| --- description --- A Tribute article with the coming of Ages End at hand, it talks about the 5 best decks from each of the movie blocks, and gives a match–up section between all 5.
 --- end description ---

This friends, comrades, and all others, is where I have put together the 5 best decks from each of the movie blocks, and given decklists, strategies, and have done a Match-up section that includes all 5 of them. So Begin!

 THE FELLOWSHIP BLOCK

 NUMBER 5 - Hobbit Hospital/Choke (Free Peoples)

 Decklist - 40

 Frodo, Old Bilbo’s Heir
 The One Ring, Isildur’s Bane

 Companions - 3
Merry, From O’er The Brandywine (starting)
Pippin, Hobbit of Some Intelligence (starting)
 Sam, Son of Hamfast (starting)

 Allies - 12
 The Gaffer, Sam’s Father x1
Farmer Maggot, Chaser of Rascals x1
 Rosie Cotton, Hobbiton Lass x1
 Hobbit Party Guest x4
 Hobbit Farmer x2
 Bounder x2
 Filibert Bolger, Wily Rascal x1

 Possessions/Artifacts - 7
 Hobbit Sword x2
 Sting x1
 Frying Pan x1
 Mithril-coat x1
 Thror’s Map x1
 Bill the Pony x1

 Events - 9
 Hobbit Stealth x3
 Hobbit Intuition x4
Power According to His Stature x2

 Conditions - 9
 O Elbereth! Gilthoniel! x1
 There and Back Again x2
A Talent for Not Being Seen x2
 A Promise x4

At 40 cards this is a pretty hefty free people’s half and paired best with a massive cycling deck such as Moria with They Are Coming. This deck doesn’t work as well in a non-Fellowship Block environment due to the fact that you don’t get to use the Fellowship block sites. The key is to go second to allow yourself time to set up your fellowship and get your Buckleberry Ferry out there to prevent skirmishes. Once you got your Hobbit Farmer, replacing the site 1 with your Green Hill Country allowed all of your hobbit allies to come out for free which meant massive twilight choke. Coupled with Bill the Pony and A Talent for Not Being Seen, at site 8 and 9 you can give out a maximum of 10 (9 for the site - 2 for Talent -1 for Bill, +4 for your companions) twilight, which, unless you are playing against moria is only enough for an average of three minions!

NUMBER 4 - Last Alliance (Free Peoples)

 Decklist - 35

 Frodo, Old Bilbo’s Heir
 The One Ring, Isildur’s Bane

 Companions - 7
 Arwen, Daughter of Elrond (starting)
 Legolas, Greenleaf (starting)
 Aragorn, King in Exile x3
 Boromir, Lord of Gondor x3

 Allies - 6
 Galadriel, Lady of Light x2
 Orophin, Lorien Bowman x2
 Rumil, Elven Protector x2

 Possessions - 10
 Aragorn’s Bow
 Elven Bow x2
 Gwemegil
 Long-knives of Legolas
 Ranger’s Sword
 Blade of Gondor
 Flaming Brand
 Sting x2

 Events - 2
Power According to His Stature x2

 Conditions - 9
 Gondor Bowmen x4
 Secret Sentinels x2
The Last Alliance of Elves and Men x3

The elves shoot everything with the bows, Gondor Bowman, Orophin, and Rumil, Except Nazgul, but Flaming Brand and Arwen can take care of that. Anyway, basically, shoot everything you can, kill everything you can, beat the rest up in the skirmish, and if you were to play a moria swarm, either A. they would all die in the archery phase, or B. PATHS would kill them.

