Strategy
Fellowship
Use saved from the fire to pull Treebeard, Ent Draught, and Steadfast. You need to spot 3 gandalf companions to play treebeard, so you might have to saved to get another saved and two companions, then saved for the above cards the following turn. It depends on your draw. Once you have Treebeard with an ent draught and steadfast, you are good to go. Each regroup phase you will fully heal, discard all shadow conditions and minions, and replay all of your gandalf conditions. Doing this will flood the pool, so if you need to run you can use gandalf’s hat to make things easier. Since the shadow is difficult to set up, you will need to play very aggressively to ensure that you will be in a position to win at the end of the game. The biggest problem is keeping burdens off of gandalf, which you can do with watch and wait, glamdring, narya, and keeping two gandalf cards in hand.
Shadow
The shadow is based around one very hard to pull off, but also very cool, combo. First you need to play the Witch King with The Witch King’s Beast, Fell Creature, The Pale Blade, Sword of Flame, and maybe a Ring of Rancor. You also need a combination of 7 copies of Demoralized and Gates of the Dead City in play. At Emyn Muil. Got all that?? Good. First exert the Witch King to make him fierce. During the first skirmish heal him with Not easily destroyed. When he wins, exert him to add a burden. That burden triggers each Gates of the dead city, exerting on companion for each. Each exertion then triggers demoralized, adding twilight. You need to produce 9 twilight per skirmish to keep the loop going because you will need to heal him 3 times each skirmish. Do the same in the fierce skirmish. After the skirmish resolves, exert the WK twice to have him participate in another skirmish. Heal him again with Not Easily Destroyed, exert him to add a burden when he wins. Continue this procedure until you have killed every companion on the board.
The ring of rancor is important in case they have a way to wound him. It protects you a bit more. Smeagol still rocks his world, but there isn’t much we can do about that except add buckland homestead or Minas Morgul Answers. Been working on that, but I haven’t got it done yet.
I know that Shadow combo is ridiculous to pull off, but the fellowship is strong enough to run and put pressure on the opponent. As long as you protect Gandalf from burdening you should be able to win. It isn’t really a deck to play if in a tournament, but it is great for casual play. |
