Just wanted to know if I can use Charged Headlong to discard Eowyn’s Sword, Dernhelm’s Blade so I can play it again to wound a minion skirmishing Eowyn. I understand Ulaire Toldea, BS cannot exert to play a Dark Approach that was just played to play him and it would seem like this is a similar mechanic. Any help is appreciated as always. |

It’s a matter of cost and effect. You have to pay the cost on the card in order to get its effect, right? The cost of this card is discarding a possession, so that means in order to get the effect of playing a possession from the discard pile, you have to discard one from play first. I don’t see why the one you just discarded isn’t fair game to be played again. It looks like you found a combo! |

I agree, it is a great combo, thanks for your insight, Foresight. |

Nope - It’s the same deal as They Are Coming. The card you play from the discard pile cannot be the card or one of the cards discarded as the cost of the card you are playing.
Comprehensive Rules 4.0, page 11, entry for ’effect’ wrote: If an action plays a card from your hand (or discard pile) as part of its effect, then that card must be in your hand (or discard pile) before you can begin to perform that action.
The Orc you play with They Are Coming (“Shadow: Discard 3 cards from hand to play a Δ Orc from your discard pile.”) cannot be one of the cards you discarded from your hand to pay the cost of that special ability. |

Just run two of them in your deck that way one is in the discard pile already when you discard the one from play. Maybe this way it can work.

Yes, the "combo" would work if you had the situation the way NK described. You could also just run Eowyn, Restless Maiden and discard her sword using her own gametext, then discard another possession from play to get the sword back and wound the minion she’s skirmishing. |

Yes, that is the combo I’ve been using, but I’d like a definitive answer if I just had one Eowyn’s Sword. I run 2 in my deck, but does one copy run into the same problem as Ulaire Toldea, BS with 1 copy of Dark Approach? That is what I’m trying to get at. I’m pretty it does, but not sure. |

I answered this above when I quoted the Comprehensive Rules 4.0 - If an event allows you to play a card from your hand or discard pile, then that card must be there BEFORE you play the event. |

That’s what I was looking for, thank you. |