NUMBER 3 - Twilight Nazgul (Shadow)

 Decklist - 35

 Minions - 15
The Witch-king, Lord of the Nazgul x3
 Ulaire Attea, The Easterling
 Ulaire Otsea, Ringwraith in Twilight
Ulaire Otsea, Lieutenant of Morgul x2
Ulaire Nelya, Ringwraith in Twilight x2
Ulaire Enquea, Ringwraith in Twilight x2
Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul x2
Bill Ferny, Swarthy Sneering Fellow x2

 Events - 10
 Wraith-world x4
 Resistance Becomes Unbearable x4
 Dark Whispers x2

 Conditions - 10
 His Terrible Servants x2
 Blade Tip x2
Gates of the Dead City x4
It wants to be Found x2

Strategy, wound the ring-bearer as much as possible, and he’ll have to start wearing the One Ring and adding burdens. If not, use Resistance Becomes Unbearable and MAKE him wear the One Ring. Wraith-world gets nasty after that. If that’s not enough, Dark Whispers can kill a companion, and if you pump Ulaire Otsea, your opponent has another burden adding problem to deal with. In the end, it will be simple to corrupt him.

NUMBER 2 - Sauron Corruption (Shadow)

 Decklist - 35

 Minions - 16
 Tower Lieutenant x4
 Morgul Hunter x4
 Band of the Eye x4
 Orc Butcher x4

 Conditions - 19
 The Irresistible Shadow x3
Desperate Defense of the Ring x4
 Desperate Measures x4
 Thin and Stretched x4
 His Cruelty and Malice x4
 Tower of Barad-dur x4

Basically either A. corrupt the Ring-Bearer with regular burden adding i.e. DDotR and TaS, or B. discard corruption with The Irresistible Shadow, your 16 minions Tower of Barad-dur, his cruelty and malice, etc, etc.

NUMBER 1 - Moria Swarm (Shadow)

 Decklist - 40 Cards

 Minions - 25
 Goblin Runner x4
 Goblin Scrabbler x4
 Goblin Sneak x4
 Goblin Flankers x4
 Goblin Scavengers x4
 Ancient Chieftain x3
Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul x2

 Possessions - 4
 Goblin Scimitar x 4

 Conditions - 7
 Goblin Armory x 4
 Relics of Moria
 Goblin Swarms x 2

 Events - 4
 Host of Thousands x 4

 Strategy
One Rule, Abuse Relics of Moria, play the Scimitars over and over and over and, well you get the picture, Host of thousands is great. By the way, Scavengers works when Relics of Moria doesn’t, Goblin Armory and Goblin swarms kill all and Enquea will help on the large fellowships.

 MATCH-UPS
If Number 5 were to face number 3, the winner would be Number 5 because of healing and choke abilities, the Number 3 deck would have a hard time corrupting the Ring-Bearer.

If Number 5 were to face number 2, the winner would be Number 2, although Number 5 can choke, number 2 can effectively do their discard corruption strategy without much trouble.

If Number 5 were to face Number 1, the winner would be Number 1, Number 5’s choking ability would be useless because of Number 1’s minions, plus, Number 5 has only 2 PATHS and then they would die.

If Number 4 were to face Number 3, the winner would be Number 3 because, since most of Number 3’s Ring-Bearer wounding is in the maneuver phase, it doesn’t matter how long they survive after that.

If Number 4 were to face Number 2, the winner would be Number 2 with that small a deck, plus the fact that a lot are possessions and conditions, about one half, it would be easy for the irresistible shadow auto-corrupt to happen.

If Number 4 were to face Number 1, the winner would be Number 4 because you shoot everything up in the archery phase, plus the fact that Number 4 has PATHS, the moria swarm wouldn’t be much use against it.

 THE TWO TOWERS BLOCK

NUMBER 5 - Dunlending Site Control (Shadow)

 Decklist - 33

 Minions -
 Wulf, Dunlending Chieftain x3
 Hillman Tribe x4
 Dunlending Ransacker x3
 Hillman Horde x2
 Saruman, Rabble-rouser x2
 Dunlending Elder x4

 Possessions - 8
 Hides x4
 War Club x4

 Events - 3
 Burn Every Village x3

 Conditions - 4
 Over the Isen x2
 Ready to Fall x2

This deck focuses on site control. There are several cards that can take control of sites: Wulf, Hillman Tribe, and Dunlending Ransacker. All 3 of them trigger off of winning skirmishes. Once you take control of sites, several good things happen. Burn Every Village becomes a 0-cost strength +4 skirmish event. Over the Isen allows you to choose who fights who (as long as there is surplus twilight). Dunlending Elder turns into a cheap yet very powerful minion. Ready to Fall plays back minions from your discard pile, utilizing every bit of twilight available.

