. And you need more than that. Look at Gandalf, how much stuff he has. Down from the Hills, Trust Me as you Once Did and Let us Not Tarry in particular... |

What if the hokey pokey really IS what its all about?

Understood, but keep this in mind: the Elrond signet REALLY comes into its own in the next set, The Road Ahead. It’s more of a teaser in Lasting Alliances.
That all being said, what do you think might help out a little more in THIS set?
I’ll post the basic strategies of each culture, either in this thread or in the cardlist, sometime soon.
EDIT: Okay, I’m in the process of putting a description of each culture WITH each culture in the cardlists. I;ve done Dale ( Men), , and so far, but I’m not necessarily going in order. I’ll update this every time I finish a couple cultures.
EDIT 2: (Free Peoples) and added. Maybe I WILL go in order after all...I have so far. |

Let’s see here...
The One Ring, Magic Ring (minor issue) - I’d suggest switching abilities similar to Birthday-Present. (Timing ability on bottom)
Bombur, Exceptionally Fat (clarification) - I’d put "no more than" before "two wounds each skirmish phase." Possibly also add "during" between both wounds and each.
I’d probably switch conditions for the regroup healing ability - "While the fellowship is at a sanctuary, at the start of each regroup phase you may heal a Dwarf."
Cup of Thror (major issue) - The ability has no phase... When is it to be used?
Dwalin, Generous Dwarf (question) - When is the ability useful during fellowship? Or is it intended to replace the normal twilight cost?
Other cultures later |
Our time here is ending...
What did you want to see before the end?
It will be made in the Request-a-card Set #1 (name ideas also welcome ). |

Thanks, BW! I made all your recommended changes and fixes. Just what I was hoping for.
I’m ALSO looking for any cards you all would recommend to fill in gaps in strategies, but I’m sure that will take significantly longer. |

There are plenty of tales, in this set and in following ones. I think each set after this (with the possible exception of one) will have AT LEAST one tale, if not more. The Road Ahead alone will have at least 3, I think.
Any other comments? Well, I have a question: should I make another Gandalf? I wanted to keep the number of versions for each of the "main" companions (basically everyone in the original fellowship except Boromir) the same, but if I add another Gandalf, he’ll likely have at least one more version that the others. Is that okay, do you think? Should I do a second Gandalf in the set? |

Okay, before I go to bed, here’s a fun Gandalf I whipped up as a second version for the set. Let me know what you think!
•Gandalf, Friend and Counsellor
Companion • Wizard
Strength: 7
Vitality: 4
Signet: Gandalf
Fellowship: Play a Hobbit and add to heal Gandalf.
Skirmish: Exert Gandalf and spot a Dwarf to make Gandalf damage +1.
Response: If a Man or Elf (except the Ring-bearer) is about to take a wound, exert Gandalf to prevent that wound.
“Tales and adventures sprouted up all over the place wherever he went, in the most extraordinary fashion.”
I also strongly considered Grey Wanderer as the subtitle, so if you review, could I kindly ask you to vote for your favorite subtitle, too? Thanks! |