NUMBER 4 - Uruk Site Control (Shadow)

 Decklist - 35

 Minions - 22
 Advance Uruk Patrol x2
 Uruk Assault Band x2
 Uruk Regular x3
 Uruk Stormer x3
 Uruk Veteran x4
 Uruk-hai Band x2
 Uruk-hai Marauder x3
 Uruk-hai Patrol x3

 Events - 2
We Are the Fighting Uruk-hai x2

 Condition - 11
Down to the Last Child x2
 Attack on Helm’s Deep x3
 Burning of Westfold x3
 Pillage of Rohan x3

Get sites with Down to the last child and Attack on Helm’s deep, then kill since all of your minions benefit from controlled sites, if playing an Elvents deck or anything that has to do with skirmish events Pillage of Rohan kills, and We Are the Fighting Uruk-hai is just there in case you need it.

NUMBER 3 - Ents. (Free Peoples)

 Decklist - 30

 Frodo, Courteous Halfling
One Ring, Answer to All Riddles

 Companions - 10
 Merry, Learned Guide (starting)
 Pippin, Woolly-Footed Rascal (starting)
 Quickbeam, Bregalad (starting)
 Birchseed, Tall Statesman x2
 Forest Guardian x2
 Ent Horde
 Host of Fangorn x2

 Allies - 1
 Treebeard, Earthborn

 Possessions - 3
 Hobbit Sword x3

 Events - 8
 Long Slow Wrath x4
 Roused x4

 Conditions - 8
 Enraged x4
 Ent Moot x4

Basically, use your ents to beat everyone and everything up, is a nice (I think I’m going to see 4-5 big minions this turn so I’d better boost my companions up) card Long slow wrath kills, so they assign a big minion on merry or pippin hoping to kill and take advantage of say Gollum, Skulker or Ulaire Toldea Winged Sentry, well, drop one of these and add a single exertion to make the hobbit a MONSTER! What a Strength +9 Damage +9 hobbit, you’re kidding! But it’s true!

NUMBER 2 - Fighting Elves (Free Peoples)

 Decklist - 35

 Frodo, Courteous Halfling
The One Ring, Answer to all Riddles

 Companions - 5
 Legolas, Archer of Mirkwood (starting)
 Pengedhel, Naith Warrior (starting)
 Erethon, Naith Lieutenant
 Naith Warband
 Thonnas, Naith Captain

 Possessions - 13
 Legolas’ Sword
 Naith Longbow x 4
 Elven Sword x 4
 Elven Brooch x 2
 Banner of Elbereth
 Hobbit Sword

 Events - 12
 Company of Archers x 4
That Is No Orc Horn x4
 Forearmed x 3
 Supporting Fire x 3

 Conditions - 5
 Strength of Arms
 Blades Drawn x 2
 Agility x 2

Another beat everything up deck, the Naith Longbow’s do double bonus’s! Since most of your companions (everyone but Legolas and Frodo) get a bonus from a ranged weapon, Naith Longbow is perfect, That Is No Orc Horn helps with site control, and Company of Archers helps with Conditions Decks.

NUMBER 1 - The Three Hunters (Free Peoples)

 Decklist - 35

 Frodo, Courteous Halfling
The One Ring, Answer to all Riddles

 Companions - 8
 Gimli, Lockbearer (starting)
 Pippin, Woolly-footed Rascal (starting)
 Merry, Learned Guide (starting)
 Gandalf, Greyhame x2
 Legolas, Dauntless Hunter
 Aragorn, Wingfoot x2

 Possessions - 5
 Axe of Erebor
 Legolas’ Sword
 Glamdring, Lightning Brand
 Gandalf’s Staff, Walking Stick
 Ranger’s Sword, Blade of Aragorn

 Events - 18
 Grown Suddenly Tall x2
 Threw Down My Enemy x4
 Valor x4
 Khazad Ai-menu x4
 Trust x4

 Conditions - 4
 Final Count x2
 My Axe Is Notched x2

Well, this is a 3 hunters deck revolving around the hobbits, most things should be able to be countered, wounding somewhat by Trust, beatdowns with Gimli, Lockbearer, Condition and Possession Based Decks by Legolas, Dauntless Hunter and Grown Suddenly Tall, Uruk-Hai decks with Ranger’s Sword, Blade of Aragorn.

 MATCH-UPS
If Number 5 were to face Number 3, the winner would be Number 3 because, the Dunlandings can’t match the brutal strength of the ents, even with the bonuses from their controlled sites.

If Number 5 were to face Number 2, the winner would be Number 2 simply because that the Dunlandings would find it hard to control sites, then they would lose them to That is No Orc Horn which simply destroys their strategy.

If Number 5 were to face Number 1, the winner would be Number 1 even though Number 5 would be able to control sites, a lot of their cards that bonus off of them would be dead via Grown Suddenly Tall, and it would be a lot harder to play them.

If Number 4 were to face Number 3, the winner would be Number 3 there w is simply almost no possible way for number 3 to overcome the great ents, they are just too strong, plus, a hobbit kill wouldn’t work because of Long Slow Wrath.

If Number 4 were to face Number 2, the winner would be Number 2 as the same case as the Dunlandings, That is No Orc Horn kills the entire strategy, and all those bonuses from possessions will kill the Uruk Site control Deck.

If Number 4 were to face Number 1, the winner would be Number 1 these two decks are near evenly matched, but Number 1 has instant regroup phase wounding with Aragorn, Gimli can make it to a base 13 strength, and Legolas will make it nearly impossible for Number 4 to play conditions, and it’s all because of the hobbits.

well that Closes the Tower Block, Next Up, the
 KING BLOCK

 NUMBER 5 - Besiegers (Shadow)

 Minions - 22
 Gothmog, Lieutenant of Morgul x3
Troll of Gorgoroth, Abomination of Sauron x3
 Gorgoroth Assassin x3
 Gorgoroth Berserker x3
 Gorgoroth Keeper x3
 Great Hill Troll x3
 Siege Troop x4

 Possessions - 2
Grond, Hammer of the Underworld x2

 Conditions - 11
 Encirclement x2
 Tower Walkway x3
 Troop Tower x3
 Great Siege-towers x3

Baisically, once you have some sites controlled, Encirclement, Tower walkway, and Troop tower get Nasty, Grond kills Beatdown or Condition Decks, Gothmag has nice wounding, Troll of Gorgoroth has a good twilight reduction bonus, and all of your other minions get bonuses from controlled sites.

NUMBER 4 - Rohan Beatdown (Free Peoples)

 Decklist - 30

 Companions - 4
 Eowyn, Dernhelm (starting)
 Eomer, Skilled Tactician (starting)
 Theoden, Tall and Proud
 Rohirrim Army

 Possessions - 16
 Long Spear x3
 Eowyn’s Sword, Dernhelm’s Blade
 Swift Steed
 Windfola
 Firefoot, Eomer’s Steed
 Snowmane
 Rohirrim Javelin x4
 Riding Armor x4

 Events - 10
 Fey He Seemed x4
 Morning Came x4
 Knights of his House x2

This Rohirrim deck is a very solid beatdown variant. Get out several big companions loaded up with all their possessions, your opponent will have a hard time winning skirmishes, plus, Fey he seemed and Morning came are great events for harder minions, and knights of his house will help against archery decks and southerns that use after-shadow phase twilight.

 NUMBER 3 - Sauron Uruk-Hai (Shadow)

 Decklist - 30

 Minions - 24
 Advance Captain x3
 Advance Marauder x3
 Advance Regular x3
 Cirith Ungol Patroller x2
 Cirith Ungol Guard x3
 Cirith Ungol Sentinel x4
 Cirith Ungol Sentry x4
Shagrat, Captain of Cirith Ungol x2

 Conditions - 6
 Flames Within x2
 Rank and File x4

Sauron Uruks are a very good strategy. The object is to play a Rank and File, and then load it up with tokens. Once it’s got a bunch of tokens, you can easily make all your minions win their skirmishes, and each Uruk is capable of being damage +2 and fierce.

NUMBER 2 - Noble Leaders (Free Peoples)

 Decklist - 30

 Frodo, Wicked Masster!
The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry

 Companions - 13
 Faramir, Wizard’s Pupil (starting)
Pippin, Wearer of Black and Silver (starting)
 Sam, Needer of Vittles
Gandalf, Defender of the West x4
 Denethor, Wizened Steward x2
 Aragorn, Driven By Need x4

 Possessions - 7
 Glamdring, Elven Blade x2
 Hobbit Sword x2
 Knight’s Spear x3

 Events - 7
 Light the Beacons x3
 Hidden Knowledge x4

 Conditions - 3
 Noble Leaders x2
 Moment of Respite

This deck focuses around Noble Leaders (obviously) and Light the Beacons to get all your Gondor companions to high strength and beat up everything, Sam, Needer of Vittles + Pippin WoBaS is a great burden removal tool. and Moment of Respite is good for all the exertions from Light The Beacons

NUMBER 1 - Elvents (Free Peoples)

 Decklist - 35

 Frodo, Resolute Halfling
The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry

 Companions - 8
 Galadriel, Lady Redeemed (starting)
 Elrond, Venerable Lord (starting)
Celeborn, Lord of the Galadhrim x2
 Cirdan, The Shipwright x2
 Gandalf, Manager of Wizards x2

 Events - 19
 Defiance x4
 Still Needed x4
 Uncertain Paths x4
 Careful Study x3
 Fleet-Footed x4

 Conditions - 8
 Hope Comes x2
 Shadow Between x2
 Glimpse of Fate x2
 Brooding on Tomorrow x2

This deck’s got everything, almost, anyway, you get healing with Shadow Between and Elrond, Conditions Discard with Galadriel and Brooding on Tomorrow, Beatdown kill with the Gandalf Manager of Wizards + Glimpse of Fate, Nazgul Kill with Defiance, and Site control Death with Fleet-Footed.

 MATCH-UP SECTION
If Number 5 were to face Number 4, the winner would be Number 4 because Number 5 will most likely not be able to play enough minions at any time to hurt Number 4’s companions and kill Frodo.

If Number 5 were to face Number 2, the winner would be Number 2 they both relay on brute strength, however, Number 2 is more equipped with Light the Beacons, Noble Leaders, and their possessions.

If Number 5 were to face Number 1, the winner would be Number 1 because Glimpse of Fate will bring down all of their minions, Fleet-Footed will hurt because of their site control strategies, shadow between will kill a Gothmag wounding strategy, and Galadriel downs Grond.

If Number 3 were to face Number 4, the winner would be Number 3 Number 3 will have an easy time pulling a back door with rank and file, Cirith Ungol Sentinal can easily be played for free, Cirith Ungol Patroller can easily become fierce, and all of them can be Damage +2 from Flames Within.

If Number 3 were to face Number 2, the winner would be Number 2 Noble Leaders wouldn’t really help with killing minions, but it would help to prevent from being overwhelmed, so would Light the Beacons, and Moment of Respite helps you get rid of all those wounds.

If Number 3 were to face Number 1, the winner would be Number 1 you can once again easily kill the Uruks with Glimpse of Fate, Gandalf and all your events, Shadow Between once again provides critical healing, and Cirdan can Become a Monster.

 MATCH-UP BETWEEN FELLOWSHIP 1, TOWER 1, AND KING 1
If Fellowship 1 were to face Tower 1, the winner would be Fellowship 1 Fellowship 1 will find it an easy matter to swarm and kill Frodo, since Tower one has zero Ring-Bearer protection.

If Fellowship 1 were to face King 1, the winner would be Fellowship 1 once again, Fellowship one would see it easy to kill the Ring-Bearer with the zero Ring-Bearer protection and the killer wounding with Enquea.

Well, there you have it, a complete posting of the best 5 decks from each of the movie blocks, hope you enjoyed it!

| I pmed you about this, but I’ll post my advice here as well.
 FotR Block

Hobbit Hospital. Emphasize that you can bet a few burdens to get site 1 out for your Hobbit Farmer. Then point out Thror’s Map for site 7, so you don’t run up against Anduins Confluence problems.

Last Alliance. Add 2x Elrond, Herald to Gil-Galad, his healing ability is awesome with Greenleaf, and his auto-heal every turn is also awesome. Cut 2x Aragorn, King in Exile, you pull him with The Prancing Pony.

Twilight Nazzies. It Wants to Be Found is in the wrong section. I would cut the Gates of the Dead City, as nobody’s gonna be stupid enough to exert Frodo, or work in two additional Blade Tips. Add an extra Ulaire Otsea, Ringwraith in Twilight and 2x Nazgul Sword. Mention Eregion Hills.

Sauron Corruption. Add in a FP side. This is extremely important. Cut 2x His Cruelty and Malice, 2x thin and Stretched, and 1 The Irresistible Shadow. Add 4x Orc Inquisitor, and 2x Tower Assassin. (FotR block Sauron with no Tower Assassin?!?!?!)

Moria Swarm- Cut and Enquea and an Ancient Chieftain for 2x Ulaire Nertea, Messenger of Dol Guldur. Cut 2x Goblin Flankers for the Underdeeps of Moria.

I would swap the order around to…

 5. Hobbit Hospital.

 4. Dwarf/Sauron Discarding Corruption.

 3. Twilight Nazgul

 2. Last Alliance

 1. Moria Swarm

 TT Block

Dunlendings- I would run them with Hillman Band and No Retreat. Sweet site control combo. Along with Hillman Rabble, Dunlending Looter, and Dunlending Elder, sweet combo. Dunlending Headman is a good way to control sites, if played right.

 Uruk Site Control- the best
site control is run with swarm. Down to the Last Child, Uruk-Hai Horde, Uruk-Hai Mob, and a bunch of dirt cheap Uruks. Load up Attack on Helm’s Deep and seize control of site after site. Banner of Isengard is awesome as well.
Ents- Why the hobbit swords for people who discard themselves? Nice deck, cut the hobbit swords.

Elves- Nice. Aragorn, Defender of Free Peoples would be a good addition. Drop Blades Drawn for him, and use the Riddermark. If not, consider Fereveldir, Son of Thandroden.

 Three Hunters- No wounding?
QUICK! 4X Baruk Khazad, and 4x Quick as May Be. Behold the White Rider, since you’re running Gandalf, Mithrandir, Mithrandir! and Defend it and Hope. Consider Gimli, Skilled Defender over Lock-bearer.
Ring-Bound Rangers- I know its not in your list, but that’s the point. They should be number one.

 RotK Block

Besiegers- Other than not being number 1, no problem. I think you can use reflections cards in king block, if so, Sauron is nice. If not, someone correct me.

Rohan- Shouldn’t be in here. Rohan wasn’t a viable deck really. To easy to kill. A Saved from the Fire deck should be in this place.

 Sauron Uruk-Hai- More strategy.

Noble Leaders- No Guarded City? This would be a perfect place to use Saved from the Fire with Gandalf, Leader of men, BTW.

 Elvents-
Elvents weren’t viable until the release of EME DDB. I would cut them.
You’re missing Rout wounding and ENDURING NAZGUL CORRUPTION!!!!!!!! *whacks over head* What is King Block without Enduring Nazzies?!?!? Cut Rohan and Elvents for these decks.

Currently, you’re getting a three. Add some more strategy, a synopsis of the block’s play environment, and most popular decks, new mechanics, etc. Currently, your article is a bunch of deck thrown together.

| Fellowship block looks fine. Towers block- this is where I find the most problems with, I dont know what your meta was like but where i was from ents would not make top 5 nor would naith Elves. You are missing Rohan, they were the workhorses of the Towers block (no pun intended), and almost as important you are missing Ring Bound Rangers. Your "The Three Hunters" deck should start Legolas not Gimli.

As for your King Block section i have only one thing to say Corsairs!!!!!!!!!!!

other than that it was an interesting article i had a good time reading it.
